    Even on thicker steel, I have always cranked it up on the mig and done short blasts. I'm no welder, but it does seem to work better if you aren't a welder by trade.

    Hi Twisty, you sure have your work cut out for you with the XW, she's had a hard life by the looks. The XF will make a great donor it has everything you need. The XF front suspension will bolt right in but the XF's are wider than the XW so you cant use the steering tie rod but the XW one will do. You will have to notch the chassis a little bit to fit the power steering box. Also the XF diff will be wider, but the spring perches should be the same hole centres. You will have to either do a swap for an XW/XY one or get it narrowed. Good luck.Cheers, Phil NZ.

    Ah Phil coming in with the awesome info again! really appreciate the comment mate thanks! that's great info, I knew about the diff but didn't think/know about the rest.. bugger.. ill be referring back to this comment later on in the build if I forget haha. For the Diff, could I off-set the rear rims a bit so the tyres sit in further?

    The inners of the torque box’s will be a mess and full of crud. You need to remove those front seal cover plates an and blow out and clean out the box’s and treat. You also need to clean and blow out the seals. Howard Astill did a recent vid talking about how to sweep out the seals on the XB panel van.

    Good to see your back into it . I’ve always used 0.9 , so I’ll have to try 0.6. With 0.9 I find there’s a lot of grinding, to get that smooth seamless look. With that industrial paint it came up beautifully, I use killrust gloss black but that takes days to finally dry. Cheers for the tips mate. Motavation is the hardest part haha!! Cheers mouse

  • @TwistedMetalCustoms

    @TwistedMetalCustoms

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah give it a go Mouse, I definitely fount it more usable and easier to weld with 0.6, alot less grinding with the higher twnps too, just takes a bit to get used to haha. Motivation IS the hardest part for sure haha, kill rust is good but does take a little bit longer being enamel to dry but decent for a can Cheers 🍻

    Chemtech Fertan is a new generation, safe, non-toxic and non-flammable rust converter that penetrates deep into rust to convert it into ferric tannate and also creates a zinc phosphate layer deep below the rust surface to protect the base metal. Chemtech Fertan treated metal can be overcoated immediately or alternatively provide a “painting window” giving total protection for up to six months. Continuous protection can be achieved with regular retreatment and provides an alternative to sand blasting and painting. Non toxic & Non Flammable Provides an ideal painting surface. Stole it direct from the website haha.

    If you decide to put stone guard or similar over it , beware of rubber based products , they will react to the enamel. My personal choice is old school bitumen . Ok commented to soon , you are using a 2 pack paint ,

    Thats very interesting to see where these old Fords rust as I Iack a hoist. The hidden bits like the shock tower bottoms. I still have my Fathers XW and the only rust I can find is a tinnie bit at the bottom of the rear quarters. The floors are mint as the fire wall is rust free. We are farmers so dad put in a Ford 4 speed toploader as he was always pulling trailers.

    @@TwistedMetalCustomsBeen a country car all its life. I wouldn't restore it as all it needs is a battery, petrol and a brake and clutch bleed. Paint is a bit sun burnt down to the primer in a few places but solid.Interior is still quite usable. Still on 5 by 14's.
