    So I'm gonna say this to everybody, including those in the back regarding today's review on the FN 509 Compact tactical, and it's poor performance and design principles. If the shoe fits and you think I'm addressing you, then I am. With all do and only properly applied respect, if a compensator and a little finish wear is enough to kill the effectiveness of my magazines...... MAGAZINES....... Which if you think about this for even one second you should feel completely inept mentally for suggesting that some wear on a gun and 9 magazine bodies with under 5 thousand total rounds on it is somehow wore out...... Then I don't want that handgun, I don't care what the excuses made for it are. If it's a glock, it's expected to run no exceptions, matter of fact every time one studders regardless of circumstance, people who don't own them make perfection jokes knowing it'll run as expected all day..... but just gotta get that jab in because their one time to take advantage of a failure to fire or whatever has come. This trainwreck of old design mistakes and bad magazine construction is supposed to be better than that, so my standards don't change..... Especially considering that I have more than one glock with over 50 thousand rounds on it, (one of which was run half the time with a compensator) this is absolutely unacceptable for a Pistol that's supposed to be better than that glock and is often times touted as better..... Use your thinking thoughts next time and quit making excuses for the failures of products made by people you don't know. The thing failed and the reason it did cannot be rescued or explained away like it didn't happen. Deal with it.

    I've owned 4 FN's in total. 1 FN 509 MRD C, 1 FN 509 Tactical, 1 FN 509, and a FNS-9c. I have never experienced any issues with any of them at all. They are tanks. The magazine issues you all experienced surprised the hell out of me. I ran my tactical in USPSA competitions with who knows how many rounds and only God knows how much dry fire. I have found them to be great guns and would highly recommend them. This was a very interesting video.

    New to the channel, subscribed and liked. If I may give my two cents in this review. The FN509 C Tactical that you have is the compact size, NOT the midsize. Yes, I understand it belongs to one of your students, so it's all good. Also, this gun it's a bit busy, it's got a lot of bells and whistles, because it's the tactical model. The manufacturer understands that in the event that you get hurt in an engagement and your hand or arm is out of commission, that you can still operate all the controls (ambidextrous) of the firearm with either hand, or if your hand is bloody, the stippling on the handle helps your grip. The other point I wanted to make is that all the magazines in the FN509 Series are interchangeable with the different size 9mm, hence the sleeve on the 15-shot on the magazine, which on the midsize FN509 you wouldn't have to use it. I like this gun, I've done a fair amount of searching on the net to learn as much as I can about it, that's how I came across your channel. It has some known issues with the striker breaking and some other issues. Not sure if this is from the early production runs or what. The good news there are two companies that I know of that sell replacement strikers, and they're super easy to replace. Thanks for the video, I did enjoy it and I also browsed your channel to watch some of your other videos which I enjoyed and learned from as well. Keep up the good work and sense of humor!

    Every time I handle my fullsized/4" barrel PDP back to back with my base/fullsized 509 I think, "man I like the PDP better." The lightweight, awesome trigger, excellent ergonomics, etc make the PDP a gun worth owning. Then I shoot them back to back and realize that the 509 is easily the superior firearm. The 509 is easily the most accurate (or easiest to be accurate with) striker fired/poly gun I've ever fired. I don't care what people want to complain about with its trigger, but the gun is accurate for more everyone I've seen shooting one, and it shoots flatter than most. I don't care what some of these gun channels say, PDP is not a flat shooting gun for a fullsized 9MM. It just isn't. PDP is very lightweight, has your typically German highend feel to it, its ego's and trigger are some of the best there are, but it flips that muzzle up more than more 9MM's, and in all honesty it's not an accurate gun for most people I've seen shooting them, or nearly as accurate as you think a gun as nice as it would be. I have never shot any handgun so off as I do a PDP. ( We're talking a lot of handguns from 3 different centuries and different sizes in my 40 years) The adjustable rear sight doesn't have the range to bring the muzzle up to hir within 4" of where you're aiming at 7-8 yards without intentionally aiming 4-5" high. I replaced the oem sights replaced with some aftermarket G19 sights, and while much improved I still don't shoot it as well as pistols like a Glock/M&P/any given CZ/509/VP9/etc. I want to like the PDP as it has a lot of desirable things about it, and I've tried to work with it, but I can't make it shoot as accurately for me as most any other modern competitor to it. Honestly everyone I've let shoot both my 509 and PDP, rails on about how much they like how the 509 shoots and how easy it is to shoot it well, and they're typically less than impressed with the PDP.

  • @boomee78

    @JROC734 first of all how is your grip becuase a stock glock shoots flatter than a 509 or pdp i have had fn 509s since then came out and the fn 9 series before that. But flat debate or not the return to target is exactly the same if not better on the pdp. It sounds like you probably need to change the backstrap or get a better grip

  • @JROC734

    @JROC734

    Жыл бұрын

    @@boomee78 the PDP shoots in no ways as well as a 509. Not in terms of aim accuracy, not flatness, not follow up shots. The PDP shoots like a Glock .40 S&W with better ergo's and trigger, but less accuracy. If PDP was as nice a shooter as a 509 then with its trigger/ergo/weight it would be the best SD 9MM there is, but it's not an accurate gun other than on the internet, and it's like, "why is it this bad?" If it's me then I own a lot of handguns, and I shoot none as poorly as I do a PDP. I've talk with people in person who make the same claim. They aren't impressed with how well their PDP shoots. I don't want to hate the gun. I spent $600+ dollars on it before adding aftermarket sight. I wish it was the bomb shooting pistol. Maybe a dot would make it great, and I've thought about throwing a DPT on it if I could find one, but the oem trigger is already great, and I mounted new sights on it, and I'm tired of throwing money at a gun trying to make it work when most any other gun I own I shoot at worst, acceptable. I don't want to Apex up my 509. It's trigger isn't sexy, but it's decent, and I use it just fine, as I do a hinged M&P trigger, or Dagger trigger. I'm past the days of spending $150 on an aftermarket trigger for poly/striker fire pistols. Aftermarket striker fired gun triggers will never turn the gun into one with a trigger as nice as even a lowerend 1911 trigger, so just learn to work with what the factory gives you. Maybe do a little polishing if you wish, or if a trigger offends you that much then don't buy the gun. Or buy the gun, and spend a lot of $ modding a plastic handgun trigger to only be mediocre better than the stock trigger. The fact that I even entertained spending $180 on a DPT shows how much I want to like the PDP. I'm all for a nice aftermarket trigger on AR's, AK's, hunting rifles, CZ75's, 1911's, etc. I'm just not into spending money modding a gun that's never going to have an awesome trigger. Again a stock PDP trigger is at least as nice as any aftermarket Glock trigger I've used meaning it's very good for a striker fired handgun. BTW the smallest PDP backstrap works best for me. Most pistols I prefer the middle backstrap, but PDP is the exception. I can't agree that a 509 has more muzzle rise then a 9MM Glock. My CZ75 might have more muzzle rise than my 509. I'm not a FN fanboy. I bought my 509 in 2019 because PSA had it for sale for $410, and I thought that was a good price, and in store I liked it, but never loved it enough to pay within $100 of full MSRP. I've got 1911's, CZ75, Glocks, etc that I've owned 3-4x's as long as I have my 509. I hype and defend the 509 because it's thoroughly impressed me. I ended up liking it way more than I thought would. I've been a CZ fan for 14-15 years. I prefer a 509 to a CZ75 or a P10. That's how fond I've become of the 509. Yes it's way more topend heavy than a comparable Glock or a PDP with a 4" barrel, but that's likely one of the main reasons it stays on target so well. When I'd look at a 509 I used to think, "why the hell does this gun start at roughly $100 more than it's competitors other than maybe VP9?" After having shot it a fair amount I realize that I perform better with it than any other modern full-sized grip/4" barrel pistol I've tried out, and maybe that's why they command the $ they do. I would say that I shoot it as well as I do a CZ75, I shoot it better than I do a 9MM Glock even with a longer barrel. IMO I would have to step up to a decent 1911 for me to out-shoot myself with my 509.

    I ow the FN509 LE3, the actual LAPD gun. Only modifications were switched to all black night sight for NVG use, Trijicon RMR type 2, and a factory threaded barrel and occasionally mounting an Omega 9k. Now with 1000 or so rounds of suppressed and non suppressed shooting, I have had zero issues. The LAPD tested the gun and one of the major police departments that actually test their weapons for duty use similar to that of the military. The only things that concern me is the hydra lock issues and yes that magazine locking point is very small.

    Agreed with everything you said. "compact" isn't a pistol with a 20rd or 30rd magazine hanging out the grip. Compact I think is more meaning to fit in tight places like pockets or similar. Any size and weight loss is added and exceeded by a giant light and really long magazine w/ 3x's the ammo capacity. Not to mention the stupid reflex sight that snags on everything and needs to be cleaned constantly. Take a standard double stack .45acp w/ 10-14rd capacity and practice using your gun hand to aim quickly w/o using aftermarket sights. With a .45acp round center mass shots from 10-25 feet and you are dropping whoever gets hit w/230gr ball ammo. Then increase distance. .45acp was created by Mr. Browning to improve the stopping power of .38 special . A caliber police carried until the late 80's and early 90's in large numbers. Get good with a pistol and quick aiming by ditching the added reflex sight and go by your index finger line. Oh, FN makes the worst, hard to manipulate slide release. Why FN? Why? HK45 compact is a better compact . 45.

While I agree that Sig should know better, going off of running lawsuits is no good way to determine reputation here. Every one of the big manufacturers has gotten dinged at some point.

    I owned a 509 not long after they were introduced. Thoroughly unimpressed. Sold it off. No thanks to FN pistols for me.

    Don’t like the 509, the grip size is insignificant, if that’s all you got to talk about. C’mon man.... you do great reviews but this was pushed out so you can post something. Do better bruh, we know you

    I bought one after seeing 6 fns9s get the absolute shit ran out of them and none had issues. The 509 was really the next generation. Plus i know a dude that was part of the guns development and he spoke highly of it.
