Peanut Butter is now a liquid. Yes, you read that correctly, Loyal Theorist. That smooth, gooey, creamy peanut-y goodness is now classified as a liquid by the TSA. And that means you can NO longer fly with it on an airplane (unless it’s under 3oz, of course). But why? Why would the TSA do this? And will you never be able to eat peanuts, peanut butter cookies, or a Butterfinger on an airplane again? Let’s find out!

The reason TSA had to define creams pastes and gels separately, is because the average traveling public don't understand viscosity with fluids. I work in an airport and I know of three separate incidents where a passenger thought that their wine wasn't liquid because it's "a dry wine" and a passenger that thought their camera wasn't an electronic because they didn't buy it in the electronics section. I even know of at least one incident where someone thought water wasn't a liquid.

I bet we can’t bring our crunchy peanut butter because they are afraid that we will hide a smaller jar of *creamy* peanut butter inside it.
The TSA could have avoided this headache by classifying peanut butter as a gel, paste, or cream. That way, they could still get the restriction on it, and be accurate while doing so.

I suspect that the reason sometimes channels have their intros and sometimes don't has to do with when they were produced. There was probably some cut off point where they stopped producing videos with the intro, and the videos we do see with the intro are just videos that were produced before that time and are only just now being released. You could also consider that there's an experiment taking place to see if videos perform better with or without the intro.

Just a note from a materials science and engineering major (MSE) about the claim at 4:45 that the particles within a solid are unable to slide past each other: the particles (atoms), or in some cases molecules, that make up a solid are able to move past each other under certain conditions. This can more or less be exemplified in the phenomenon of mechanical deformation (elastic and plastic); there are other MSE principles that allow atoms or molecules within a solid to move past each other, such as diffusion in alloys and viscoelasticity in polymers, but mechanical deformation is probably the easiest to describe. I would encourage you to look up mechanical deformation in solids and stress-strain curves if you're interested in learning more.

Would you rather create a new category or classification for every single item that didn't fit squarely into the solid, liquid, gel, categories? And then have to create new rules/polices and limits on every single new category that you created, all at the same time trying to teach this insanely complicated system to bunch of new hires praying they don't screw it up, or that they care enough to not screw it up? Technically I have 100% peanut peanut butter every time I grind my own peanuts at the store. All the machine does is grind whole shelled peanuts. Absolutely no water or any other ingredients are added besides the nuts themselves (I get plain store ground peanut butter so not even any flavouring is added). The nuts themselves have enough peanut oil in them that they are able to become semi solid just by the grinding process on their own. So the TSA is literally should classify a bad of shelled peanuts as a liquid too, as they contain all the ingredients needed to make liquid peanut butter.
6:15 by that definition I think that butter would coins as a liquid

As someone who's flown frequently, these terms like "liquid" from the TSA have never really been too confusing to me and I think their provided definition is very SOLID Maybe It's only an American thing to categorise them differently, but whenever I've gone through security at an airport they define cream, spreads and liquids all under liquid

This is actually a field of products I have expertise in, as I work in end-level peanut production. I'll watch and add any thoughts here: 1. The viscosity of peanut butter can vary quite heavily, depending on how much thickening agent is added. I've have various ones runnier than a smoothie.
