Ford F250 phenolic caliper piston failure
Ойындар
I go over my experience with the phenolic pistons in my 2005 Ford f250 power stroke. Phenolic is a pressed together plastic material used to help dissipate heat. However it expands/contracts differently than the metal caliper.
I find that if I don't drive my truck often it starts sticking and there is nothing I can do besides replacing my calipers every few years. If I don't, I'll get bad fuel economy and the phenolic will eventually break apart causing me to lose my brakes.
This has happened 3 times to me in less than 30k total miles. If anyone knows of calipers for the 6.0 f250 that use steel pistons, please let me know.

1 minute in with you holding a disintegrated piece of the piston, that is all I needed to know, thank you! will be going with steel piston calipers.
Excellent, informative video - Best of KZread level content.
Phenolic pistons were a terrible idea. Especially on a heavy duty vehicle.

I agree, they crack, swell, scrape and shatter after a few years. Great idea for motorsport applications where calipers will be rebuilt every time more or less. Less heat transfer to the fluid, lighter.... that's about it though.
