Flying a hold and NDB approach into Casablanca in the PMDG 737 in Flight Simulator

Ойындар

A viewer of the channel recently emailed me, asking if I might demonstrate how I might approach runway 17R at Casablanca, given that the plate uses an NDB as an offset navigation waypoint, has a hold available (which we use), and ILS once we exit the hold. An interesting approach, and an unfortunate example on finals of an airfield where the stock scenery ILS and PAPI lights do not agree with each other, or the runway!
p.s. I know I forgot to set the barometric pressure for landing! There's always something! (disclaimer - not a real 737 pilot lol)

Because you aren't a real pilot it makes your videos gold.

Just a tip. There's a hidden click spot for TO/GA just underneath the pilots course knob on the MCP. Happy flying!

Very educational. You might be on to something here. Search out some of the more challenging approaches and do a bit of a tutorial. For example…KDCA Reagan National approach from the northwest. You have multiple restricted areas and multiple turns before final. The 737 will fly it on LNAV, but a bit of a challenge if you hand fly.

You did a pretty good job explaining the approach to the guy who asked about it. The one thing I’d recommend as a real world pilot, is that you should have flown that approach in an aircraft without a flight director, and one with basic instruments first. That way you really learn how to fly it, because you have to manually do it, without the full pictorials of the flight director. PS* In the real world, if we ever slipped below the glide slope like that….. 😱😱😱 Head inside to the company phone, and get at least your reprimand BUT probably worse! 😉. That’s why SIMS are fun. No boss constantly telling you how to do your job.

Hah - it's surprisingly difficult to explain what you're doing while doing it without messing up what you're doing :)

If your taking requests... Id love to see taking off and landing KLXV Leadville, Co. Elevation 9933, in a piston aircraft. KLXV ranks up there with the highest airports in the world...Tibet with the highest. A video explaining the effects of high elevation and air density take off and landmg at high elevation air fields in piston aircraft is non exsistant.

I'll look into it. I've flown into high altitude airports in group flights with ATC before. It's fun.
