For Forever (Ben Platt) | Dear Evan Hansen (2021) | TUNE

Фильм және анимация

Evan Hansen (Ben Platt) tells the Murphy family (Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever and Danny Pino) an imaginary story about his supposed friendship with Connor in 'For Forever'.
What is Dear Evan Hansen (2021) about?
A screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Tony, Grammy and Emmy award winning Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect films) reprises his role as Evan Hansen, an anxious, isolated high-school student who's aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social media age. He soon embarks on a journey of self-discovery when a letter he wrote for a writing exercise falls into the hands of a grieving couple whose son took his own life.

😂😂 first of all, Platt is a 30 year old man, and no one can relate to a 30 yo man who knows what he is doing is wrong, and someone no one can relate to. the only reason he got casted was because his father was in the production team. second of all, he sings like if he were crying and singing at the same time.

You know what's sad? This musical is all about social anxiety and mental health, and people are so focused on how he looks creepy that they fail to see the deeper meaning behind the music. I went to hs with ppl who looked far older than their age. Ben played this role perfectly. I was lucky enough to never have to deal with social anxiety or depression (depression hit when i was older) in hs but he played the part so well that I felt his anxiety through the screen and music and only a truly talented artist could do that.

Respectfully, just because something talks about an important subject that doesn’t automatically make it good or well made. Ben Platt’s a great performer but even despite the make up, his performance really isn’t appropriate for a film adaptation especially when you look at how everyone else around him is acting. The screen and film and two different mediums and I don’t think he really differentiated the two during this entire movie.

I absolutely do not understand those people saying that he looks old or that he looks cringey. A) he is older but we all know that 16-year olds have been played by 25+ -year olds since the beginning of movies. He does not look distractingly older in my opinion, he looks very in place. B) HE IS A KID THAT HAD TO LIE TO GET EVEN ONE PERSON TO BE THEIR FRIEND! It is absolutely realistic that he does not look 100% like your typical teenager. Evan Hansen would be a weirdo if he existed and not a cool weirdo. If he looked cool would he have to lie to get friends? Nope. We can see that as the story progresses and he gets some more confidence he stops looking so weird. Ben's depiction of this vulnerable kid is incredible. His performance is superb both vocally and as an actor. Without Ben, this movie wouldn't have been the same.

But the audience is able to go easy on him since he's supposed to be this mentally ill and naive teenager who didn't think all of this through. He isn't blinking because he is outright lying to Connor's family. For Forever is a song about a friendship between Evan and Connor that doesn't exist. End of May or early June This picture-perfect afternoon we share Drive the winding country road Grab a scoop at À La Mode And then we're there An open field that's framed with trees We pick a spot and shoot the breeze Like buddies do Quoting songs by our favorite bands Telling jokes no one understands Except us two And we talk and take in the view All we see is sky for forever We let the world pass by for forever Feels like we could go on for forever this way Two friends on a perfect day We walk a while and talk about The things we'll do when we get out of school Bike the Appalachian trail or Write a book or learn to sail Wouldn't that be cool? There's nothing that we can't discuss Like girls we wish would notice us but never do He looks around and says to me "There's nowhere else I'd rather be" And I say, "Me too" And we talk and take in the view We just talk and take in the view All we see is sky for forever We let the world pass by for forever Feels like we could go on for forever this way, this way All we see is light for forever 'Cause the sun shines bright for forever Like we'll be alright for forever this way Two friends on a perfect day And there he goes Racing toward the tallest tree From far across the yellow field I hear him calling, "Follow me" There we go Wondering how the world might look from up so high One foot after the other One branch then to another I climb higher and higher I climb 'til the entire Sun shines on my face And I suddenly feel the branch give way I'm on the ground My arm goes numb I look around And I see him come to get me He's come to get me And everything's okay All we see is sky for forever We let the world pass by for forever Buddy, you and I for forever this way, this way All we see is light 'Cause the sun burns bright We could be alright for forever this way Two friends True friends On a perfect day

SPOILER ALERT: This scene used to make me so angry that the quiet awkward kid could lie to this grieving family’s face and be so manipulative. I didn’t care what the excuse was or how socially anxious he was. But then I read a comment that really made me rethink this entire scene: that a young teenager who was suicidal reimagined that dark moment as Connor being there and helping him up instead of feeling so alone in one of the lowest moments of his life. That made me pity him, truthfully.

This scene sounds great and is acted well by Ben. He's a very talented actor. It's just the hair and makeup. I wholeheartedly believe if they styled him to look like he did in The Politician (a great show btw) it would be far less distracting. Or, just make it an animated movie and have Ben voice Evan. There is so much untapped potential that could be found if they made animated Broadway adaptations. Still, I am one of the few people who think this is a pretty decent adaptation. It's not perfect. It has some glaring flaws, but it's still pretty faithful to the stage show (and yes, I've seen the touring cast).

It's really not. He's really not. The only statement that the Murphys fill in details about is the orchard. You could call that some mixture between shotgunning and the Barnum effect, or you could just say, "He panicked and made a lucky guess". You know, like it says in the script. It's also kind of *the point of the whole dang musical* that Evan creates his own version of Connor instead of trying to glean information.
