    You nailed it! Exact issue with my 6R80. Trans was replaced by dealer previous owner, but they did not change TC at the same time. I only suspected TCC after all this time, until surging at highway speeds started to show up. Only an intermittent shutter in first gear for a moment, then okay. Was an inconclusive diag without YOUR video here… thank you so much!

    Very nice explanation and demonstration, sure appreciate your sharing of experiences. I have observe slight variations in tachometer RPM in another older vehicle as the transmission was shifting gears. Pending failure? Further investigation showed it was just a normal condition as the Torque Converter Clutch was being modulated intentionally by the computer to allow a bit of slippage during the shift, softening the shift. Its amazing what you can see.

Would surge and vibrate in partial lock-up (about 400 mA TC solenoid current) but would go away at full lock ( about 700 mA TC solenoid current). TCC slip spiking upto 100 rpm at partial with zero slip at full.. Could drive down the highway at 60+ no problem, but would be a problem at 40-55 mph.

    When my 2010 started doing this at 135k, I thought I was hitting some rumble strips. Dealer had no idea what it was. I thought it was a misfire also until I noticed the tach. After seeing the RPMs go slightly up when it happened, I realized it was a clutch slipping and only during TCC lock-up. It only does it at the slightest amount of throttler. I have learned to just goose it a little more. There is some stuff on the market called Shudder Fixx I think. It is supposed to help. I had the latest trans calibration loaded from Ford which did not help. It seems that the lock up clutch just needs more pressure at low throttle. Does it between 30-60mph. Tow-haul mode seems to help. Another great video Brian.

    I've found that Fords, as well as various other manufacturers, will not set a trans code/engine light until the slip is beyond 400 rpm. By then, you know from the seat of you pants that the converter is shot. But for intermittent complaints, I've found that at light loads having the a/c on will recreate the problem every time, from speeds of 38 to 45 mph. I'm not sure why, but at highway speeds, even light loads, the lock up seems to hold, even when the converter clutches are failing.

  • @markbrickey8418

    @markbrickey8418

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the rant, and this is not aimed at any one person, so please take no offense. But, all this stuff is due to government mandated fuel economy and emissions mandates. Simple cars are no longer an option. Manual transmissions are being phased out. Many models are no longer available with manuals, and most people can't drive one anyway. That's why cars are so expensive, gov't mandates, extended warranties for 5,6 or 10 yrs. and not a little greed for higher profits. As a tech myself, it takes thousands to buy a decent scan tool, not to mention the yearly updates which range from 800-1800. I haven't mentioned multiple thousands for hand tools and special tools/diagnostic equipment. Oh, and did I mention that mechanics are the lowest paid skilled trade, on average? I don't know where it's headed, but electric vehicles are not maintenance free. If anything, they are more complicated and more expensive to repair. Techs will need to learn a whole new skill set for the future.

Flushing doesnt seem recommended so is there any value in doing a second fluid change after some short interval? Also, this tranny seems to be in several machines with different weights, engines, tunes and rear ends. The parts houses keep trying to pull for a 4r75e. My 08 Expedition has an issue where when you take off from a stop, under light acceleration, it shifts hard and quick into 2nd and sometimes when you go to give it gas to accelerate up to highway speeds, it feels like it’s dragging an anchor to get up to speed. I just put a new motor in it and new torque converter. What could cause this? It also turns over several times when you start it, from time to time.

Heard a bumping sound from the throttle body air intake sounded like gremlins inside trying to get out. My dealership has informed me that they cannot look at it until November! WTF! Sorry. The part that failed is on back order and the truck is stuck in their lot. I don’t have 10k to rent a car. Poor warranty service.

Results are same under load, normal driving and downshift. This all started after I flashed the PCM back to factory with the Diablo i3 tuner. Do I have solenoid hang issues? Great work !! You really know how to use the scan tool as an assist to help you verify a problem and solution.. Question- I own a 2007 Ford Fusion (original owner) and I have a weird problem. Left front turn signal bulb does not blink on-off when used. Instrument panel shows that during its self-check all exterior bulbs are good and signal indicator on instrument panel blinks normal speed. Bulb illuminates when running parking lights or full lights for night time driving. Ford dealer says its the PCM and would love to have $600+ to resolve. Any help hints you can give me? Thanks ahead of time.

  • @jeremypike9153

    @jeremypike9153

    3 жыл бұрын

    To verify they are correct you need to test at the bulb socket connector to see if it is pulsing with a test light. If it isn't then it's pretty likely that it is the pcm/bcm whichever is controlling the circuit. The control module should pulse a ground to blink the light. If it does turn out to be the control module you might try finding a used module the Ford dealer should be able to reprogram it to your specific vehicle. Makulco had a video showing how to do it. It's possible that the circuit could be shorted to ground somewhere between the module and the bulb as well. I see a lot of burnt/melted bulb sockets or connectors cause weird lighting issues.

    I have recently condemned 3 farm trucks that were all doing the same thing. I say condemned because they chose to send them down the road vs repairing them. People can say what they want about some of Ford's quality choices in the last several years & I would tend to agree with them on a lot of it but their diagnostic programs are 1st rate. All the Ford programs & system scans take a fraction of the time vs other makes, Chrysler & Toyota being some of the worst. I've seen a Toyota total system scan take over 30 minutes! As far as the TCC slippage is concerned, kinda makes you long for the days of AOD/E4OD. It's either on or off, none of this PWM half-ass engaged crap.

    Hey I have a bad situation....so I just bought a 2011 Expedition 5.4 3v with 202,000 miles in great shape...the engine sounded great at idle and has plenty of power. I took it for a drive a few days ago and the CEL came on so I pulled over and it was knocking and lots of valve train noise especially on the right bank...so I drove it home (about 40 miles) and started to change the oil (I used synthetic blend Motorcraft and a FL-820-S) I looked up the old filter and it had the WRONG FILTER on it!!!! It was a STP S10590....and there was metal fines in the oil and now the engine has valve train noise (slight to moderate singing/ticking noise) and maybe a slight knock but I’m not sure. What should I do? I’m so disappointed in people who don’t care for vehicles properly. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
