    My vote is for Chankonabe, a Japanese stew designed for sumo wrestlers. Lots of protein, lots of vegetables for vitamins and minerals, and lots broth to help with water intake. Even with a strict recipe it's got pretty much everything. Plus if it's a survival situation it's perfect for a body building on a deserted island.

    "Can You Stay Hydrated From Food Alone?" would be a good theory. All marine mammals get water purely from food, and I often wonder if that would be possible for humans, considering that there's many vegetables and fruits that are over 90% water, such as lettuce.

    Yep, the “8 cups of water a day” is for total dietary consumption. Most people get enough from their food, but since we still tend to get thirsty, we _do_ sometimes need to supplement. Of course, supplementation is super easy, right?

    @@MV12267 The whole point here is that it’s not “liquids”, your daily water intake is often covered by things we presume to be solids. The dietary requirement is about _water_ intake, coffee, tea, soda, etc all work only because they contain water. While fit-for-consumption 99% ethanol isn’t going to be all that effective, because the vast majority of the liquid is not water at all, but ethanol.

    My parents in their younger days did grow up basically eating only sweet potatoes every single meal. (It was the only food that could be easily mass-produced in their part of the world) The only variation was basically roasted, steamed or mashed sweet potatoes. No meat, very little rice, the only vegetable was sweet potato leaves. They did manage to live through the difficult few years though yes they are quite a fair bit shorter than I am

  • @kadenze6176

    @kadenze6176

    2 жыл бұрын

    current scientific understanding is that aftertaste is simply the taste of the molecules after all of the chemical and physical interactions are mostly completed. remember that your mouth is full of mainly water, amylase and lingual lipase all of which will do organic chemistry things to the food inside your mouth. then when you swallow the more sticky stuff (stuff with stronger intermolecular forces or charged ions actually bonding to the inside of your mouth) will be left behind, and your taste receptors will begin sensing those things instead of the wine and fish you just swallowed. don't drink wine and fish, it smells. anyways, yes, there have been breakthroughs in chemicals that can block the taste receptors sensing these specific aftertaste-making molecules. however if i'm being honest the only real cost effective use for it is in really disgusting medicines that need to be prescribed to children; a lot of the pharmaceutical engineering behind children's medicines is making them taste nice.

    I think "not too hot" is a comfort thing. Some people have less tolerance to higher temperatures. I certainly can't drink most coffees from coffee shops because it's way too hot, and need to wait at least 5 minutes for it to cool down. If it's cooler to start, you can drink and enjoy it sooner

    There is another factor to consider when looking at foods you can eat all the time. Regardless of nutrient density is a phenomenon i've heard called "food sameness" where if you eat the same food too much, your body can start having a visceral reaction to that food. Like if you at that Veggie delight every day, you might start feeling sick when you try to eat it. It is definitely a factor you have to consider. You would need to pick a food that you make prepare in many different ways to change flavors up while also maintaining the same essential nutrients.

    While Spinach has a ton of iron, almost all of it is part of other compounds which make it very difficult for our bodies to convert it to a useable form. I think this is the one tiny thing missing from this video is the biochemistry and bioavailability of these compounds, it is not just a matter of relative proportions but if the nutrients is even in a form that is already bioavailable or is more bioavailable after metabolizing it.

    @Kevnev Katfute I mean he did state that this video was just going to be about ticking a box, because there is no way to know what relative proportions things were in. So I don't think it was forgotten per say, because in a lot more of the breads and tortillas and meats, those nutrients would be available, but the spinach and other raw vegetables should be something where bioavailability would matter more. So I don't know if an addendum or asterisk notation would be optimal. I mean I know videos like this take a lot of time and research, and it really easy for one detail like that to skip through.

  • @AdleisioCefnforDolphin

    @AdleisioCefnforDolphin

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@scarxiett2998 I mean it is easy for that sort of detail to slip through only because of how many times the nutrition community has touted how much iron spinach has, but that is just looking at raw values after processing it down to measure it. And I would assume the scope level of this video would have made it a lot more challenging if the need to account for bioavailability needed to be added. I would have not expected a full breakdown of the biochem involved, but maybe like, "these are nutrients available for use" versus "it contains this nutrient"

    Would a soup in a bread bowl count as a food you could eat every day of your life while still providing the vitamins, minerals, calories, protein, and fiber the human body needs to function properly? Because essentially you could create any soup you wanted to achieve the proper nutrition the body needs while providing some hydration from the liquid of the soup. there's an easy food that combines most of these: a Dutch dish called "stamppot" (the Belgians call it "stomp") consisting of potatoes mashed with spinach (or kale, if you're into kale for whatever reason.) It should check off most of the nutritional boxes, the main ingredients are potatoes, milk, and spinach (or kale) and it's both tasty (serve with vinegar and a little nutmeg) and easy to make.

Pasta, lasagna, burgers, sandwiches and most foods do aswell.

There is also a boba hot pot that can act as dessert. Bugs are living beings that need the food humans need to survive so they pack a lot of proteins and vitamins. Suppliments are a last resort because I think that they can check off all the needs but don't fill you up and some of them have to be taken hours before or after other suppliments.

But that type of food Its got grain, meat, and vegetables, and sometimes dairy (if you go with the Cali roll which has cream cheese) almost all the food groups just not fruit (not that i know of) And if i had to pick what i wanted i would pick: Tuna, carrots, avocado, nori (seaweed), roe (fish eggs), and cream cheese (just to check off the dairy box), and ofcourse rice. Now that just what i would pick if someone wants to be like "what specific ingredients?" But if i want a food that has a vast variety that i could never be tired of, Sushi.
