I would consider myself a Mcdonalds fan and as addressed at 0:16, the boot nugget is supposedly a favorite. The boot also happens to be my favorite because when flipped upside down, the protruding piece of chicken can be used as a handle when dipping. I hope my opinion has shed some light on the reason that Boots are the public's favorite shape.

I worked at McDonald's back in the 90's, while I was in high school. In the freezer I would see the boxes of the McNuggets and it listed the ingredients. I never counted how many ingredients there were in them, but I was surprised at how long the ingredient list was. The strangest ingredient I remember seeing on the box was Alaskan Cod. Never could get a straight answer out of anyone why fish was one of the ingredients to the McNuggets.

I guarantee the chicken McNuuggets from the 90s were less healthy, used real meat, but more fattening compared to the chicken McNuggets served in the 2000's! I recall there was a point where the nuggets seemed more artificial, factory produced and didn't teste as good as they used to in the 90s! In their attempt to make them more healthy, they lost some of their delicious flavor! after they changed them, I switched to Wendy's nuggets instead because they use real meat that doesn't taste artificial!

Semi-related side note: Do you remember those "healthier" potato chips that came out around that same time period that were fried in Olean (something like that) that have a bunch of people the Hershey squirts? I think it was right around the time that fast food switched to vegetable fryer oil; maybe a few years before baked chips came out.

I do wonder what does contribute to the longevity though, I’m a second gen American raised by my Italian immigrant family and the youngest death we’ve had was 84 from dementia, everyone else typically lives from 97-110, and it’s been something that shocks my friends quite a bit (my one grandfather born in 1914 and living til 99) so I wonder what does cause it. Perhaps all of the walking and labor? (I only say this because my family runs a lot of agricultural back in Italy and a lot of close cities are like New York where it’s built for walking or short transport trips), any thoughts?

Don't look at calories, that's misleading garbage. By the by, 96% of nutrition labels lie about calorie content, and often, the label will be plus fifty to five hundred percent more than actual calorie count per serving. Why? Mainly because calories are inconsistent, and the calorie content of a good is usually measured at preparation, not before packaging, after everything is done. Calories are not thermally stable. A baked cookie will have less calories than the prepared raw ingredients. How much less? Ranges anywhere from one tenth of a percent to eighty percent (though anything past sixty percent is probably going to be setting off your smoke alarms lolz). So, instead, look for the primary ingredients (the first five to ten), and see what they are. That will be your 'healthy' determination.

I still somewhat like their nuggets but the thing is, they're always selling a very large quantity of them for very cheap. The chicken isn't of high quality and has a lot of additives. I'm not a massive stickler for those things per se, but I do raise an eyebrow every time I see thosr 20 or 40 nugget deals for dirt cheap. They used to have their buttermilk tenders a few years ago, which were made to order (I always had to pull up and wait for them). Those were absolutely delcious, especially with their ranch dressing. You could get them covered in barbecue sauce as well, but those to me weren't as good as just the hot chicken by itself and dipped into the sauce. Wish they'd bring them back because the nuggets are not nearly as good as those.

BMI is a tool that shouldnt be used as a silver bullet, it should be used in combination with many other factors. People may get overweight more easily due to genetics, poor nutrition, bad sleeping habits, stress, sedentary lifestyle, diet, environment etc. There are certain lifestyle choices that have no positive physical effect on your body like smoking, drinking, or doing recreational drugs. Also it doesnt help that the more convenient and cheap something is to buy, the less healthy it is (on average). People should avoid fast food as much as possible, but nowadays people are usually to busy to even learn and spend time learning how to cook. People may come from work too tired to go exercise, stress from our day to day lives keeps us awake at night. Weight gain simply put, is caused by a lot of factors, suddenly changing your diet wont magically fix it, but it will help.

I saw this episode originally, but KZread brought it back up for some reason. I had a 20 piece recently that, in NJ where before the pandemic was $5, is now $9 for the same product. I knew what I was getting into, or so I thought. The nuggets are now thinner, greasier, and less crispy. The product no longer hits that nostalgic feeling it used to. I ate the rest, and almost cried at the dissatisfaction of being unhappy with what I'd ordered. I've had vegan nuggets that work out better than McNuggets nowadays.

I was watching a documentary on the two ladies aka food nutritionist / scientist that created the "food pyramid". In it, they said the FDA literally turned it upside down. So what's at top should be bottom and at bottom should be top. They stated the reason was it would affect poor Americans the most while saving on SNAP benefits. They could create a "balanced meal" very cheaply, thus reducing the needs to provide food stamps at the expense of their health. They reasoned the average middle class American would continue to eat the "correct" foods as they could afford it. I doubt our government would ever jeopardize the health and well being of the American people, so you'd have to decide if these government employed women were liars or not.

In college I was part of a group that did research on the Mediterranean Diet. Studies have found that the foods in the diet lead to "reduced oxidative stress" (reduced being relevant only when compared to the modern American diet of mostly red meat and dairy) oxidative stress is basically what causes aging, it boils down to oxygen atoms causing damage to DNA in cells. Our cells have a lot of extra DNA to reduce damage done this way, called telomeres, and when those telomeres start to take so much damage that they become too small to protect our genomes, we start getting side effects of aging.
