Greetings Shawn: I want to share with you and the other gardeners a tip I just learned from a lady in Iowa. Her frost date starts September 1, so now she is cutting off tomato vines that are producing flowers. She said there is no way that tomatoes will grow sufficiently before the first frost hits. She cuts the stem down to just above any tomatoes. She said that this gives the plant the energy to ripen the remaining tomatoes, and gives the plants more light, I will do that with my tomatoes this year so there aren't any green ones at the end of the season.

I collected some crab apple seeds from Northern Lake Michigan to grow as root stocks. You can graph a pear to service berries. Got some rowans from mountain ash too. The rose hips are huge this year. I like pole beans they produce till first frost which looks to becoming early this year in the U.P. Strawberries and asparagus do well together. Our blueberries did well. Been working on growing native fruits and berries this year. I want to plant some hazelnuts. Been using ferns for our hugelkultur beds. We plant our garlic and onions where the ramps grow. Figure that's where they would like to grow.

Raspberry, Strawberry, cucumbers, Tomatoes and squash did well in 5b zone. A lot of work but a lot of fun and knowledge.

You can eat the leaves and the stalks of the pumpkins and squashes families. It has got good minerals. Rub the leaves if it is hairy. Then shred finely. Sauté with garlic ..prawns etc.. or add it into broth .. add eggs, carrots and tomatoes.. Or coconut milk broth. With meat or chicken and some chopped coriander and chillies. Can add. Nasturtiums flower too into the soup. Cali is as ever loving dog..❤. Btw potatoes maybe try plant in the bucket container.. easy to manage... 👍🙏

You may be too far north for raising good peaches but RELIANCE DWARF and Fingerlakes SH (Super Hardy) Dwarf both survive winter down to 30 below F. Reliance ripens the second week of August and Fingerlakes SH about Sept 1 to help spread out the harvest. I had a good harvest of Reliance this summer and a poor harvest of Fingerlakes. I don't freeze or can so I give most away.
