It just amazes me how the little one knows what they need to do on any animal that I've watched being born it's God's work

Nugget did awesome. She needed a bit of help with that final push to get the shoulders out because she is a young momma but Nugget seems to adore her filly.

Most beautiful thing I have seen in years. Last time I saw a birth, I was a bit hands on as she was a breech birth. Both mom and foul were healthy. The first few hours are scary, but once mom is up and foal starts nursing, let nature take it's course. Thank you so much for this insight.

Lovely to watch! And I'm so glad that you didn't barge in to help right away! That was a pretty big foal for such a young, small mare. It's hard to imagine that baby and its legs folded up inside little Nugget! I really appreciate the gentle, respectful way you handled this birth.

Wow!! I was SO worried for mom!! she looked like she was in such pain! I thought she might die ? I was scared for her! growing up first book I had in my hands was old farm vet book showing pictures how baby horse should come out front feet & nose first= & also showed other pictures where baby is in trouble with front legs right head back 😬😳 & also pictures feet first I guess breech? & how u gota help or the baby will die! Maybea mom too??? - but I've BEVER seen this in real life WOW!! you had to help her! - I thought I wouldn't be able to hack watching? But I couldn't stop was worried for both mom & baby so glad they're both ok JR YOUR AWESOME!! To know what to do! I would not have known how to help them other than knowing correct position of baby should be being born in - WOW THEIR BOTH OK IM SO RELIEVED ! THANK GOD - hmmm? Baby girl name suggestion?? Something Gold-ish? Or Spring?? Pattie?? (Great grandfather vet then a doctor & great grandmother was a midwife delivered babies by horse & buggy) that's where the old book was from 🙂👍🐴❤️ - (I do much smaller animals dogs birds turtles prarie dogs)

Yes, we were worried to for a bit. She had a hard time for second there.

Maybe something simple like Honey and Ginger or something like Ms. Fancy and Princess Diana. 😃 She is absolutely beautiful. Just some suggestions. I don't have any, but I love horses.

Yes, I’d have to go back and look at the sites name. I don’t remember it off the top of my head. He is GORGEOUS though.

I would have thought that the udders would have dropped down farther to make it easier for the foal to nurse!

Horses don’t get large bags. But yeah Nuggets bag didn’t get huge. It has changed a bit from the foal nursing and her milk coming fully in though.

I have always thought that mare’s were standing up to give birth🧐Poor mama Probably won’t be running with the studs again after this🤪. Was happy to see JR to give some assistance for a large foal and a young mama. Wise advice from JR hit home. My grandson stopped breathing when the umbilical cord was cut as it was his only provider of oxygen. He had transposition of his hearts great arteries and coded. 9 lbs and had his first heart surgery at 12 hours old. Sadly I saw his oxygen level of 27 💔but he is still a joy🥰.

I am not a horse owner and am definitely not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m wondering why you didn’t have Nugget in a stall with a good cushion of hay while she gave birth instead of a hard cement round pen with mud everywhere.

This is just a dirt floor. And it’s WAY better for a mare to have room to move around then be confined to a stall. You don’t want to confine them like that. They have to be able to move, walk, adjust their bodies etc to get their foal out,

I’d have to look up his name. He wasn’t our stud. A beautiful buckskin stallion though! So gorgeous.

If it was a wild horse she would have gotten pregnant during her first heat. As long as mom is happy and healthy. I was watching another channel they have a mare who can't be ridden and they bred her. She is sound enough to carry a foal, but not to be ridden. She's 2 and will foal after her 3rd birthday. While that might not be the case for every breed or every horse. It can be done. Not sure how old Nugget is though.

You could name her after grandma.

Goodness, the poor mare’s living conditions are pretty Spartan and basic! A little straw and comfort wouldn’t go amiss, especially when she’s giving birth. Such a cold, hard floor 😥
