He reminds me of my brother if he was there when i was growing up, giving me random facts, theorising pop culture with me and of course the witty banter every gtlive feels so comfy. Of course it would be weird if i thought of matpat as my brother, i dont, but he brings me a type of comfort that i used to get from my brother.

    I actually met a missionary (now retired, he is in his 80’s) who told us about a time when he was put into prison and left to starve to death. The wardens let the prisoners keep one item to take with them and he chose his genuine leather belt that was gifted to him by a close friend before he left. He said a lot of people chose the Bible to take with them but he had already memorized it so he didn’t need it. I can’t remember how long he said he was in there but he almost ate all of his belt before he was set free. At first, he chose it out of sentimentality, but it ended up saving his life. Lots of other missionaries didn’t make it.

    I think it would be fun if he did a more open version of this episode, of what in your house could you eat? could you eat tooth paste? could you eat paper? could you eat soap? if you have an "ornamental" plant, could you eat it? ( a plant that isnt used for food) can I eat candle wax? etc.

  • @derekeastman7771

    @derekeastman7771

    2 жыл бұрын

    If your plant is both real and non-toxic you can eat it. The nutritional value isn’t going to be great, and it’ll probably taste about like grass, but calories are calories. Toothpaste shouldn’t be swallowed, so that’s a no go. Paper isn’t toxic, but I doubt there’s much in there that’s worth eating. Pretty much we make food out of what’s edible and everything else out of what isn’t. Also wouldn’t recommend soap, even if it isn’t toxic it’s just a chemical in water. No calories or nutrition. Candle wax is also just a chemical, wouldn’t recommend.

    Paper is cellulose. Tooth paste... Has chemicals you don't really want to ingest and is mostly stuff for cleaning plus grit. Soap is a terrible idea, altering the surface tension and viscosity of the water in your guts is a bad idea unless your goal is to have the runs. Plus it emulsifies fats which would make it harder to digest other actually beneficial substances. If you had beeswax, that may be an option. I don't know enough about the chemical structure of it. Candlewax though... Fairly certain that's a bad idea but again, don't know enough about it. And I'm too lazy to look those up. And most plants that are ornamental are largely cellulose. Might be able to eat the root, bark, seeds, or sprouts though, depending. Honestly, you'd be better off eating wild plants. There's plenty of edible options out and about, less so in your house (besides what was made to be eaten).

    Weirdly enough, my 7th grade history teacher let my class watch a recreation of cannibalism during westward expansion(I think?). The group got hit with an unexpected snow storm, and the people ate their food rations; then the horses, babies, children, women- until only one traumatized man was left. A pair of travelers then stumbled along him, seeing bloody snow, clothes and bones everywhere. That’s all I remember, and I don’t know the title of it.

    Theory Idea: Can you just survive on vitamins and supplements? In your spinach video you mentioned that at a certain point you would get more nutrients from supplements. Even if one can't solely survive on supplements, what's the minimal amount of things one could eat while still being in perfect health? IDK just a fun thought! ^_^

  • @rebekahthelin2238

    @rebekahthelin2238

    2 жыл бұрын

    From what I know about nutrition, you wouldn't be able to be perfectly healthy if you're not getting enough calories. Anytime you're in a negative energy balance, meaning you expend more energy than you're consuming, you're going to be losing weight. I'm not sure exactly at what point that weight loss would start negatively affecting you, but, it would essentially eventually start looking/acting like starvation. Just vitamin supplements don't have calories, which are just as necessary to bodily functions as vitamins and minerals. Though, I would be interested in seeing the difference between complete starvation and starvation with vitamins. The Minnisota Starvation Experiment found some interesting data on how vitamins affect starving people, so if you're interested you should totally go research that! It's neat! :D

If you are somewhere cold and you are shivering all the time, youll burn way more enrgy then if you are somewhere with a warm temperature, and light breeze. If you are going to be needing to get firewood or do extra tasks other than wait, i think your correct. Maybe do a food theory on how you could have also survived in the area around Baba Yaga's cabin- I find it odd that there's nothing to hunt, and after a long rain, I'd assume there'd be shrooms or bugs living in rotting trees, or worms buried in the ground under trees. Even finding a rotten carcass or bones could be used to create some manner of stock. Finding one mushroom, you could also use that massive dark, damp basement to grow mushrooms, etc. Obviously, a sign the main character is evil/possessed is because they mislead or discourage obvious actions, preying on the survivor's cluelessness about survival and trusting nature. They probably could have left at any time, or left together- but stayed behind out of fear of the unknown.

In one of the infamous pictures where they're smiling in relief that they had been found and their harrowing fight for survival on the top of a frozen and snowy mountain was over, you can actually see a human spine and tailbone in the bottom right of the photograph.

He cut it into mouth sized pieces with a saw and swallowed it with a lot of sparkling water. And, believe it or not fellas, he died of old age with 78 years to his name.

    Well it’s not too uncommon, my grandpa once knew a World War II veteran he was trading fire power against the Japanese soldiers one of them got the tail of his plane he crashed his plane on an island before he parachute he went to the island to survive,the island was deserted he stayed there for two months he had bad luck trying to get food during the first week after his Little supplies ran out so he was desperate enough he boiled his boots and I think my grandpa said he also boiled his belt he Funny thing is he made a mischi pot by hitting a part of the plane and bending it while to put water in it and boiled his boots and his belt what he told my grandpa it was the worst meal he ever had in the Air Force until he found a wild pig, doing spearfishing with a makeshifts spear and hunting for fruits like bananas coconuts and surprisingly he found some dragon fruit I did ask how it taste because I never had dragon fruit he also found a few pineapples my grandpa said after he stayed two months on the island American chip came by and picked him up I mostly saw the tail of the plane sticking up from the sand like a flag or two spot it for passing ships after he was picked up he told The commanding officer on the boat take me home boys, I want a steak and a bed! I wish I would’ve met the guy he did sound pretty funny Now my grandpa is going on in his ears he’s having trouble with his liver I hope he’s doing OK Maybe it’s nothing it’s survival worse back in Vietnam war Also I’m sorry I got excited my grandpa told me a story similar like this but less theory how to cook a boots
