I think as long as the bottle cap is tight without any gloop around the neck and it’s kept out of direct light nail polish can last forever. I still have a bottle of rimmel black cherry polish I had in high school - 1996!!!- and it’s still good. It’s my oldest bottle so it’s kept for the nostalgia.

She even did her hair like how since of us as young girls did with what we (or at least in my corner of the US) called twisties. Also yes, I've worn butterfly clips on my hair too, both the small ones and the large ones with the moving wings. The thing is, now the clips are back and I'm loving how the trend is back for other girls to try too. There's even a dark version I saw along the other Halloween hair accessories at my local Walgreens (a chain drug store for those that don't know what it is. Not sure if there are any in Canada). The peel off polish is something I definitely remember since I used to wear it on rare occasions during my childhood too! We really did go a long way with both how we paint our nails and nail art! Thanks for this blast from the past 🥰💅🏼

He still has it now. I think eventually I got one of these (a more modern version I think) at a scholastic book fair, which he was not too happy about lol.

I used to use an old dried out skinny marker as a brush to do this kind of nail art. I'm talking about using the marker to dip into the nail polish and use it as a brush, not drawing with the ink. It works so much better than a toothpick for the fine details.

@@toomuchiridium No, it's definitely a dried out marker. It was a skinny marker with a thin tip. I would pour a small drop of nail polish into a plastic soda bottle cap and use it sort of like an artist mixing palate that I would dip the marker into. This way, you can kind of control the thickness and taper of the polish lines the same way you would control that with a calligraphy pen. I used it to do tiger stripes on my toe nails and I used to get so many compliments. It looked totally professional.

@@toomuchiridium No, I tried ink once and that was a big mistake. I colored my nails with a blue Crayola water based marker, then put some glitter glue on top of that, then covered it with clear nail polish. This was when I was a kid, 20+ years ago. I did the first two parts at school. It looked great at first, like normal blue nail polish with a glitter top coat. But when it came time to remove it, that was a problem! The ink left deep blue stains that were impossible to get off with nail polish remover. I ended up having to sand the stains off with a nail file. Never again.
