Focus MK1 - Has your Reverse/Fog Light stopped working?
Another blog in the world that is MK1 Focuses... this time I look at an issue only few are aware of until the dreaded MOT day and it fails. It can be sorted very easily :)

Just popped in to say massive thanks 🤗 My Ford Focus is a car near and dear to my heart and I make sure to take care of it. Your video helped me to replace reverse light today. I had to get rid of some of the corrosion before it started working. As a woman I have to say being interested in the car you drive got me to a point in which I don't pay for certain tiny and some not so tiny repairs, light replacements etc. And it's very rewarding being able to fix things on your own.
If you have a multimeter, out it on continuity mode ( with the buzzer), an d test the bulb holder. If the bulb and the holder are fine, its probably the reverse light switch which is also a common fault at this age. Cheap and easy fix at £15 and a 22mm spanner .
My mk2 suffers with this issue too, actually caused an mot fail for a previous owner. Good info here.
I believe aesthetics and functionality were chosen over visibility and reliability with the reversing light :p If you need to reverse down a dark driveway into a narrow garage (like I have to, every day) or park close to a curb at night, it actually illuminates the area you see through the side mirror pretty well. (Mine is on the RH side 'cause it's LHD)
We have a 2002 Focus 1.8 Tdci (115) in silver with just 53000 (we have owned it from new) 10 years ago we took it over to Spain and re registered it there for a new life. Really the only thing that failed in that time was the reversing light, but as Spain don’t suffer from rain 😂 it was the switch not the bulb holder. This beautiful old girl is still a joy to drive. Ps In Spain the reversing light IS part of the Mot (ITV)
Make sure you have a belly cover fitted we had a mk2 2009 focus a stone hit the revesing switch on the bottom of the gearbox and well it dropped the fluid unbelieveable
my mk1 2.0 zetech. estate..rev light is in the clusters which are on the sides above the bumper...bulbs only gone twice in 7 years
You didnt put a link in for the parts, as you mentioned at
Hey, here I am again.
I drilled a hole in the bottom of the reverse light as it was full of water. Fog light has always been of,not sure why.
Yes same set up on my mk2 they still put the lights in the back bumber
All my dashlights and instrument lights stopped working.
A faulty reverse light is not an MOT fail on MK1 Focuses. Only vehicles first used from 1 September 2009 are tested and this rule didn't come into force until the MOT changes in 2018.
Why did you bin the rear arch liners ?
in the start you tested the reverse but in the end you showed the Fog light but not the reverse
Not yet :)
Stops working quite often, actually. :-) The reverse light, that is, NEVER the fog light, curiously enough...
