I had the same problem you had with Priory with the Night Angel Trilogy. It was the 10 year anniversary and they made it into one long beautiful book… but it was such a brick to lug around and then in the middle it was near impossible to hold it open to read. I would have to sit it down to read cause my arms and wrists would hurt from holding it open. It was definitely a two handed book, no casual one hand holding. Also, still patiently 😅 waiting for you to read What the River Knows.

Priory I remember being so obnoxiously proud of lugging around when I first read it at school- I reread it this year on kindle (a lot easier on the wrists!) and agree with you on how some of the book could have been shortened or more fleshed-out.... if you still want to try long epic fantasy I recommend The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson, absolutely incredible), or the Grace of Kings (Ken Liu, asian-inspired fantasy, also one of my absolute faves) Tress of the Emerald Sea is definitely v different to Brandon Sanderson's general style but I loved the light-hearted writing personally! (Reading it right after Manacled also helped me enjoy this even more as a great contrast after all that darkness :)) On the topic of Manacled... ever since you read it and sparked that curiosity in me I've fallen into the fanfiction rabbit hole whoops... but honestly some of the HP fanfics are as good if not better than published books I've read, and that they're free makes it even better (especially for my wallet :))- On that note I highly recommend Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Falling in Love for a dramione slowburn romcom (super witty and fun)!

  • @jaimefok

LOL there was definitely some strange feeling of pride lugging around that book for sure 😂 I’m definitely working my way through Brandon Sanderson and will for sure get to way of kings at some point! I did LOVE the writing style of Tress, it was honestly a 5 star for me for about 150 pages, and then I just got bored of it lol. But I do appreciate it for what it is! And YES I’ve heard of that fanfic- I haven’t felt the itch to dive back but when I do, that one is for sure at the top of my list!
