I don't know if it's confirmed that the passenger initially wanted to be let off the bus, but if that's the case the driver should have let him off. The person the driver was shooting at was next to innocent people. Yet the driver continued to fire not caring if he hit an innocent person.

I worked as a city bus driver for 5 years , the worst job I ever had , not job itself , but dealing with thugs , drunks and junkies all day long … never again

He may have lost his job, but he's alive, so im grateful. This situation shows exactly how little employer’s value their employees and how little their lives matter to them. Jobs like bus transportation can be dangerous, and the companies should offer training in lethal defense.

I mean the bus did go onto the pavement and had somebody been walking on it at the time it could have been very different. Not blaming the driver, he could have been shot and killed had he not fired. Fair play to the driver if he saw the road and pavement clear and made a smart decision to let go of the wheel.

I was a bus operator for 2 and a half years. The way he was able to control a commercial vehicle. And be involved in a shootout. Is beyond me. That isn't easy to do. Very difficult on so many levels. I hope the driver is doing well. After this incident.

Yes, but not just "any" employee should be allowed to use a gun, I know a lot of fellow gun owners that I wouldn't want to be anywhere near should they need to defend themselves, as I am sure just about everything but the threat will have holes in it, including me. If they are in public service, by which I mean, they work around members of the public, like a bus driver, then they should have to qualify to the same firearm proficiency standards as the state police in orde to be able to carry. By flat out banning weapons, then potentially untrained employees are going to be running around with guns. If you give them a path to carry through training, then less chances you'll have random employees carrying, and the ones that do carry are trained just as well as the police, making sure the public is better protected.

@@underarmbowlingincidentof1981 Somethign is very wrong with the nation being unsafe, but since we do have so many guns out and about, people do need to be able to defend against those guns, if they chose to do so, with proper training. Until the crime rate drops down. Not saying Bus Drivers and stuff in every city should be armed, but in certain cities where gun violence is high, Chicago, Houston, etc, then yeah. Now, teachers, are a different story, they should be able to take the training to use a firearm, and keep it locked nearby, just due to the insane rise in school shootings.

@@infinity3jif I'm all for being allowed to defend yourself. This video is highly edited for sound, and skips some time. However if you look at the 10 second mark, the driver flashes his gun. He, and this city better get ready to be heavily sued. Dumb, just dumb. And this litte edited snippet is all were allowed to see, but once again, it proves there's usually much more to the story than the tidbits they release. With the gun, the #1 thing, and the hardest thing, is to keep your head, and do the SMARTEST thing. He did not, and is not without blame. He's lucky he didn't kill anyone on the sidewalk or wreck the bus. Fortunately for him he didn't, but he's still got problems.

Good for the bus driver for protecting himself. I'm tired of seeing innocent people becoming victims when they are just doing their jobs. That bus driver will be reprimanded and fired and I'm sure he doesn't get paid enough to deal with those type of crazy people. Someone start a gofund me for him so that he can give that dangerous job up and recover from his gun wound.

Maybe a raise and the healthcare part, I'm not sure defending his life warrants a medal and a key to the city, considering it was just him and maybe one more passenger. But for 100% certainty what I can say is he deserved his job and he didn't deserved to get fired for what he did! America is really going to hell with all the Anti-Gun Nuts, that just because you used a gun regardless if it was justified or not, the Justice System has to do everything to destroy your life!

Opened fire outside the bus into the general direction of potentially anyone nearby. Failed gun safety 101 = think before shooting, this definitely applies once the immediate threat is lessened. If you think I'm "too much" wait till you see wtf a lawyer can do to you in a court room counting down a scene by the second. If in your self defense your round ends a childs life nearby guess what, game over for you.

I understand the driver was afraid for his life, but, he blasted away indiscriminately. The Bus had other passengers abroad and not only that, he popped a few more off outside the bus. He should have just handed the money over if he was about to be robbed. Instead of putting innocent members of the public in danger. Its not the wild west.

This shows why weapons should be allowed to be carried by operators of these vehicles. If he hadn't been armed we probably would be watching a video of a bus driver being murdered by a thug. You should give this man a raise, and his job back.

I got fired from my cab company for doing the same way back when during a robbery attempt...I don't expect bus drivers to bite a bullet for thier jobs, either...got no prob with what he did. Self-defense isn't something you can only do at home, and it's time for all Bus drivers, Taxi drviers, etc to be allowed to do so on the job.

Except for the part where he shot at innocent passengers, repeatedly, like when the suspect was crawling over them trying to get away. I live here and with the nuances of our self defense laws he's lucky to not be getting charged himself with that reckless shooting. Idk abt the veracity but it was reported locally that he locked them all in there and wouldn't let them off too which is what started the whole situation and shot at them again while they were trying to open the door. If it was me on that bus and that man locked me in and shot me while trying to mag dump into someone already running away I'd raise hell and want accountability. Both the driver and the suspect were an issue.

That was clearly a man on a mission to finish the bus driver, thank God he was able to defend himself

Those were some damn fast reactions and some damn fine bus crawling.

Well done sir. Situational awareness was on point. You should be rewarded for your efforts to keep the area safe from thugs.
