Ford 3.5 EcoBoost P0106 Wrench Light FIX
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I recently purchased this 2013 Ford F-150 EcoBoost as a mechanic's special due to a rough idle, lack of power and multiple warning lights issue. Initially, I suspected the timing chains as the PCM had multiple codes stored in history for timing, running lean as well as a P0106 MAP sensor performance / range code. I fired the parts cannon and replaced all the timing components, which resolved the cold start rattle and timing codes, but the engine still idled rough, still lacked power and still set a MAP code and lean codes. In the end, it turned out to be a $75 MAP sensor on top of the intake manifold which took 30 seconds to replace. Now the engine runs smooth and has full power.

We feel your pain! Hope those components were at the point of needing changing anyways, so that the extra costs and time right now where not a complete waist. We did learn something about how those 3 sensors work! Thanks for posting!
Have an 04 FX4 with 457,000 kms and still runs like a dream and pulls 9000lbs no problem 😁
There’s always something else broken to find after spending a good paycheck on parts. Keep up the good work 👍
I'm glad you found the fix for it sir. Nice diagnosis and explanation
You’ll be glad you did all that work once you get it running properly. I’m sure it will easily have another 150k of service life 🤞
I am a ford tech, gas or diesel I replace MAP sensors often....I recommend them as scheduled maintenance
Good info man , glad to see another upload
Excellent video with a good resolution! Happy New Year to you.
I have a 97 f250hd had the same problems! Codes were map sensor, idle control sensor and shift sensor as well as egr valve! Found out when we replaced the lifters, we forgot to replace the intake gasket! It was leaking on back of motor so I was losing vacuum!
I just got one 2014 so far I love it, very well maintained 205k
That was a much much better ending than Game of Thrones. Nicely done.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing your find and fix.
If I was you I’d also check the intake valves for carbon build up. That could cause run issues. Caused a lot of misfiring for me and I was convinced it was coils or plugs but no, it was carbon on the valves.
You should do a direct injection cleaning. I also seen fordtechmakuloco talk about a good high volume oil pump upgrade for these trucks with higher mileage. Mines also 13 and doing some tune up work to it.
Great job good share... Thank you brother... Blessing in the New Year.
This i why i started with checking senors first before doing any big work. Took my car to a shop for a tiing belt and cam position sensor, they recommended the crank sensor as well, got the car back and it ran like shit. I called them and told them exactly what happened but they wanted to charge me a diag fee, i told them i already diagnosed it myself and since the part they recomended was under warranty i got the old one reinstaled for free. Always sensors first. but at least that rattle is gone at start up.
I have ford f150 2014 supercrew same engine.it has p0016 Code. I had the cam shaft sensor replaced but my truck is still accelerate slow while driving, same problem as old. And ecoboost starts when I accelerate higher. Also I don't have rattle noise. We did live data and it cam shaft position sensor 1 bank à shows different numbers with bank B. What could be the problem? Should I check the engine inside or what else should I do?
Changed thermostat in my daughters car. She said she ran it hot a couple time before she remembered to let me know. I did a thermostat. Checked the radiator and water pump. But still having overheating issues after bleeding and bleeding and bleeding the air out of the system. I’m afraid she blew the head gasket. It’s an 04 and we got it cheap nearly 2 years ago so whoopity do.
By chance do you have any videos of how to fix the engine reduced power code on a '08 GMC Acadia. I've been told so many things to fix it but nothing has worked so far.
What happened to the 6x6 f150?
Hi, I have rv just like yours identical. Have alot of the original manual If you like copys of them . Also need some help with my slide . Previous owner replaced hydraulic pump but now hasn't worked has to be electrical since I'm not getting power to main cables (+) or (-) . Do you know if this has a breaker somewhere and which one ? I when trough whole system can't find it for that partial circuit? Thanks for you help and let me know if you like copys of manuals thanks
excellent..I can't find my absolute sensor on my 2007 f150 .46 ..where is it please help.
I got the wrench light replaced with new it went away a week later it came back on ? Any tips?
Did yiu change out the cam phasers?
Same problem I've been having but mine supposedly is throttle body assembly. Imma have to check further into this. Mind me asking what code reader ur using? I really love this truck but lately it's been a love/hate relationship. Lol
Nice video! On a side note... Is there anything good about the 3.5 motor? Lol
What was the care required to get the motor to 240k
Engine looked very varnished.
All the internal work you did was a good idea anyway with 214k on the engine. Chains, guides, sensors and such were due not to mention the water pump. Why did Ford put the water pump INSIDE the engine? Blow a water pump seal and fill the crankcase up with water. What did that Snap-On diagnostic tool cost you?
Well Done
Did u ever find out why your 2015 chrysler 200 kept overheating ?
I am late on my oil change. Could this be why mine is on
Use the Motorcraft oil filter. It has the best anti-drainback valve for these 3.5 eco's. I have used Mobil1 Extended Performance oil and filters and it will rattle at startup after 2 days. It never rattles with the same oil and the Motorcraft filter.

Who actually makes the oil filters for motorcraft? Aren't they just rebranded as motorcraft?

@@AbcAbc-sp1od I'm pretty sure that Purolator makes them. They are long life filters and are spec'd with a silicone adbv. I don't know if the Purolator is or not.

@@stevemartin4684 ahh, I forgot about that... I think you're right!
Why he didn’t say anything about how crusty those engine internals looked that engine needs some high detergent synthetic oil in there for a few oil change
That Varnish @1:16 is that caused by late oil changes or cheap oil and going too long or is just because this is a high mileage engine?

I would say late oil changes. I have seen engines with more miles than this that are super clean inside.

@@sprint2648 late oil changes and combination of conventional oil or syn blend and probably didn’t change the pcv valve at all.
Thanks 👍
Do you still have this truck? If so how is it running?
The timing chain job wasnt a waste of time & parts since no rattles now, and after 200k the chains are guarenteed to be stretched & the cams sightly out of time
Why does it have a MAP and turbo boost sensor?
@DanielJaegerFilms
Жыл бұрын
Good question, the way I see it, the purpose for both sensors is to be able to measure the boost/vacuum on either side of the throttle body.
Whoever had the truck before you didn't change the oil worth a damn.
@classicjay7786
Жыл бұрын
That’s what I said I’m talking 10k oil changes using the bare minimum conventional or syn blend oil and never replaced the pcv valve
So do you think the sensor was the whole problem? Do you think those old timing chains would have worked even if they were probably going to fail at some point?
@mph5896

It was rattling on startup. Time for chains.

Regarding the loss of power, rough, idle, and check engine light, yes, this sensor was the whole problem. However, I did find the timing components to be loose, and it also had a rattle on start up. So I think the timing component job was a good preventative measure to prevent future issues.

cam phasers/VCT can rattle too as known ford problem particularly on newer Ecoboost 3.5. It is apparently really loud in cold weather. Not sure how to tell difference from chain noise to VCT problem.
Do you think it helped your cold start rattle
@DanielJaegerFilms
Жыл бұрын
The sensor made no difference with the coldstart rattle, but the timing component job resolved it completely.
Yeah,I do this everyday all day, always follow your scanner and not unload the parts canon, lol.
Where’s the Excursion?
I just found one of these trucks for 3500 good deals on these things
👍👍👍👍👍
Still better to do the timing chains regardless.
could be aftermarket junk usually youd see a fomoco on the sensor

This. Fords can be finicky with non oem parts.
Looked like a cheap aftermarket sensor Junk Good thing it needed the timing job anyways and all that work and money didn't go to waste
How about those plugs and wires. Dad had the same problem and it had to do with plugs an wires
That's a Ford for ya
Hmmmmm sounded promising. Then sounded rough
That engine has definitely not been taken care of
I think that’s what my problem is.
Even though u spent 1500 in parts I would have replaced everything else to with 240 thousand miles on the parts u never know when they will start acting up or go out u should be good for a while now
MY 2011 lariat crew 5 1/2 bed IS A 5.0 paid 10k with 205,000 miles I wont take a ecoboost sorry. nice truck though should have waited and found a 5.0 way less hassle
I finally fixed my F-150. I sold it.

In my life I've owned two F-250's and three F-150's. The last two 150's were absolute junk, no guts, nothing but trouble. Bought a new Ram Hemi 1500 in 2017 and have had NO problems what-so-ever with it. It'll outlive me and then go to my youngest son. Long live the ICE!
Just think if you put a new engine in it … thats about 6k … you have a 12k truck……
Damn it $1500 worth of parts and a lot of work and it didn't do shit
Well that’s a dumb design Ford did again like with the Taurus the water pumps inside the engine
this is why you dont fuck with ecoboost engines
I'm sure it's an eBay garbage sensor sure as hell wasn't Motorcraft
Sorry dude just gotta get this off my chest looks like that things had 2 oil changes in the last 214,000 miles sorry bubba
Pulling that little POS out and dropping in a 351W would fix it....PERMANENTLY. UnlessIi installed my own powertrain (Yes...I CAN do that) I would NEVER own a newer Ford truck.
Problem is.. Its a ford
Shut up and get to the point! just tell us what is wrong and what you did. No one cares about the rest

Got a 2013 f1titty platinum 3.5 EcoBoost twin turbo with over 430 thousand miles all original. Drill intercooler and install a bra over half of intercooler to increase heat so you'll have no moisture. Replaced LEAD frame on valve body..run it and forgetaboutit!! Try getting a dodge or Chevy to do that
