On this 2016 F-550 truck, I traced the source of the parasitic drain to the APIM which was causing the batteries to go dead overnight.

The overhead Cab light gaskets on mine, dried out and water was getting into the headliner. Couldn't tell they were bad by looking at them, but a new aftermarket light fixture fixed my problem.

THANK YOU for sharing your experience and knowledge on resolving an often very, very difficult problem to solve. My challenge is a 2001 F450 diesel with the 7.3L that I just bought. Previous owner advised me he had been having problems starting the truck (not starting really but cranking) so he was gracious enough to install two brand new batteries before delivering the truck to me. It was still slow to crank so I fully charged the batteries (to 13.25vdc) and it sat for only a day and when I went to crank it the batteries were too weak. Battery voltage had dropped from 13.35vdc to 12.75 in less than 48 hours. I plan to diagnose my issue following your method as soon as I get an ammeter. Thank you!!

Thanks so much for this video! . . 2011 white 6.2 purchased used with massive electrical issues along with rusting. Finally figured out it was from upper Canada, most likely used in oil operations. Beaten to hell and exported for sale via auction in the United States. I understand it's a loophole for avoiding disclosure.

Nice video as always. Mine ended up being the air suspension module in my 2002 Lincoln Town Car. Also located behind the glove box. I don’t know what caused it to fail because it and the area around it were spotless, but yeah my battery would drain overnight.

I once struggled with something similar, it turned out that the bulb in the glove compartment did not turn off when closed. 7-14 days of not using the car resulted in a discharged battery... Sticky tape pressing the closed door button permanently solved the problem :)

This goes a ways back, but I had a water leak from the windshield cause a short in a GM DRAC module ('92 1-ton van), only when it was raining. The speedometer would go wacky, and soon the transmission would go into limp-mode. It usually got better after it dried out, but eventually quit altogether. A junkyard replacement (and some silicone for the leak) fixed the problem.

I’ve got a draw on my truck, I tried to do this but got nothing. After watching your video I think I may have been reading my meter wrong. Electrical work isn’t my strong suit, lol. I’ll give it another shot this weekend.

Thank you for the video. 👍 I tried diagnosing my 2011 SD 250 and came up with the alternator diodes... changed the alternator but that wasn't my problem....So... now to the fuse pulling to find my Electrickery Problem.

Why manufacturers do not protect the modules circuit boards from water ? Is this too expensive to do ?
