    I own a 9 year old Evo X running 408bhp (see my KZread dyno run) and it has covered over 110,000 miles on UK roads and it is still going strong and has had no major issues. Ford on the other hand has only just produced a car that puts out 350bhp (evo's have been putting out more than this for years,last UK model put out 440bhp) and it turns out that the engines will let go at a few thousand miles due to the head gasket. In my eyes Ford are still playing catch up to what Mitsubishi was doing years ago ! Such a shame the Evo is no more.

  • @Zerofightervi

    cliff owens The AWD system in the MK3 Focus RS is basically what you'd find in a Range Rover Evoque, I also remember hearing that even in standard trim Ford were right at the limit of what it could reliably take in terms of power. The Evo might be the oldest car there but it's got Super Active Yaw Control & an Active Centre Diff, the only mechanical downside is the 5 speed gearbox. Ford have now issued a recall for the defective headgaskets on the RS.

  • @samymasta

    @samymasta

    6 жыл бұрын

    are you sure about that? The reason UK had the FQ series in the first place is because the market for Evo's in UK were insanely demanded back then,especially in the tommi makinen days. Therefore the tuning scene would be too? The 4b11 is just more complicated to tune than 4g63,it's well known,even in in North America people don't really know how to tune those.Despite what people say 4b11 is better I believe,AMS performance and such tuners make their own 4b11 with only slightly bigger bore. It wasn't well supported at all in North America at first if you remember?People whining,wanting their 4g63 back.Not being a real evo for not having 4g63 and bla bla bla.

  • @ianjohnson4541

    @ianjohnson4541

    samymasta - some fair points although my impression is that the x isn't that popular a tuning platform over here. I think some of it has to do with the ecutek system. I have a tuned x (mhi 18k/boltons) but 8/9's seem far more popular, particularly in tuning scene. Quite often get parts from states - tuning scene seems pretty healthy over there.

  • @samymasta

    @samymasta

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah well I think it has to do with big companies like AMS,ETS,STM,which made extremely powerful and reliable parts/tunes. You got some 2008 evo x on E85 running 1000hp+ The aftermarket car culture is,by far way ahead in the US I'll give you that,more than anywhere else on earth. It's the tuners around here you have to be very careful.In north America we're used to 8 cylinders that push 700 hp+ like a fart. It's a completely other thing to tune a 2.0l turbocharged engine to 700hp lol,especially considering how suprisingly lean the Evo x runs. Here where I live in Quebec,Canada,there are only TWO well known tuners who are recognised as being knowledgeful of the 4b11,for the whole province. I don't know if you know,but Quebec,is fucking huge lol. The 2 biggest evo forums in Canada actually recommends to go have your Evo tuned in the US,not Canada. That gives you an idea lmfao. Not only that but pretty much all world records are held and broken by American tuners times and times again.

    You have to push the sti to your and the cars limit to have "fun" as he makes it out. Subaru puts quality and safety above anything else no matter what. If you push the STI, it will most definitely be a more enjoyable experience since it is meant for daily driving, especially here in the U.S.

    Honestly Subarus are not impressive I cannot believe people still consider them to be something as good as Evo's they don't compare at all they don't hold boost very well they are highly expensive for cars that are barely running 6-second 0 to 60 s with a turbo how pathetic is that how are you going to have a 13 second quarter mile with an engine that's supposed to be one of the best 4 cylinder turbo is out there may be back in the 90s it was but it isn't now an evo n a focus are two way better options Subarus are for people who want a sporty car but don't want to pay the money to actually own a race car

    Great review! I share the same opinion on the Evo. I think its a brilliant car and in my opinion the most exciting of the three. Mercedes and Ford are feeling so proud of making 4 cylinder engines with 350hp but they apparently forgot that Mitsubishi made 400hp 5 years ago. Would I pick the Evo over the Focus RS? Most likely I would. I love the Ford, being a newer car with more features and a more comfortable ride (my mom would hate the Evo) its definitely got appeal. However, the Evo is just bae, isn't it?

    Someone posted the engineering documentation reports on the RS engine in the FocusRS forums. It's a long read, but, my takeaway is this engine is pretty maxxed from the factory. There's not much margin in it. Not to say that makes it bad, but I'd rather have a heavier, more stoutly built block. People are going to want to tune a hothatch, and I don't know if a high specific output all aluminum open deck design is conducive to it.

    Yeah huh? Single digit percentage is crazy. It was a low percentage of cars that had the wrong headgasket installed at the factory due to unskilled european laborers. Ford recalled all the RS sold even if the correct gasket is there and replaced it just in case. Too bad you can't use that line anymore, goofball.

    Nice video mate! Would be good to get your hands on the new MY18 Type R and STI and give them a go too. I just got a MY18 STI and loving it, a bit more out there with those big yellow brakes, 19" wheels etc. Maybe Subaru are doing one last dash before the Hybrids come in? Anyway I agree you do need an exhaust on the STI to make it sound a bit more exciting too. 👊 I test drove the RS and definitely the quicker car but the interior let me down. I mean compare the gauges to the MY18 STI gauges for example. My 2c!

    Great Video and a pretty good comparison. Yes the FQ400 is a limited edition however with minimal mods you can bring a stock 290hp Evo x up to some pretty respectable numbers AND they will keep doing those numbers for years without fault if you look after them. I’ve had my Evo X for 9 years now and it’s done 135,000kms, currently pushing the equivalent of 500 engine horsepower and it’s still running an unopened motor with stock internals and still on the ORIGINAL factory clutch! That’s what makes the Evo’s great. My VIDEOS show the sort of abuse the car sees regularly, along with lots of daily driving. Focus RS would be the pick of the modern 4wd turbos.

    So I'm guessing Ford tuned the suspension to be less stiff? That's the biggest complaint I hear from most reviewers, and they definitely stray away from it as a daily driver because of that. So, did they improve the suspension or do you just not mind the rough ride?

    Clearly you havent done your research..... The evo has a very clever braking and stability control system comparable to most modern cars today :p

    Simon Johnson yup understand that, but he said it was how they felt. He mentions how good the brakes actually are 😊😊👍

    Evo's do not have a clever braking system...the "cleverness" comes from the pump driven rear differential

    being an STI owner and having owned an EvoX in the past, I can testify that both cars feel completely different. However... I completely disagree with the STI comment about it not feeling exciting when driving on back roads. Switch to sport# and turn traction control off and you got plenty of power and grip to have tons of fun. that being said... That FQ400 is a beast

    What does he mean by "Mark 10" on the evo?

  • @mrtylerseifert

    @mrtylerseifert

    It's the tenth version of the Evo. Hence the roman numeral X. Brits like to say Mark to refer to version so Evo Mark 10 just means Evo X.

    I like the reality of your video. We all saw the Honda and thankfully you reserved comment since you didn't really drive it. Looks like the Golf R was missing for a perfect comparison. In Canada we receive an RS with summer-only tires AND a set of winter tires and rims, perhaps you'd like to try out the summer set to analyze one more time.
