Foreign fighters leave Ukraine due to witnessing atrocities

As NATO leaders father for a summit in Lithuania the war in Ukraine shows no sign of abating.
Thousands of foreign nationals have travelled to Ukraine to support the counter offensive against Russia - some are leaving after it became too much.

This is what Col MacGregor was saying. NATO forces haven't faced a conventional war in years. Their tactics and strategy is based on what they faced in middle east. Thing is Russians can escalate a whole front line. Bomb your camps, send cruise missile onto your air craft carrier, saturate your air defenses with drone, emply electronic counter measures against you, while at the same time operating 150 batallions at the same time, coordinating and moving. America has not faced such kind of Warfare since world war 2. And Russia unlike others can actually replenish it's lost equipment pretty quickly. These fighters had the comfort of being NATO troops in Afghanistan, where you had bottled water air dropped for you every hour. Here you don't get any of that 'luxury'.

The atrocity they are referring to is the fact that both sides are murdering each other and leaving the dead on the battlefield . You have to remember the vast majority of those who volunteered to help the Ukrainians fight this war are not prior service or ex military . They are mostly civilians . Who have never seen what war really is before this experience. So to their minds it's an atrocity. To a more harden soldier who has seen previous wars it's just another thing that happens. Because those who have seen wars are use to the fighting and seeing the results of fighting. And are capable of justifying the situation. Civilian volunteers with no military experience are not use to the sights , sounds and smalls of warfare. It's really that simple. And trench warfare is especially brutal because much of it is done within close quarters. What has been going on in Ukraine has been trench warfare which is exactly what WW1 was only this time with more advanced weapons being used .

As a American combat Vet (US Army 505th PIR 82nd Airborne Division), what the hell did these Brit Volunteers think war was about? I don't get their point. Yes, you will see lots of dead and mangled bodies. That's what happens in real War. You guys claim to have combat backgrounds, but I doubt it. During my years in Service I worked with the British SAS, as well as the Brit SBS, during NATO exercises. The Brits are Top Tier warriors. I totally admire them. But, this lot seems strangely very unfamilier with War in every way. Damn, they couldn't even recognize an Enemy Tank! There's something very wrong with this entire story.

Weird how Donbas and Luhansk were fine for decades until 2014...then Russia annexes Crimea, creates and funds the LPR and DNR and suddenly Ukraine decides to 'shell civilians'. Why shell them? They had 23 years to just go and shoot them or kick them off the territory. Also strange how the civilians didn't just cross the border in to Russia for safety in that 8 years... Until 2022, when droves of civilians tried to escape over the border, only to be turned back at the border crossing. Anyone that has been following this conflict since day 1 knows this. It's kind of amazing to me that non-russians are actually falling for this Kremlin propaganda. A lot of Russians don't even believe this bs.

Last year we were casually sitting together in his party room down in his basement when one of his nephews kicked a football against the garage door, causing a loud bang. His immediate response was to get off the bench on one knee and look at the tiny windows visibly stressed. It was just for a second or two until he realised that there was no danger and sat back down again, but you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to know where this response came from. The rest of us played it cool and behaved like we didn't notice anything strange in his behavior, but man, it was heartbreaking to see how mentally wounded this guy still is even 30 years after his trip, I tell you.

At the beginning of the war, at first, there was confusion in the actions of the Russian troops without a clear understanding of where the front line was, the battles were conducted mainly using ambushes and guerrilla warfare by Ukrainian troops. But later, the Russian troops had a much clearer idea of what was actually happening at the front, and now, accordingly, the Russians are much more effective in organizing their defensive and offensive actions, and, of course, Moscow has a more or less clear overall picture of what is happening in Ukraine.

Wagner is just as you have described "mindless mercenaries" and they had plenty of success against the Ukranian forces. Plenty of the Wagner forces are directly recruited from prisons and fighting for little more than a chance to eventually be freed from incarceration. They ( Wagner) will have little understanding of the war and are not particularly invested in it either.... so id say your comment is very flawed.

All the scum of the world ran to Ukraine, the Russians kicked their asses and they ran home crying. It's not the movies, it's not Hollywood, and the Russians have never lost on their own soil. "He who comes to us with a sword, by the sword shall he perish." This is what our Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky said. Remember his words, stay home and watch Hollywood action movies. And the fault of these airsoft players that go out and get a cool tattoo and think they will be the difference until they get a taste of real battle!
