Football Fundamentals: The Different Types Of Receivers

Спорт

Recently during the 2018 NFL Draft Process I've been asked several times why certain teams are looking at receiver a vs receiver b, and what makes one more of a fit over another. So I decided to make this video to answer some of those questions.
We'll start with the basics: Different types of wide receivers.

Great and very informative video. I would love to know stuff about other position groups as well. Especially for Linebacker, D-line and O-line. Thank you for all that you do. I follow you closely from Denmark on the other side of the Atlantic.

good question.....most famous Saint receiver Eric Martin or Marquez Colston? Funny both were 7th round picks.

Colston. I remember Eric Martin very well, but I am kinda old. Fans under 30 probably don't know who Eric Martin is...lol

Thanks, Deuce. This will be really helpful for my mom. While she never fails to watch games, the texts I get from her during the game (about a certain position the announcers may mention) drives me crazy. lol I want to help teach her basic concepts, but it's not feasible during the game or on text. It probably would have been even more helpful had you used all Saints players as examples. Also, I'm sure I'll get a text on why there is not a pivot route listed on the route tree. A CB/NB/S vid would help, too

The routes listed on the tree are the "basic" routes. Each route can have it's own little wrinkles in order to fake the defender out. In this case the wrinkle is the pivot and the main route is a quick 3 yard out. You can see this with stuff like the "Stop and Go", it's not a route per se, it's a receiver faking a comeback or hitch to lure the defender into jumping in front and then taking off for a Go or a Post.

Like the video, moore of these types would be great. Q : would Keke Coutee be a flanker or slot guy? He's interesting cause he can be speedy, take the top off / deep routes, though supposedly he needs experience with route tree.. Would seem to be a difficult guy for some defenses to pin down, I'd think S.Payton could use him to stretch the d on posts, also good YAC on slot routes? Thanx, 🎯🍺🍸

I think you should do more of these for different positions, for instance you always say “1 tech 3 tech” when referring to lineman, I’m pretty knowledgeable of the game but I have no idea what you are talking about with that

  • @barondeau4495

A 1 tech vs a 3 tech is about where a Defender lines up on the line of scrimmage. They are like the gaps, a, b, c, but for the defense. A 0 tech, is where you line up right on top of the center, a 1 tech is in between a guard and center. Odd is in between Oline. Even is lining up on the player, so a 3 tech lines up in between a guard and Tackle. I think the widest tech is 9, it used a lot by the 2019-2020 DE for the 49ers, where you line up on the outside of a tight end of the line.

I have 3 questions: 1. How would you label a weak side split end receiver on the line and a strong side split end receiver on the line at the same time? 2. In college I often see the X and Z play behind the line while two inside receivers play on the line. Not sure what the advantage is there but how would you label those 4 receivers for that particular formation? 3. What letter typically denotes the Slot besides ‘Y’ since that letter is already used for the TE? To avoid confusion Thanks for the video

My first day of organized football and my coach says: I want my split ends over here and my flankers over here. I’m like: excuse me coach, where do I go if I’m a wide receiver?

5'5 120 is big for a 3th grader, small for a 9th grader. Ultimately, if you're a bigger receiver who can win most 1 on 1 match-up, play the X. If you're biggest and can block, play TE. If you're the fastest, play the flanker. If you're the smartest or shiftiest, or have the best hands, but not a lot of height or speed, play slot.
