@Clockwork0nions market studies and greedy dealers decide who would buy them first and then set the price. When the first Maverick was set to be sold under 20k dollars, I would have looked at one to replace my small compact car. But prices quickly shot up when they hit the market and popularity. When interest rate ease down, many Americans will be shopping for new. But with the population waiting for lower rates and lower prices it most likely will be a feeding frenzy as the market picks up in affordable easy on the gas vehicles.

I hate my current car, bought a Jeep because it was literally the only new car I could afford 6 years ago. Hasn’t been the greatest car. I’m used to the old Fords, but with today’s prices I’ll probably drive this Jeep forever because it would be cheaper to just replace motor etc than buy something new. I’ve been trying to get back into a truck and sadly I’ve seen 15-20 years old trucks going for 20-25k which is insanely priced as well. Your screwed on all ends as far as cars go. It’s literally cheaper just keeping and replacing broken parts as needed

The goal of the governments is to get people out of their private vehicles WEF style and onto public transit. This is done by making it unaffordable by: interest rates, taxation, vehicle capital cost, insurance costs, fuel costs, maintenance costs, income tax. No disposable money left. The solution WEF style is 15 minute cities. No need for private transportation.

Bought a used 2022 Escape AWD Titanium w/ under 20K miles. Got it home, took it out a few days later and the check engine light came on! Dealer I bought it from refused to take it back. Took it to a Ford dealer, left it there for 2 weeks, they replaced the purge valve under warranty. Drove it a couple of times, check engine light back on. Took it back for several more days and they come back and say the EVAP canister is broken due to a road hazard, and they won't fix it under warranty. Said it would be $900+ USD! Found a local dealer that would sell me the canister for $300, replaced it myself, then sold it for a slight loss when everything was added up. The EVAP canister was located right on the bottom of the vehicle, driver side protected only by a "cardboard" type cover. Seems like a bad design decision, cheap plastic charcoal canister required for emissions inspection located where it can easily be damaged then they won't cover under warranty and want to charge you $900 to repair! Ford stinks, never buy another again.

If I actually knew someone who would properly restore....I don't; but at least I would have a rebuilt engine, noise mitigation and all the little stuff fixed. I would pay that rather than buy a 4Runner with a lawn mower engine. EPA has ruined these companies. Problem is that even though I know mechanics, they are getting rich right now so a proper restoration is damn near impossible. Paid one joker $525 to replace my leaking Valve cover gaskets!!! Since The Lovely Bride and I don't care about being entertained by any vehicle an AM/FM radio with a couple of speakers is fine, we can both read a road map and road signs, so we don't need GPS, rubber mats and manual seats, windows and transmissions work too. We only need the basics in any truck or car for that matter so a "fleet" level pickup with real 4X4 capability would be ideal for our uses if we had any intention of buying anything new. Thankfully though, the two pickups The Lovely Bride and I currently own are both paid for, and both give us everything we need and we don't have a truck payment that exceeds the one we pay on time every month for our home.

@@kathleenking47 We've only rarely found the need for GPS on our phones such as when driving (looking for a specific VA parking garage in Baltimore, for the first time, was a thing I must admit to) "in the big city" but thanks to street surface work the GPS could only get us to within three blocks of the hospital. The lady in the phone nearly had a melt down and had to be put in a time out because we were unable to/refused to follow her directions. After that, we just figured it out on our own and by following the detour signs. I know of several folks who have totally freaked out when their in-car/phone GPS systems did not/could not put them at "the front door" of their desired destinations because such systems do not, and as far as I know, cannot keep up with road work changes to an already mapped traffic pattern.

The cause is the brain dead management, not just at Ford. I work in manufacturing and these vehicles don't have to cost more than $30k- $35k considering the numbers that they're produced in. The problem is and has been in management for decades. What's happening today is simply the maturation of their incessant incompetency over the decades. The death knell first sounded loud with the 4 door Chevelle followed by the 4 door Charger. The Charger worked because there was no other choice. But the designers and engineers are out of touch. They're out of touch by the direction of the brain dead managements.
