Ford Maverick Pick-Up TRUCK Review (2L EcoBoost) | A Worthy Truck or a GIMMICK??

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I review the Ford Maverick Mini Pick-up truck with the 2L Ecoboost engine, I discussing towing ability, max payload, pros and cons with the 2L ecoboost engine, the optional 2.5L hybrid engine and the impressive fuel economy. At the end of the day is this a REAL pick up truck and should you consider it when buying a truck?

Well I figured it was time to look at some smaller trucks and I figured it was time to start here with the ford maverick because I think it is an interesting truck.
My goal for this video was to determine if this little truck was indeed meant to be used as a pick up truck or if it was a gimmick. first off is the 2L ecoboost engine. I discuss the both the benefits and issues with this 2L ecoboost engine when buying one. but overall they are not bad engines.
I also talk about the hybrid options for these Maverick trucks and discuss the specs and power numbers associated with the 2.5L hybrid engine. I also talk about the awesome fuel economy and MPG numbers with the hybrid engine.
Next is the towing and payload numbers. the towing is pretty weak but the payload numbers around 1,500lbs is actually very impressive
the other thing I like about this small truck is how easy it is to use. I can access the bed very easily and I can also get in the truck nice and easily.
I think the biggest downfalls for this truck are if you need to tow anything or want some decent off-road performance this is not the truck right truck for you.
also the bed size roughly 4'5 X 4 is not very large so if you are needing to load up lumber or drywall this may not be the right truck for you and you may need to upgrade to a full size truck like an F150.

**Update, The coolant issue with the 2L Ecoboost has been fixed which is great news, Secondly I was NOT able to tow with the Maverick just got rained out. But if there is enough interest I'll get this truck back on the channel and we'll do a towing loop and payload test. I think it will be fun!

Not sure if it's a "worthy truck" but still remains the best vehicle launch since the late 1990s Honda Civic(s) and appears indeed to have preactical purpose in mind as well. Everything else remains ... still ... a crazy shoe box on wheels for some reason excepting #sadly now bk Fisker

I'd love to see an mpg loop. I've been trying to convince my bosses we need one as a work truck for when we need to move guys more than stuff. We've got a GMC 2500 extended cab that gets 10mpg and a regular cab f150 that's getting like 12-13mpg. If you need to move 4 guys and a couple tool bags, the maverick starts to make a lot more sense. Had to drive the 2500 to our warehouse for some clocks the other day... Felt pretty overkill

Used to have a F150 but it was getting old. So looked at a Ranger, Maverick, and Ridgeline. I went with the Ridgeline even though it was over $10K USD more than a Maverick, just seams like a better vehicle. And no turbos to worry about. And it’s built in the USA.

I have three trucks, F100 restomod, 2018 F150 XLT FX4 and a F350 4WD flatbed. I have seriously considered a Maverick as an addition to my small fleet. As garage fitment goes, I build the garage on our house to generously accommodate my F150.

I say buy what you like. I have a 2023 XLT 2.0 FWD. I don’t need all wheel drive and I see front wheel drive as a “poor man’s” four wheel drive. I don’t need a big truck and personally don’t like the looks of them. I basically needed a reasonably priced and sized vehicle that could carry four people and have an open bed when I need to haul something odd sized or dirty and I can haul a motorcycle around. Almost zero chance I’ll ever get anywhere near 1500 pounds in the back. So far I’m getting on average 30-31 mpg with probably 70% 2 lane road and 30% city driving. I’m not really thrilled it’s a ford as I don’t have a ton of faith in the long term reliability of it but as far as design and features it’s like they read my mind and made the perfect vehicle for me.

The 2.0t had a redesign of the coolant slots between the cylinders to fix the coolant issues. The slot was replaced with a drilled hole to increase the head gasket width between the cylinders. I had my short block replaced under warranty on my 2017 Lincoln MKZ with the updated design.

I bought a 2024 Maverick about 3 months ago. Mine is the XL model and I really like it. The Ecoboost engine is averaging between 28 and 29 miles per gallon over the first 2200 miles. It handles and drives much better than my old Ranger, and gets over 20 percent better gas mileage. It is also nice having a back seat with storage under the seat.

1500 lbs is also pretty similar to what you get on a Ram Power Wagon, since its GVWR is derated for its off-road suspension. The Maverick isn't particularly good at off roading or towing, but the size is great for many people, and its payload is pretty surprisingly good.

Considered buying the 2.0L, AWD and tow package Maverick for over a year. Ended up getting a 2.7L GMC Sierra with tow package for a similar price point. Just far more capabilities in the 1500 than the Maverick. Still a solid option for those who don't need the capabilities of a body on frame truck.

I've got the exact same truck but the hybrid version. For bigger stuff I tow a 6x10 ft aluminum trailer. Did a 400 mile trip with 400cc bike and small ATV including hilly terrain (WV) with ease on gravel roads. Including highway got a combined 18.5mpg doing legal speeds. Mixed driving unhitched average is so far 44-45mpg. 7,000 miles in 5 months with no problems. Bought a cap and a pullout bed = great tool truck for farm chores. Perfect all around commuter. For heavier duty the HD farm truck steps in. Front wheel drive in winter is like 1/2 an AWD😜

Overall would prefer a longer bed, thats my only complaint.

These trucks really do make a lot of sense as a daily driver. I don’t know anyone with the hybrid getting less than 30 mpg. The 2.0 ecoboost got the updated block in 2020 I believe. My wife has the 2.0 in her Lincoln and it makes some impressive power for its size and compared to other engines in its class. I work in construction and you’d be surprised how many of them I see as fleet vehicles.

Greetings Alex. The Maverick is an excellent option for light loads, preferably city trips and occasionally dirt roads; without compromising its traction capabilities. The advantages of size and maneuvering in increasingly tight parking spaces is another plus. But the advantage to consider is its PERFORMANCE (MPG). Without a doubt, its maintenance cost and valve carbonization problems due to its direct injection and exhaust gas management must be considered. In my humble opinion an EXCELLENT PURCHASE OPTION!! Your analysis is EXCELLENT. THANK YOU very much for sharing your videos!! A HUG and BLESSINGS Alex!! 🤠

A family member has a 2016 Fusion AWD 2.0 Ecoboost with well over 150,000 miles on it and it still runs strong. It has not shown any performance problems due to carbon buildup and the turbo is the original with no issues. Properly maintained these engines will last. Being turbo charged you need to change the oil more often than Ford schedule 5,000 to 8,000 miles depending on usage. City driving requires more frequent changes.

To answer your Q, too small. I owned Tacoma for 6 months, could not wait to trade out of it. I took a picture at the dealership of it parked next to the half ton I traded it for and it was dwarfed in comparison. And it was a TRD Offroad with longbed. Coming froma 1st gen Tundra I thought it would be a comparable size. Definitely not.

@@TheGettyAdventures From my recent escapades in new truck shopping, the cheapest trim for an F150 with a heated steering wheel was the Lariat and that was over $70k USD. But walk across the street to the Chevy store, and you can find heated steering wheels in trucks costing much less. What's annoying is they'll pack all this stuff into other models, car based models and it will be included for a lot less moolah.

I started watching your channel because you had interesting thoughts about diesel engines and more, but you make such mistakes more and more often that I have the impression that you get something to use for 1-2 days and you immediately become a specialist. First example - comparing the load capacity of a half ton with a 3/4 by placing the load in the half ton behind the rear axle. The next one was "revelations" about the regen in the petrol Tundra (luckily you deleted this video), now you compare a small unibody bed to a fullsize bed - do you really think that potential buyers don't know this? Why don't you compare it in a practical way by including, for example, 20 items per trip - you may be surprised. Why doesn't the film include the opinion of someone who might be interested in such a pickup - a friend, maybe a family member? 1.5 minutes about the engine only? Does it all still make sense or are you just counting on clicks?

If I didn't care, I would just ignore it and not comment on anything, but I know from life that sometimes if someone tells you something that you can't see and others didn't have the courage, even though it's unpleasant, it can change something for the better. Do we really want another - thousandth or more - channel that will read parameters from a piece of paper, sometimes adding a photo? I'm writing this because this channel has more potential.
