If Edward had killed Kimblee, Pride wouldn't have absorbed Kimblee's soul, resulting in Ed having his body taken over by Pride in episode 60. Yes, showing mercy can get you into trouble and may even cost you your life. Still, it's better than the alternative.

It's also why Kimblee respects Edward's convictions. When Pride cries: "He'll kill me!" at the end, Kimblee responds "If you think that, then you still do not understand Edward Elric".

This is the first anime show I've ever watched, and man, I picked a f*cking amazing place to start!

By far one of the most painful scenes in FMAB, Ed sacrificing his own years in order to heal himself so he can help everyone else, such determination from this character, this deserves to be a masterpiece anime. Thanks for uploading, peace✌🏻️

I love how this show forgets pretty muc *No One* neena had such a meaningful death. Even though she was there for one episode, the mention her a lot and show flashbacks and everything.

I love the fact that it's Edward's mercy that gets him into this precarious situation, refusing to kill Kimblee - but it's the very same mercy that allowed both the Chimera to live, and save him. Not to mention, all the good they end up doing down the line too.

I really loved how Darius and Heinkle became good guys here. They ended up being pretty damn vital later on and they were never really evil to begin with.

It's really amazing how after this scene Ed suddenly grown a lot and seemed much more mature. I was always wondering why did he suddenly changed so much within a year but rewatching it I realized that this scene is the reason. The years that he sacrificed basically caught up to him. It's fucking amazing how much detail did the manga's author put into this work.

I dont think that is the reason, i presume if you lose Llifetime your healthy ages will be shorter and then you die a couple of years sooner but it doesnt modifies your growing up process. Puberty just hitted Ed like a truck in a good moment xD

Karamanga Plus, he would've bled to death anyway if it was just removed. Anyone who is medically trained knows being impaled with any object (arrow, sharp poles, etc.) you need to carefully trim down the object first and then be ready to stop the bleeding immediately. Lol also he would have to transmute it into something else, it wouldn't just disappear.

The atmosphere we breathe has about 20% oxygen (O2) and 80% nitrogen, along with additional trace elements such as argon, CO2, and methane. So no, he cannot transmute a steel bar into air.

I know this scene is suppose to be gruesome and gut wrenching, but I found it adorable when Ed's little hair thing moved xD

The funny thing is, even though Edward payed the price of being impaled due to his mercy, he gained two allies in Heinkel and Darius who were both allies on The Promised Day. Arguably, Al wouldn't have survived the fight with Kimblee and Pride if it weren't for Heinkel, so this one act of Mercy could've saved the world.

I would've just let myself die. But not Ed! He's got a mission to complete and no stupid come-outta-nowhere mineshaft pole is gonna change that!

And that's why this is my Favorite Anime of all time.

Who had chills down their spine after watching this? Vic Micnonga put a lot of character to even SCREAM in pain as if he was in pain. Making this by far the best I've seen in the franchise.

You can almost feel the Metal being ripped out of YOUR OWN BODY when watching this. Also, that ending where it fades into the ending song is so smooth! Song's awesome too, and the song while Ed transmuted his wound was cool too. Brotherhood had a killer anime soundtrack!

This is honestly one of the best dubs of all anime. I usually watch sub, but fma has really put in the work and effort into making this an amazing and truly talented dub.

This scene always makes my stomach turn. Imagine the pain he's going through. Then you realize that Ed is practically still a Kid. Man, why must these Anime characters go through so much.

i love vic. He's a great actor and he also sings. He's an awesome person. I love FMAB and FMA.

Bradley WAS human. And he was the most inhuman human in the military. If you were referring to Bradly because he's a homunculus, remember, he's a homunculus-controlled human, just like Ling/Greed. Human Body, Homunculus controlled. If you were referring to Bradly cause he SEEMED okay.....remember, he was the most evil of the bunch. When Hughes died, he wasn't trembling with grief at the funeral. He was trembling with rage cause Hughes daughter was crying, and it annoyed the piss out of him. He staged the war with Ishval, and then armed his men with fake philosopher stones to make sure their slaughter was as great as possible. He was TRAINED to be this way, as we see with the failed "King Bradley's" near the end of the show. The men is PURE EVIL, and Bradley was the best of the worst.

It's so sad that even after all that, when he finally got his and Al's body back Ed will have such a short life ;-; ....he deserves to life longer!

This scene is fucking amazing. Very powerful and the voice actor did a great job. Edward is such an amazing character / alchemist to be able to do this

The pole being slowly pulled out of his stomach is the most visceral and disturbing scene in the entire show.

Darius: Your guts have got to be all messed up, you're going to need to use a philosopher stone to make this work. Edward: I'm going to have to use my own life force like a philosopher stone. Not like I have a choice. Later on; Heinkel: Hey, look a philosopher stone. Edward: FUCK.

Vic Mignogna... such a great job portraying Ed's pain and will to power through.

Eds yell always gives me goosebumps and it makes me sad 😔

The most painful scene in anime ever. Now that I think of it I think ed is the only character in the history of anime to go through as much pain as he has throughout his life.

So glad this happened within the context of the story. I almost can’t put into words how vital a scene like this is. 👍 Vic Did such an superb job.

I could write an essay about all the reasons why I love this scene.

The music here is so beautiful and hit at every moment it needed to hit.

I just remember finding this to be such an intense episode, especially because of this scene. I felt so bad for Edward here, but he's such a trooper.

The first time I saw this episode and saw the pole through Ed’s stomach I was like “Oh crap. This sucks” The way he used himself without knowing he’s actually a philosopher Stone is awesome

When I saw that I simply thought that he was for to stubborn to die even if he had to transmute the pole and his wound just to have to deal with blood poisoning after dragging himself to Briggs HQ

fun fact: Hiromu Arakawa wrote this scene in the manga to represent the pain she went through when giving birth to her first child

@@rikiishitoru8885 I'm pretty sure childbirth can be pretty painful, though I'm not a female, I would imagine having constant contractions for hours on end pushing the baby out I think can be really painful.

I'm not saying it isn't painful, I just don't think it's comparable to being impaled through the gut by a giant metal rod

When Ed says "I'm a philosophers stone powered by a single soul," I start crying. Just from the pain and determination in his voice. Whoever says Ed's English voice actor isn't good is crazy

I love how people said that he could have just used the stone. But, even if they had it, he wouldn't have used other souls but his own

Some of this voice actors best work.

I just realized that during this whole process ed didn't shed a single tear...

Edward elric such a goated protagonist one of the best of all time

Truth must've spotted him a bit for this one, according to some after series drawings, he makes it to 88.

Absolutly one of my favorite scenes. It really showcases Ed's fortitude and perseverance to remain a good person no matter what he suffered. Its just amazing. I love this beautiful show and its amazing quality

This Show is so good, a simple Idea like a Metalpiece stuck inside your Body and you have to heal it whitout Dying. Its such a big Deal and so painfull, and thats great, its one of the most intense Scenes in the Story. And Storywhise, it repressented the Toll Ed had to pay for the Decition to not kill. He does not get rewarded, he imideatly gets tested, and despite the Result he does not changes his Mind. Thats why he gains Kimbleys Respect later.

Everyones talking about how there was a stone just a few feet away, but you know that even if he knew it was there, Ed wouldn't have used it.

The first time I seen this I was in shock. The pain he must have been going through after realizing what happened is like wow. At first you have that adrenaline and then when it wears out you feel the pain. It must have been hard not to pass out or die from that cause he had to stay awake to heal himself. Good job voice actor for that voice. You nailed it that sounded....so awfully good.

This show has so much angst, it’s great for us writers 😌

That’s just crushing to watch. The determination, the sacrifice, and then the utter pointlessness of it . You can’t help what you don’t know, but having a stone that close and not knowing about it almost seems like a cosmic insult

I saw the sub version of this and it's honestly not the same. With the dub you can hear how much in pain Edward is suffering from the pole being pulled out. Dub wins this for me.

It's like the death of Hughes no matter how many times you see no matter how much you mentally prepare it still hits you like a semi-truck

I could not and will not picture anyone else playing ed but Vic.

I love the comrardery of this version of FMA like literally everyone who helps Ed has taken some form of kindness from him and gives it back to him twofold

this is the most saddest part fullmetal alchemist brotherhood

The lines of "Remember what it felt like at that moment. REMEMBER HOW IT FELT TO USE SOULS TO HARNESS LIFE" fucking gets me everytime and Idk why

I guess this is just gonna show up on my feed 9 years later at 5 AM before a test, huh

People, please. Edward would never have used the Stone for his own benefit so it didn't matter if the two Chimera men found it earlier. The brothers have only used the Stone once and it was for the benefit for others.

I watched this for the first time when i was a kid about 10 years old maybe. And today, i still remember this scne, i cam feel how hurt it was, now i'm 18y.o now.

Edwards voice acting was top tier
