Victor is a magician. His number one trick was turning all my basses into firewood. Seriously, there are musicians that can inspire you to play all day long to get better and then there are musicians that make you look at your instrument and go 'What's the use?' For example, I could listen to Jaco and play without sleep for a week til my fingers bleed, totally inspired. Then I listen to Victor and it's like -- ohh, lookie what I got - a hunk of wood with strings attached. SIDE NOTE: I was very fortunate to meet Victor twice. Unlike many idols we may bump into in life, he was totally humble and down to earth. Not an ounce of ego in his body and incredibly generous towards his fans.

I don't care about what people may say or think. But I watched a dozen more of live versions of him playing this tune and if there is one thing I will always appreciate is that everytime he reaches that rhythmic section after a minute or so, everyone shout in joy, and start clapping in their hands which proves it's natural, it's inherent , it touches something inside your heart . No matter who you are , no matter where you are in the seats in front of him, when he starts to play, you feel compelled by something in the tune, it instateneously make you feel joyful and rhythmic . Jaco was a great bass player and very technical in his style. I have listened to Victor and he is great. It is very hard to say who is the best simply because styles are so varied. Jaco was a much cleaner sound bass player because of his technicality. there is a video on youtube with Vic playing with Jeff Berlin, and you can tell the difference in players. Jeff is much more precise.

Here is what makes this video very special. It holds the key to harmony between people of differing worldviews. I'm assuming these guys studied up on each other before this was made. Mike knew that Vic is pretty "new-agey" and Vic knew that Mike is very fundamental in his Christianity. They both love the bass and that hymn. In spite of very different worldviews, Mike gives Vic a platform and neither guy disrespects the other. They enjoy what they agree on and leave the rest out.

I heard that when Victor plays, the Heavens thump because God taps His foot on the downbeat. VICTOR IS THE FUNK MASTER OF THE WORLD. Only Papa Jaco was more technically gifted.

Craig Hancock Jaco wasn't nowhere near the best.He was skilled as fuck but his overall playing was kind of lame.Victor has more skills then Jaco ever could come up with boy you need to learn what a real true bass player sound like and stop judging one by it's skin color.

Craig Hancock Any fool know you're not BLACK because only white boys brag on Jaco.
God is still good
An amazing master. Love hearing him jam. Inspirational too, makes me want to pick up a bass and learn.
This guy is a genius. He is the reason I bought a bass guitar! All of Me Jah Cure Bass Cover
The gift is having the drive for hours and hours of studying and practice.
Just look at his face the whole time he is playing, he just absolutely loves it. It makes him so happy, which makes me happy.

I thought that the speaker was very polite and honored Victor appropriately. Gave him great exposure and .support as a fellow musician.
can't believe I've never seen this. thanks for uploading
He is such a happy player....he rides the groove!
Fantastic stuff from a fantastic musician.
these are one of the bass players that encourage me to take my playing to a next and more importantly....love what i do!
Victor ability to play like that IS a gift for God himself. God give us all gifts to use it to his glory. Some just use the gift for other things and ways. So, it is a God giving talent that Victor is just borrowing for a while, until he can use it no longer.
The feels... My god. What an amazing musician.
never thought I'd be thanking Mike Huckabee for anything!
I can watch dis again and again
This will ever be evergreen....

never heard it put so well, Lanre.
He plays so well and so melodic. Those Dr custom strings sound sweet!
Mr. Huckabee rocks.. and so does Victor Wooten..
Lifting with my ears, eyes, and heart open to land, As his harmonics direct my hairs to stand!
How is that audience not going nuts? That was intense!
My mouth open itself when watching this guy playing bass. I'm impressed
This is wonderful. A gift from god indeed.
To, co widzę i słyszę, to jedna, wielka, zap...jąca na basie RADOŚĆ! Miód dla duszy.
My friend took bass lessons from Victor... he said he would go over to his house, Victor would be watching TV, eating some Ramen noodles and showing my friend stuff all at the same time. haha. He is amazing to see live with his brothers too.
Newport News Va, in the house!!!! MAGA
bending a harmonic, how does he think of that stuff

3:58... Ohhhh This is the BEST explanation i've heard... The best ever.. of all explanations!
What's that I hear? I think it's music. My ears are very happy! Victor has a lot to say. Long live Victor Wooten!
'The best' is a matter of subjectivity/taste, but he's definitely one of the best.
Incredible, something truly above.
God gives us the gift, but its up to us to master it!
Oh my god, that line at 2:26. Incredible.
there was a bass player who preformed anazing grace at my best friends funeral in september. i camt stop trying to remember it. thought this might refresh my mind a bit.. it kinda did but nothing can bring it back yanno :(
@DissolvingTime Music should bring us ALL together no matter what color we are.
i can't stop watch his videos..
It is a gift from God! Didn't you hear? He saw God the other day! And so did I! :D
You are no doubt absolutely the Jimi Hendrix of bass guitar awesome job my friend
Milewskige: Thanks and Godbless for uploading this video. :)
Very good way of looking at it!
Without "Christian/religious" music, a lot of music that exists now would never have existed.
youre a big inspiration man! thanks
Any Bassist must recognize Victor, therefore Mike is a Bassist. LU Vic!
The best. That feel is just unrivalled, even his mistakes sound good.
The perfect bass solo for today. Happy Easter!
Grande Wooten. Siempre iluminándonos con su grandiosa música.
This is just amazing
This guy is something else! I thing what I can do this good.
This guy is so sick and funky. Definitely an inspiration to every musician. And Victor Wooten is great too! But seriously; thanks for posting, looks like I'm the first person to find this...
Harmonics on bass genius ! Very amazing bass playing
wow wow wow !! wooten is the best alive !! hands down !!!!
what a groove.... such an inspiration...
when that groove kicks in theres nothing better
One of my favorites!
Victor is one of three bassist that make my jaw drop: John Patitucci and Stanley Clarke are the others. I love what Wooten said regarding instrumental music being open to personal interpretation. I suppose that's why the majority of what I listen to emerges from genre.
Excellent!!!!
What an awesome bass player. He is a legend
Vic, you are invincible.
My bass does not do that. Maybe it's lazy😂
Great playing.
Great player. He autographed my p bass at a show some years ago.
This is so ammaaazing.
I wish a choir sang along to this version which would make it even better.
Wow, some people miss the entire point of this piece. Its about the MUSIC not petty politics. Terrific job Victor, I'm looking forward to hearing more from you on whatever format you choose to visit.
