For ONE TIME Only..! HST's Rescue Stricken DELTIC..!!!!

Very rare move that is unlikely to happen again! Who'd have thought that a pair of HST's would be sent to drag a Deltic back to Barrow Hill if you'd have considered that a few years back!
See RailAdventure pair 43468 & 43480 arrive at Burton Wetmore Sdgs to collect Deltic 55009 masquerading as 55013 after the loco had mechanical issues on last weekends railtour.
The HST's couple up to the Deltic before a few photos from the depot staff and driver before heading off north back to the DPS workshop at Barrow Hill.
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

It's interesting seeing the Class 43 power cars acting as a twin-unit locomotive. I don't know if the two Rail Adventure pairs pair up in different combinations, or whether 43468 and 43480 stay together all the time. There are videos of the four of them hauling Merseyrail units on the WCML. These trains were topped and tailed by the two pairs, the trailing pair idling. As the journey to Barrow Hill was a 100 tonne load, the second power car seemed shut down, which would have saved a good few litres of diesel, and well within the capabilities of the leading power car. When the Class 43 came out nearly fifty years ago, it was regarded as inconceivable that they would be used as locomotives, although many years ago, the Railway Magazine photoshopped a single power car hauling a train of mineral wagons! Fiction becomes fact?

Although I think that a double pair pulled the GWR sleeper once when the 57 broke down and when the 91's where being tested they were used but i don't know if it was Mk 3 or Mk 4 stock although they were really acting like DVT's in that role and I don't know if they powered the train at any point?

They were in full revenue service with the 91s for a short while. Initially just as DVTs (engine on idle for ETH supply). But apparently they didn't like running like this so were used for traction power too. So a set of Mark IIIs was powered simultaneously by an HST car at one end and the 91 at the other.
