Daytona never had track lighting in 1966.... and it is Fontana because of where the sun is located... .at Dayton the sun sets to the west behind turns one and two... at Fontana it sets to the west behind the main grandstand... as it does here in the movie...
Gotta love how when he crosses the line everyone in his pit goes mental but Shelby remains stoic because he knew it was going to happen.

@bansheeflier1015
2 жыл бұрын
One thing about this movie (though, it has been a while since I watched it) is even though it does have gratuitous shifter cam, the gear changes make a bit of sense. Down shifting when going into the tight, twisty bits. Up shifting when hammering down a wide banked turn.
@voicesofmarshians528

As someone who drives a stick shift, when you’re going into tight turns, it’s always better to downshift. You have more control that way.
@eddieyakin5528

@@voicesofmarshians528 Lol there’s nothing relating to control. If anything downshifting makes the car more unstable because you shift weight to the front, it only benefits corner exit torque. He’s talking about the first part of this video when he’s told to go like hell and he downshifts.

Excellent job from Christian. You can feel how excited Ken is behind the seemingly calm “alright”. For Ken, racing is not about proofing he’s the fastest driver, he just want to show how fast the car he built can be.
I love how he miracously finds another gear during that final overtake. "Oh heck there's another one, could've done this sooner"

It's because you have full control of the engine's power. An automatic just leaves you only the gas pedal to control the power. A manual transmission on the other hand, you are telling the engine exactly how much power you want and turning its small amount of rotation into a shitload of speed. Plus you have to get each shift right to get the most out of it.

@@TorutheRedFox That might have been true at some point, but I've never heard of that happening these days. Otherwise you'd see teams remove it at the end of the race to increase lap times, which you don't see in sportscar racing.

LOVE that this was shot in Fontana, CA at AutoClub Speedway! They didn't even TRY to make it look like Daytona! Love it!
The pedals sound like controls from a F14 in top gun and I love how precise and impactful all of the actors inputs in the car feel.

@@tm5123 it's a pity you never bothered to do any research and see that GT-40s had both 4 and 5 speed gear boxes, with a different final drive to see which held up better. That's besides the fact that Holman Moodys team was specifically told not to exceed 6000 rpms, no matter what gear, while Shelby American permitted a 7000 rpm limit. That alone would make a significant speed difference.
@tm5123

Yeah, its odd they didnt emphasize the rpm difference, but threw that extra gear in there instead. Do you know for a fact these two racecars had different gearboxes. I dont really have enough intrest in this tho, to really care.. perhaps this scene is peak accuracy, but looks quite fake.@@johnhgt40

Thank God I didn't missed the opportunity of watching this on big screen it was a quite an experience I get goosebumps everytime I watch this scene what a masterpiece the music and the whole film in general it's the pinnacle of movie making.hands down the best car movie.
this movie is not about cars , fast laps , races - it is a story of friendship and what friendships can accomplish!!

Whoever put the music with this scene did an amazing job listening to this while driving makes you want to go fast. For me outside of driving this gives me focus and drive when competing.
The best flex on your opponent...just imagine....coming out of nowhere behind them...intimidating them...then being faster than them only to show that its not even your final gear....the music, the shifts, the car, the scene....its a work of art really.
My GF : "I'm alone. My parents isn't home yet." Me : 0:14
My favorite scene hands down. Though the character of Leo Beebe was exaggerated to be more of an asshole for drama, it was a interesting prediction of what we'd see in the years to come, where high ranking positions in big corporations are often out of touch with the very thing they are selling. Beebe knew nothing about racing and this movie seemed to imply he didn't even know anything about cars in general yet he somehow managed to be in a position to make major decisions that everyone would agree was not in Ford's best interests and in this movie, countermand Henry Ford II not once but twice and managed to not piss him off enough to fire him. Almost every major industry has at least one high up executive or CEO like Beebe today, so the trend is not so recent.
This is a fantastic film! Feel like it didn’t get its due (just too much coming out pre pandemic) great acting, superb camera work and editing!
That last little “Alright” at 2:42 as he prepares to pass him gives me goosebumps
Peters love and pride for his father makes this movie so much extra special

James mangold proved with great cast and story the magic he can create.
Love the detail from Bales snot near his mouth to the vibration of the car going up and down due from the light weight body structure of the car.

The editing Oscars this film got are so well earned. I'm not the sort who really noticed editing in films before, but in this film, every race is just so tense and beautifully paced that you can't help but marvel at it.
