There's no replacement for displacement EVERRRRR! Dodge just wrote their last hurrah, the truck obituary is now in ink and in all caps. BTW, I've had inline sixes, (Supras 7mge/2JZgte/Datsun 280z) and they typically blow head gaskets between cylinders 5 - 6 at 80-100K miles. Too bad so sad, blame the fjords and antarctic ice sheets ...

The government could care less about “fuel economy” or saving us peasant consumers money. They do however care about emissions. You know, the whole “green” global warming thing.

Hybrid owners are screwed the most. The reason the hybrids are not in recall is that when engine dies the hybrid still have electrical motor to provide some motion power. That’s why it is not as dangerous as full loss of power on pure ICE. This is bullshit.

I have 24 duramax with 15k miles that turned 1 year old not too long ago. Only issue I had was one of DRL headlight had LED deadspot...probably from factory and warranty replaced it. They are 3k+ each and completely not serviceable...if a bulb goes out, you replace the whole thing. This isn't inspiring much confidence in me keeping the truck past warranty...my other cars never saw a dead headlight lightbulb in 5+ years, but they also did have a string of a zillion LEDs for DRLs. Also these fancy LED headlights aren't all that great at night either. There some software updates. 1 of them early on I had to approve and sit in truck as it happened (to fix some check engine light thing people were having that I never had), but another one I later discovered happened by itself, which is a bit concerning as I don't even know how it was able to download anything since the truck didn't have data service plan and is normally in low single zones. I replaced my fuel filter just a week ago (for which btw dealer wanted $600 to do and said should be done every oil change or 5k miles). I found a tiny bit of metal shavings on the bottom...kinda concerning, but doing some research, seems like it's normal/common thing...I have no way of knowing if it was in the fuel I purchased or the tank pump. What I don't like is the truck MPG is often inconsistent... I'll get 13 MPG one day for the same trip that I normally 18-20 MPG another day...I think it's because regen kicks in and there is nothing in tell me that. In long trips, I average 21-24 MPG. I got 21 MPG in a 250 mile trip to beach with the truck fully loaded in family and baggage/gear....700+ miles or range. Towing MPG doesn't make sense to me as well... I'll get 10-12 MPG same trip with empty trailer or it having +9000 LB on it...I'd think empty towing I should be getting better MPG, but it's just not the case. It just seems to me the truck just gets whatever MPG it chooses and my driving style or load isn't really a big factor. Towing rarely and mixed driving, my overall MPG ends up being between 17-18 MPG. Def usage has been about 2000-2500 miles per jug, or something like add a jug every 4-5 fill ups.

Your bias is pretty hard to overlook in this video. According to real data, Ford's 3.5 ecoboost is a more reliable engine than the 5.0 v8. And anyone who has owned both knows the 3.5 ttv6 blows the 5.0 out of the water in power and towing, and is also a slightly more efficient motor. The only people clinging on to old NA V8s are the people who didn't go to college who don't understand physics.

For the one’s who have the 6.7 turbo diesel.banks pedal monster and the idash .grid heater intake horn, boost tubes, air box. If you do a lot of towing get the the diff cover and temp sensor. I have about 3000$ in so far and fuel mileage has doubled. Talks to a guy that does the campers out of Florida he has 10,000 $ in and he showed me he is now getting thirty mpg not towing and eighteen with a trailer. The hemi engine has its limits on towing.

Put a pedal monster on it & wake it up it's tuned down to reduce emissions & max mpg while not towing throw a pedal monster on it set it on high level of city driving & maybe some adjustable leaf spring helpers on the rear as many people that intend to tow often would & them compare it to the larger engines to counter the no replacement for displacement argument as the playing field becomes level it'll be a great video with potential unexpected gains across the board just saying not a prediction it's a spoiler

Does cylinder deactivation work better with overhead cams? Ram and GM are pushrod engines. Toyota has laid a big egg with their turbo V6. I have a feeling that there are some Toyota engineers that have their jobs on the line! I seriously doubt that the problem is debris in the engine. The F150 with the Coyote V8 may be my next truck.

My concern with the second gen is the rubber belt submerged in oil in the timing case. Started digging in after getting some performance issues and to your point it seems the consensus is to change the oil every 5000, and part of that was using fords particular brand of oil that was developed to extend the life of that belt. Came across a good handful of guys that blew their motor under 100,000 mi. One similarity in the stories were frequency of oil changes was 10,000, I fall right in line with that, job looks fairly extensive. Good video learned a lot, any suggestions about the best place to spray some cleaner into the intake to clean carbon off rods? I was considering spraying some intake cleaner through a vacuum line on the intake, with the truck running, any thought from you real mechanics out there?

2019 STX 2.7 4x4 Supercrew 3.55, and now a 2024 XLT 2.7 4x4 Supercrew 3.55. I always fill up the 36 gal tank with at least 89 but normally 93 octane and add Lucas Oil fuel treatment w/ upper cylinder lubricant plus a very small amount of Startron enzyme fuel treatment to combat effects of 10% ethanol. I run that mix in all my equipment and toys year round with great success. I work very close to home so mostly very short trips around town and high idle time results in 12-14 mpg avg and that's as bad as the 2.7 will possibly do from my experience, where similar trucks with V8's get as low as 8 mpg avg in same conditions. I frequently do 350-500 mile round trips up to the white mountains in New Hampshire or northern Maine and back to Cape Cod and the mpg vary greatly depending on wind conditions, and temperature. Going uphill the entire way there I avg 17-20 and 21-25 coming back downhill depending on conditions and speed. Flat highway driving at 65 you can maybe squeeze out 25 mpg, but I see ppl post numbers higher than that and think it must be the best they've ever done on a stretch of highway and not a reasonable average to expect.

On its best day, in any driving conditions, my 2013 3.5 eco boost never did better than 18 mpg with stock tires. With better riding road tires, it’s routinely 15-16. Is the tune that much better on the newer truck?

So I rented a 2024 Powerboost 4x4 for the week for a long road trip to Arizona from Louisiana. Been maintaining 22 to 22.5 mpg at speeds between 75-79 mph. I’m actually quite surprised by those numbers. Wish I can compare a 5.0L at those speeds. About to start the second half the trip and will be driving into the wind of northern Texas and New Mexico, and then the high desert of Arizona, let’s see how the truck performs.

The gas engines typically burn a lot more fuel than a diesel engine and generate less power. There is no comparison in a dualey diesel / gas

  • @tevetorbes456

Electric vehicles require electric power which is mostly coal and nuclear generated. So imagine if the ratio of gas to electric vehicles was instantly reversed the entire grid would shut down due to being over demand by a lot of megawatts. It’s not logical at this point and no family wants to stop multiple times during a road trip.

If the engineers at Ford would work on changing the F-150’s V8 peak torque output at 45,000 RPMs down to a lower mid range RPM peak, I’m wondering if that would increase their truck’s fuel efficiency and towing capability. It seems weird that Ford is putting a sports car motor in their trucks.
