Great video on a real rust area on a MK3/3.5 with a Sunroof, I'm lucky that my example like yours is really tidy. I tested the drains in mine with boiling water after a gentle air compressor blow and water came dripping out of a few drain holes in the sills. It's the perfect preventative maintenance because many have been scrapped due to the rust eating away this part of the roof plus... sign you've got a MK3 that has this issue is dirty headlining from water leaks! Most earlier MK3's are probably in the hands of owners who tend to avoid using them in wet weather and keep them either covered under a car cover or garage so that water damage is minimal and therefore rust damage is prevented or slowed down in the long run.

Yeah seen so many with wet roofs etc. I need to take mine off tbh and give it a clean. Tho it’s not wet just dirty. But good to check in the meantime while off. Mine may have leaked at one point tho as do have a dirty patch as seen in the video near the sunroof

@@FF04ORD I noticed a little towards the catch most likely excess water in the past. Ruby is pretty clean it's only dirty around grab handles where the brackets rust I to the material and leave brown stains.Ive had to touch my roof up with some rattle cans to make it more presentable after a little rust killing.

I would use a foam style upholstery cleaner on the headliner and then a damp microfiber cloth. Just don't rub to hard.

@@usuallyfixingtinkering Good advice and something I need to do as mine is very dirty and very damp after a downpour . Sounds like my new years job is cleaning out the drains incase they are backed up causing my issue The alternative (replacing the sunroof seal) is something I’d rather avoid for the cost of them .

Wonder if I can do this with my sunroof on the Mk6

Maybe. Isn’t yours electric tho? Do mk6 have tilt sunroofs? I can’t remember haha

@DriveWithAndy ah maybe it was my mk5 that was electric thought yours was too.. ok so yeah maybe but guessing yours will be on runners that go between the headliner and roof. There maybe some clips holding the glass section on. Have a look and see if you can see anything. If it’s meant to come off it will be obvious tho am guessing
