Great vid, like all your others, your an inspiration & love your channel. I have a quick question, does the dimmer switch still dim the led’s? I drive a lot of back country roads and while I love the bright look of the LED’s most of the time, I sometimes bring them down to dim to make night driving easier on the eyes. I still have regular bulbs in but considering led replacements because of 1 being out and having to get back there anyways! Thanks

Thank you. Yes, the dimmer switch still works perfectly 👍🏻 I’d recommend only changing the illumination bulbs and not the indicators.

The color green is a combination of blue and yellow, called complimentary colors. If you take separate blue- and yellow-colored glass or thin plastic, place one over the other, and put a light behind the 2 pieces of glass you will see a green color. There are other complimentary colors, too. The reason why you may see a bit more blue with green may be because of the color density of one color over the other. There are other possible explanations as well. Your point of just minimizing the risk of damage is a very good point in any repair. Thanks for your well explained video.👍

BTW, I've done the heater delete, using your video as my guide. Easy peasy. Now I'm fixing to do the dashlight bulb replacements. But I went with the blue 194's and 37's. That light switch appears to be removed the se as my 99 f150, the process is: Step 1. Turn headlights on Step 2. pull knob towards you (fog position on such equipped trucks) Step 3. use micro screwdriver to pop knob off fascia Step 4. Turn knob 180 degrees, so that the back of the knob (where you inserted the screwdriver) is now pointing to headlight icon, press onto switch to reinstall. Step 5. Turn knob to off position and in (fog lights off) Step 6. Turn headlights back on. The little fingers on the back of the knob should now have those tangs retracted so you can pull the switch out of the dash.

That headlight switch is actually really neat the way it comes out. If you give the knob a slight pull there is a tiny hole underneath for a small screwdriver to release the knob. Once the knob is off, you take the knob and put it on upside down and turn it, and it’ll pull that spring loaded locking pawl in, and the whole switch comes out from the front. Basically the knob is a secret key/removal tool.

Just a heads up the headlight switch itself is it’s own removal tool all you need is a pocket screw driver turn the lights all the way to 3 position then slightly pull the headlight switch out you should see an opening close to around 7 o clock to insert pocket screw driver and then the knob then slides of the rotate the knob 180 then rotate will then active the release of the switch

Excellent video! They aren't really "directional" - it's a matter of LEDs being polarity sensitive, so positive and negative voltage have to be correct. That's why you might have to rotate them 180° sometimes. I was confused at first, but then I saw that clarified on the Amazon product page.

JB Marker sounds like she’s running pretty well. I haven’t had the opportunity to measure true highway mileage yet because most of my commutes involve some level of rush hour traffic. So I’m sure it could be a little better. Also have my breaks dragging a bit so that will hurt it some too. At some point I’ll be fixing the breaks and probably ordering a hotter tune to see how much that bumps up the mileage.

Well, I finally got around to doing the LED replacements yesterday. Did the five 194 bulbs and the one 37 bulb, all in Blue. While I had the gauge panel loose I put the three power plugs back in, temp installed the headlight switch and turned it on to see if any of the bulbs needed their polarity reversed. About half were good and I easily switched the others. I could peek inside the panel and watch the bulbs light up. Here's the thing, while the middle of the gauge panel is now a nice bright blue it seems like the panel to the left and right is dark? I did the change in bright daylight so it's hard to tell. I'm going to check it again tonight and do a look-see. Any suggestions on why the left & right are dark and the middle is well illuminated?

Thanks for all your videos. I have been watching them all to learn about my new to me 1999 F350 diesel. I am in the process of the bulb swap to led's and I can for the life of me tell which bulb goes in which direction. I actually thought i was pretty smart by making a felt pen mark on one side of the small bulb holders, so that when installed, they'd go back the way the came out. Turns out, that even some of those had to be turned 180 (like you said, here somewhere). Still, though, I can't tell if my 'sensor' lights are correctly positioned. for example, my low fuel light. I won't know if it's right until I run low on fuel and if it's wrong, yank it all apart. Is there an easier way to know if they are correctly installed?

  • @LivingOnWheels

The bulb holders themselves are non directional. It’s the LEDs the need to be a certain way. So you can either switch the holder or the bulb in the holder. I didn’t actually switch out any of the indicator bulbs. Can’t remember which lights turn on when you cycle the key. I know most of them do.

Great informative video content! I have a bulb out for my environmental controller switch. You’re right, there’s not a lot of videos to remove the dashboard. I had to replace my factory trailer brake controller. There was only one video but it had a pullout container which I didn’t have! So, thru trial & error I gently got the dashboard removed. I was praying the whole time that I didn’t crack the dashboard! No fun at all! Any suggestions for fixing my ‘05 6.0L driver’s side window? Luckily, it stopped working in the up position. Are there tips/ways to check the switch & motor? Thanks for all you do making your videos! Even tho I have a ‘05 6.0L, a lot of your mods are universal for the Powerstroke. Unfortunately there is not a lot of good ways to work on the window motor while its inside the door. If it were my I might try to sneak in one of those light testers and see if it is getting power to the motor when its supposed to. Other than that you'll probably have to just pull it out and test it manually.

I never swapped my indicator bulbs so I don’t have direct experience but there have been a large amount of people that have reported similar issues. The LEDs seem to require so little electricity that some of the indicators can pick up on radiant energy from the illumination bulbs. Unfortunately my best recommendation is to swap those back to halogen.

The factory radio can be really stubborn. One trick it to reach the the ash tray to try and push on the back to help break it free. you might be able to get the radio and dash bezel out all in one but I think there are to screws above the radio that help hold the bezel in. They don't secure it, just hold it tight on slide type things. I've never loosened mine and it slide on and off fine but I cant speak for all.

I have a 2000 Ford F-150. I am replacing the instrument cluster lights with blue T-5 LED bulbs. The T-5 LED bulbs are polarity. When I install a LED bulb in the high beam indicator, I only get the LED to light up when I pull back on the left side turn-signal stalk or lever. When I push the stalk forward toward the dash so that the high beams are on all of the time and also for the high beam indicator light bulb to stay on all the time, I get no LED light at all. When I reverse the LED bulb polarity, I get no high beam indicator light at all in either direction. Does your T-5 LED bulb for your high beam indicator light up in both directions, forward for full time high beam or reverse (towards you) just to flash oncoming cars to warn them of a cop up ahead or whatever? I'm thinking I may have to use an LED bulb that is non-polarity, works in both directions like the factory original bulbs. But I do not see for sell on Amazon or EBay to where you can buy only one LED T-5 bulb that is non-polarity. Let me know on your truck if your high beam indicator light works in both directions (forward and aft or reverse). Thank You!!

Probably not what you want to hear but to be honest I only changed out my illumination bulbs. Not any of the indicator bulbs. My recommendation would be to leave the indicator bulbs as halogens.
