I feel sorry for Karius. I don’t think he’d ever be as good as Alisson, maybe he’d be as good as Kelleher. But I really feel sorry for him, as a Liverpool fan and as a goalkeeper, it’s really shame that those mistakes came in the champions league final. If that was in some league cup or just a league game, I’m pretty sure everyone would go easier on him

@@inferno890 i play it at a high competitive level and there are tons of leagues here in the bay area of California with mexican players. All these good quality players are also surrounded by some questionable influences. For instance, i brought a player into my club who said he was top quality. He didnt last an entire match because he was fatigued from partying the night before. It also doesnt help when players show up late to matches and dont warm up. I get it. It’s sunday league. But you still got high levels of competition in it. Basically this mindset affects every facet of thousands of mexican footballers week in and week out in both high level and casual levels of the game.

As someone from Costa Rica I cant help but mention Joel Campbell he joined Arsenal at the age of 19 even rejecting a move to Man United and after several loans he was playing in Mexico at the age of 27 and now at 31 he’s back home. He was brilliant at times like in the 2014 World Cup and had some decent loan spells at Betis and Olympiakos.

The one player that always come to my mind when similar lists are made is Mario Balotelli. He had his problems outside and inside of the pitch but he also had the potential to be one of Italy's best strikers of the 21st century. He was a beast on FIFA 14 as well.

I really remember him only for the memes from the match with Germany and that assist to Agueroooo. Can't remember anything else from him and if he wasn't meme legend, maybe we would have forgotten him till now. He is way more famous just with the memes and all the problems around him, then with what he did on the pitch.

This was before my time but Sebastian Deisler was seen as Germany's new big talent in the early 2000s. Injuries and severe depression destroyed his confidence. I think he retired in his 20s while at Bayern saying "I don't have what it takes. This life isn't for me." I think if the weight of expectations weren't as immense, it would've worked out differently. "I was 19, 20, when the Germans believed I could save their football on my own." - Sebastian Deisler

He likes to have the freedom to roam, drop into the middle of the park, play long balls, and carry the ball in and out of the wide spaces. Who else does that? The one and only Lionel Andres Messi. They could never work in a system together. Had we signed Coutinho after Messi left, I think it could’ve been a massive success. Messi needed out and out wingers, and unfortunately (for both parties), that’s never been Phil :(

12:41 “we’ve all heard the audio so it’s baffling he’s still playing” is it? is it really? what do you think actually happens in that audio? not raping her that’s for sure. he pressures her for sex and gets angry when he can’t get his way but that’s not the same as actual rape. not to analyse a crime too much but you can rape someone without saying anything. and in case you didn’t notice he was suspended for 18 months and is widely hated. it’s not like Thomas Partey where the allegations came out and he just carried on playing like nothing happened. I’m not defending him but people are having their emotions swayed by that audio too much, he doesn’t rape her in it, that’s the fact. we actually don’t have evidence at he raped her at all. the images are more damning actually, because he’s obviously hit her. but to say it’s baffling that he’s still playing after that evidence came out - it actually isn’t, you just want to maintain a pure and idealistic view of football that these types of characters aren’t in it. footballers are not role models - they are stars, which is an important difference. you don’t have to be a nice person to succeed in football. you just have to be good at football. everyone wants to pretend otherwise but the Greenwood case just shoved it all in our faces that that’s not true.

And Alejandro Papu Gomez although peaked after 29 and won world cup with Argentina ruined his career. His combination with Ilicić at Atalanta BC was epic until he disrespected Gasperini and now is banned for 3 years from football after drug test. Got himself early retirement.

Maybe not all of them are applicable, but I can think of a number of other players who didn't necessarily reach the peak they were anticipated to reach: Andy Carroll Yoann Gourcuff Zakaria Bakkali Hachim Mastour Jese Rodriguez Alen Halilovic Jorge Valdivia (the Chilean Ronaldinho) I think it's also a matter of time until Guendouzi joins that list.

I think an interesting topic for another video would be players who got their careers ruined through no fault of their own. And I don't mean cases like Roberto Baggio or Marco Reus who despite all the odds had great careers and we just wonder what more could they achieve with functioning bodies (Baggio would have page-jacked the Matrix I'm sure). Just heartbreaking stories of complete failure (although it may be a bit depressing)

Imo I wouldn't say Giovanni ruined his career, he went of his own volition to la galaxy which, while definitely not at the same level as Villarreal, was one of the strongest clubs in north America at the time, asides from the fact that Los Angeles is both close to his birth nation of Mexico and has a significant Mexican population, which I'm sure were significant factors for the signing (as well as, of course, the wages). Footballers are humans too and sometimes it makes sense to lower your level. Glaring omission in my opinion would be Karius, who in 90 minutes went from promising talent to laughing stock

@@Vizeh Considering what happened to wonderkids of a similar level who went on to be massive flops (for example Ravel Morrison) I'd say he had a pretty damn respectable career as a key man for both club and country. Regarding his exit from football at 29, I'd guess that is probably related to the injury that he sustained at America, and while a shame, it is unfortunately a part of the sport
