A lot of bands do that . It sharpens (or raises) the pitch a little. Then the same song live may sound a little flat even if they play it a little faster than the studio version. I think a lot of it is just little attempts at getting their own sound.

From listening to the song on the album, you'd never know that Cliff was pounding the living fuck of the strings. And then there's the end of the song, holy shit!

Gotta agree with Subliminalll here....I learned this song by watching videos of Cliff, by listening to the master bass track, and by playing to the song....it takes longer than looking up a tab, but in the end you improve more, and don't make mistakes in the tab.

Well, I love Geddy Lee, but I think they were more inspired by Geezer Butler, who had a dirtier and heavier style. Anyway, both are bass gods.

@TheBassoftheBeast He recorded Ride The Lightning with his rick. I don't think he recorded anything with his Aria, since he didn't have it at the time. Also - in the outro it's just another guitar track mixed in, since they couldn't find space for it. And he used a morley power boost wah pedal.

@Toony678 Yes, he is somewhat sloppy, but nobody before him played bass like this. It was very innovative. Before Cliff nobody played the bass that fast with guitar effects pedals and used the bass as a lead instrument rather than just low end support and time keep.

@JtK27 Cliff wasn't that sloppy at all; you have to remember that it's difficult to compare him with Steve, because Steve played with Clive Burr and now plays with Nicko McBrain, and Cliff played with...Lars. Yeah. Plus, James is a machine with the rhythm guitar, so anybody sounds sloppy compared to him. Although I did read that in MoP, they recorded James's parts before Cliff's, so he played over those and the drums.

@bullshitproof He is using a Wah pedal (not sure witch one), a big muff distortion box and some heavy reverb. That should make it sound like him (: He also uses some effects he has on his Aria bass. As example, the outro.

yeah, but generally, people who use tabs (Im reffering to most young guitarists), when they use tabs, they just go all, "youre playing it rong, im amazing cos this is the way they play. Besids. Some players prefer playin in different positions then the guitarist does. Saying youre amazing becos you play it like the pro means youre just a non creativ copy-cat.
