My son and I was supposed to spend the summer learning this song. He was a drummer and I was a on guitar. My 12 year old son Tristan Van Lu passed away on 3/22/23. He was the best drummer I have ever met, he was my hero. I rocked this song out at his funeral, it was the last time I will ever touch a guitar again. Played until my fingers bled my boy!. I love you so much my son, my best friend I will never forget you and will never stop missing you my son....

This song was played at my friend’s funeral. I only knew him for about 5 months. We met at uni. He passed and his family invited all the uni friends he had. For some reason I got really emotional though I barely knew him… this song will now forever remind me of the amazing person he was, an extremely bitter sweet end.

"There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes..." That line. I will never listen to that line the same ever again. The lose of Taylor Hawkins, the drummer and the beating heart of Foo Fighters, was truly tragic. No matter how good of a replacement they may find, you'll never really be replaced. He was an ordinary man to some, but a true hero to most. Rest in peace, keep on rockin' Taylor.

  • @hihi2667

Hawkins didn't even play drums on this song, grohl did. I absolutely agree he was a crucial component of Foo fighters for as long as he's been part and dave might not even try to replace him, he might just quit music as he said Kurt's death almost made him do. But Foo fighters succeeded before Hawkins, it's not like John Bonham where his death absolutely caused the cessation of the band because he was a key component of the bands success from its inception.

Hes literally is just embrassed and thinks it's tacky he wrote it with Kurt in mind initially. It kinda grew when he found he was able to apply the meaning to other people or heros he knew. But I've read from magazine articles and statements from guys who worked with Dave in the studio and they all say they know it's about Kurt they kinda just don't talk about it. Nevertheless Dave has admitted it to several people "off the record" no pun intended. To me that makes the song even sadder cause he's so humble and it's so personal to him he can't even admit what has long been suspected anyways

For some reason I felt so drawn to this song and video while I laid in a hospital bed, after having narrowly escaped death. I was a frail and sick man. And I looked at all the nurses and doctors around me working so hard and just shook my head wondering, “How do they do it?” “Why do they do it?”. It’s like they were superhuman or something. So smart and so driven. Then I kept watching the video, from such a unique perspective. A more out of body way of thinking about it. I saw humanity as a whole and through a multigenerational vantage point. Especially after the part where he says “Don’t the best of them bleed it out, while the rest of them peter out”. We’re all gonna die one day. How are you gonna live while you’re here? And also, it’s about helping to further life and the human race as a whole and making this a better place to live! Thank you to all the paramedics, doctors and nurses that saved my life so many times! Edit: I think the answer to “why” they do it was shown in this video. And I think they/we do it for love ❤️

You never see his face, he doesn't think about his own desires or safety but helps others regardless of risk. No one hadto ask for his help. He doesn't ask for recognition or glory. He might look "ordinary" as Dave sings "He's ordinary!" But honestly, he's anything but ordinary in today's world. This is what heroes are. They are not flashy or attention seeking. This is yet another reason why I will always love the Foo Fighters.

I think it's not that he's ordinary, but that this is the kind of action that SHOULD be ordinary. If more people were like this, they would be commonplace heroes. Still worth praising, but all around us. It's idealistic, but imagine how much good could be done if every other person were like this.

I just had to put down my 15 year old dog down 2 days ago, my father told me how that dog saved my life when I was a toddler, I was fishing with my dad but I ran off walking alongside the riverbank and that dog stayed with me making sure I didn't go into the river, that river was deep and just plummets down to a steep slope so if my little legs went in I would have been swept away and drowned easily. But that dog saved me and nudged me each time I tried to go in the river. My dad looked for me and watched this miracle being performed, today this song reminds me of that, too bad I couldn't play this at his burial.
