Great video. Thanks. I did use the gray part from the NAPA collection. I enlarged the hole with a 7/32 drill bit and self threaded the part onto the metal threaded rod. Then the male part fit in the hole snug. Worked great! Thanks again.

I just fixed mine using your video. My plastic piece did not break like yours, however it was crushed in at the point were it goes into the hole in the handle. I used a screw with a washer and that same exact phillips extension. I lubed and up and it is working like brand new. Thanks for the video brother! Super legit.

Thanks Sam. I fixed my car. This is the perfect video. I just want to add one information. The yellow and white clip in the door lock rod clip kit( video 7:17 )works. When I fixed my car I used gray one like your video. However I failed to drill it. I tried to visit dealer shop for the clip but they didn't have one. After that I just tried the yellow and white one. And it worked. I didn't need to use a screw to fix it. : ) My car is 2003 explorer sports. Just try the yellow and white clip before you use the gray one. If you are lucky it will work. Thank you again Sam.

Exact same problem. Exact same fix except I couldn't get the stud to stay in the handle hole either oh, and found that I was coming at it from the inside of the handle instead of from the outside with the little stud. Switch it around added the screw good to go! Thx for taking it so far And thoroughly! Made all the difference in my project.

Not trying to say this video is wrong or anything, by all means its a great video (because it is well made, very informative and extensive), but I actually fixed this same issue with a 4 zip ties out of a $3 Walmart pack of about 50 or so, in a lil under an hour. Its been around 2 months and the hatch still opens as if it were brand new. The zip ties I used were rated to hold (75 lbs.) so they were perfect for this application. Because of your well made video I was able to see the components that needed to be re attached before I even took my panel off. Thanks for uploading this very thorough video! Much appreciated!

I had to replace that piece every so often (months at the time), best way I found on how to fix it, is using expoxy putty, plastic weld (whatever you want to call it) is a 2 part putty that you mix and hardens like rock. I did mine with it and it has lasted me years.

they stock those clips at ford. they are about 5 bucks the other thing is its best to pop the clip in first then lock it on the threads also if im not mistaken you should have rotated that clip 180 degrees and put it in from the other side of the pull lever. the wrong angle will cause it to come out again if you didnt have the screw in it. great video tho on the tear down etc

Hello. I know you made this video approximately eight years ago but I was curious if you remember if there was a way to get the rear hatch open so that I could open up the plastic hatch cover? Unfortunately the lock/key mechanism is I believe stuck in the locked position and the latch that you press upwards has little to no tension in it. So basically I have no way of opening up the rear hatch to start investigating what’s going on. Any suggestions? ✌🏽

looks like a pain in the ass and then you are replacing a broken plastic part with another plastic part, bad engineering by ford

I mean, these cars are over a decade old. I don't think it's necessarily bad engineering. It's part of maintaining the car. If you really wanted to have better parts then you could do that yourself

If you are a 'do it your-selfer', than experience dictates 'time will tell.' I found this video to be very useful, as I have a Mountaineer with an inoperative hatch. I appreciate the candidness of the author. Sometimes a 'simple-fix' will not last. He is honest enough to admit just that!
