Ford Maverick Auto Dim w/ Homelink Mirror Install.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I will show you how to wire up and install the Kia part number A7062-ADUP1 auto dimming mirror with compass and homelink. The install is easier if you have the co-pilot 360 vision module, but I cover 2 installation methods.
Parts Used:
Plastic Trim tools: amzn.to/3LcQA2x
T-Taps: amzn.to/420fqbX
Fluke multimeter: amzn.to/3TgxNoT
Kia Mirror part number: A7062-ADUP1
Couldn't find on Amazon. I got from ebay.
Fuse circuit adder for those without copilot 360: amzn.to/3JxhQaJ

Great video and explanation. I just got this mirror and was trying to figure out the best approach. I'll definitely be tapping into the lights above.
Great video! The labeling for the wires was super helpful. I only had 2 PosiTaps (love 'em) in the right size, so I just tied both power wires into the ignition circuit. The Maverick seems to turn this on as soon as you open the door, even without a key, so it seems like it will work just fine.
Excellent- I have been reading how to do this, and waiting for a KZread- the TTaps are something I am getting now

Perfect tutorial. Thank you.
I found my 6" GARMIN GPS fits PERFECTLY into the sunglass holder. I just need to tap that purp wire for key on power. !
Somebody might find this comment helpful. To be clear I only blame myself for this mistake and I find my mistake kind of funny. I saw your wiring “diagram” on screen for the wiring harness 1:17 going to the map lights and thought it would be the perfect place to wire my radar detector into. I used the wire you had marked as “ignition” (purple wire) thinking that it would just turn on with the ignition and off when it turned off. It worked perfectly when I wired it and put everything back together. That night I went for a drive and my radar detector would not turn on. I found it weird but figured I’d try the next day when it was daylight out. To my surprise the next day it worked perfectly again. And again, that night it stopped working. I assume this is the wire that is used to control the auto dimming feature on the mirror which totally makes sense. So one night I went out with my phone when my radar wouldn’t turn on, held my flashlight up to the ambient light sensor on the dash and voila! My radar detector turned on! Turns out the purple wire only gives 12v when the light sensor detects ambient light!! I chuckled to myself and left it as is until I find another wire to tap into. Great video though! Thanks for posting it :)

Oddly some people say this wasn’t an issue. It was for me, maybe people don’t dim there dash nights at night.

@@CGM00SE ooh I didn’t think of that. Yeah I keep my dash lights at about 50%. My radar was getting SOME power at night, it was getting like 9-10v, but it wasn’t enough to keep it on and it would act super funky. Man, that makes so much sense.

Glad to help! Not the end of the world, but pretty sweet upgrade for $20!
What that sticky stuff is is, FRICTION TAPE. 100 years ago when man first discovered electricity friction tape was developed to act as an electrical tape. Unlike the PVC electrical tape of today, friction tape has no adhesive it is just a little sticky to stick to itself. This is what our great great grandads used. I am amazed it is still around but I guess for whatever reason, Ford finds it necessary to use it here & there. !

Excellent video. Thank you for doing this. My mirror is on order. You make the comment about the Copilot 360 camera but isn’t it true that all XLTs have the camera module even if they don’t have the feature? I’ve seen references on the club site that say you can enable the Copilot feature with for scan. thank you.

I would imagine that it would work just fine, but only when the ignition is switched.
Thank you for posting this video. My post is rather late as I used the instructions to install my Kia mirror about 6 months ago. With the 12+ live on the homelink all the time, did you find any excessive draw on your battery when the vehicle was off? I'm concerned about killing the battery with the homelink always active in the truck.

No. The homelink portion doesn't draw power unless a button is pressed.

Thank you so much for this. Just for connection clarification: Ground: Ford Interior Lighting Harness Black/Blue=Black Left Homelink Harness 12V Constant (Homelink): Ford Interior Lighting Harness Yellow=Black Middle Homelink Harness 12V Intermittent (Compass/Auto Dimming): Ford Interior Lighting Harness Purple=Black w/ White Stripe Homelink Harness Did you snip the wires from the Interior Lighting harness and the Home link harness to use the two into one T tap you have linked in your description? Did you cap off the extra wires or leave them in the harness connector? I'm thinking I will get these T-Taps instead so I only have to snip the wires from the Homelink harness. Low Voltage Wire splice connectors - Pack of 12 Quick Solderless T Tap Connector 1 Pin,Rock Solid Connector for 24-20 AWG Cable for Vehicle/audio/video/Lighting and Automotive Uses Is there enough room for those to be tucked away? Thanks again. Really handy.
@JCTFIXIT
Жыл бұрын
Yes I only snipped the wires from the mirror harness and then inserted them into t-taps. I left the quick disconnecting clip in place so that if I ever have my windshield replaced or similar they can disconnect without having the mirror sit there and dangle.
Got it installed, my only real problem was, for some reason the light connector was short trying to hook it back up. I got it but couldn't figure out why it was shorter going back. Also the compass never came on. Garage door works fine. Don't really need compass anyway. May go back in and figure out why.

There is a button to toggle the compass on and off but you might just have got a defective unit
Can you add a dash cam to the same wires with the home link mirror?
@JCTFIXIT

I would think so but you would need to have a 12v dash cam or something to step the 12v down to usb voltage.
@davidcano5879

I'm also wondering if a dash cam can be powered with the overhead light wiring. I know that everyone else is running wires to that fuse box and adding a circuit.
Where did you buy the mirror and how much was it?

Wouldn't you want your Homelink to be inactive when not keyed up? I am thinking for security purposes, if I leave my vehicle in the driveway and someone breaks into it, it would not want to allow them access to my garage.
@JCTFIXIT

I suppose perhaps you would. Most people using garage door openers are probably parking in them. I like to be able to open and close regardless of my ignition status.
Which dash cam are you using?

I bought it so long ago I'm not even sure of the brand
I tried this with 2 Gentex mirrors on my Maverick Lariat and it worked great in the daytime, but as soon as light hit it at night the compass went spaz and the mirror did not auto dim. It worked fine at night if there were no lights shining on it. Turning on the dome lights made glitch as well. I'm not sure but I think the purple wire is variable voltage connected the BCM. Has anyone else had this problem with this installation? Update: I connected the mirrors' power and accessory power to a direct 12v power source and it worked perfectly. With that said, many of these come with and installation cord that is long enough to go to your fuse block. Use it and a couple of fuse taps. Problem solved.

They are getting hard to come by. You will have to search the part number on Google. I got mine through a kia parts online dealer.
I’m guessing you had issues with this since the purple wire is not consistent 12v. It’s on the dash dimmer.

@@korrybelin1707 Absolutely! If you have copilot 360 you can purchase a plug and play wiring harness from a member of the Maverick truck forum. He is selling the plug and play harness and mirrors at a very reasonable price. Otherwise it is a little more difficult to route the wires to the fuse panel.
Detail: it seems if door is opened for a long time, then even always on 12v shuts off.
