Thank you for not doing the typical bass demo of speed slapping for 10 minutes. :-) It's nice to actually hear what the bass sounds like and not just how fast and slick you can jam. It's great that you're using different playing techniques and are demonstrating the different pickup and active/pre configuration!

What is the pickup placement? Standard P, 60's or 70's jazz?

Good question. I think it's uniquely it's own spacing. I've never measured the exact dimensions, but I believe the J pickup is a little closer to the P pickup than historical spacings.

Never understood the price point of these basses or any boutique bass. How do you justify a $5000 price tag or more for a few hundred dollars of material. I could understand a price tag of up to $2000 but after that i'm lost.

It's all relative. A Squier guy would say that a $1000 bass is over priced. Are orchestra musicians insane for spending more than $2000 on their instruments? Many players pay more than that on their bows, and travel cases. Truth is that most musicians are willing to pay more for a top quality instrument. However, everyone has a different definition of what "top quality' is.

My ONLY criticism of this model is the fingerboard's all rosewood, rather than ebony & maple.

Oh, do you know why some basses have zero frets? I hear its supposed to be like a brass nuts but there is more to it than that.

  • @BassClubChicago

Tone, mostly. Every other fretted note is between two metal frets of the same composition. The first fretted note is between a metal fret and a nut of different composition. A purist would tell you that generates a note with different tonality than the rest of the fretted notes.

I also here that it's supposed to help sustain but idk if that's true. Also, some people say that action tends to be lower with 0 fret but is harder to adjust and others say it helps stay in tune slightly. Do you know if any of that is true? Is their any problems getting the bass intonation if it has a zero fret? can you use whatever gauge strings you want on a zero fret?

  • @BassClubChicago

I know customers to use their Foderas for that. You're starting with a very good quality of tone with the Foderas, and they are also very versatile. They are best for bright modern tones, but also get articulate passive tones as well.

I had a Guild Pilot bass years ago with EMG PJ pickups with 2 volume and a passive tone roll off. A battery was required because the pickups were high impedance. That might be the case here.

The guy doesn't have good knowledge of the bass he's demo'ing. The switch is an EQ bypass switch, not an active/passive switch. The pickups are always active.

no, active/passive means powered or not, the pickups are always being powered by the battery. dont believe me? take the pickup out. if the bass is truly passive it would work.
