I am a self-confessed F50 fanatic. I flew on Air Antwerp's their inaugural flight LCY-ANR and was pleased to see that the lovely Barbara (crew at the rear cabin on this TR) was working for them once more. I too hope that this route is successful but we shall see.

You missed a trick of calling the title “Meet the Fokker”!

3:30 I met the exaclty same co-pilot on my VLM flight from Rostock to Antwerp in summer last year! I visited the cockpit and he told me some facts about the instruments of the aircraft. Great to see him back in the cockpit after VLM has gone, haha :D

So nice to see it still flies in Europe in 2019.

Great video! It’s great to see the Fokker 50 still flying! I don’t know why there were no orders by airlines here in America for the Fokker 50. The F27 was really popular here.

I used to fly as cabin crew on VLM fokker 50...

Thank you Noel,. You're so very welcome in my country. Belgians tend to be very nostalgic so that's why we maintain these old Dutch Fokker 50.To bad Air Antwerp doesn't provide other destinations. I'm wondering how Liege airport is, never been there. Cheers.

Lovely! I know the Fokker aircraft very well. They're my favourite type!

When I first started flying here in Australia we had the Fokker Friendships ( Fokker F 27) as they were called...mainly on regional routes through out the country. This name led led to a number of risque jokes which I won't repeat here !! This aircraft has had more owners than my first car back in 1972 !! Thanks Noel for yet another terrific report and a good flight it appears. Looking forward to your next adventure as always !!

My great grandmother used to live in a 7 story building on the top floor in North Woolwich, I would spend hours looking out at the airport at all the departing and arriving aircraft in the 90s - Such great memories of all the Bae 146s, fokkers and the likes. Was amazing when I got to fly into City airport myself :)

Man, if I lived in the UK I would travel to Europe for vacation a couple times a year with such low airfares. I can't even get a bus ticket that cheap.

You do need to be close to the big low cost hubs for this to be doable. We live 30 minutes away from Stansted airport (aka Ryanair central); and at our peak we did 7 trips to Europe in 4 months mostly of weekend getaways without taking any time off work. Ah the days before we had our kids...

Stunning flight review in a rare plane.

Nearly at 100k subs ive been subbed since 9k and i have watched all of your videos. I respect what you bring for us (brilliant videos)

Don't forget that all Fokker airplanes where ahead of their time. Many other airplane makers licensed certain elements to use in their own airplanes. That's why why still feel quite modern after more than 30 years.

I flew Fokker 50s a couple of times in the late 1990s with Air Nostrum. Back then it reminded me of the original Fokker F27s I used with NLM Cityhopper in the 1980s. Seeing the wheels coming down in this video brought back memories of flying low over the Netherlands and getting great views. Not much room for cabin bags but better than Jetstream J41s or Saab 340s (possibly the noisiest of the lot inside).

Brings back my childhood memories during the early to mid 90s when KLM flew from Birmingham to Amsterdam on the Cityhopper Fokker 50. Shame KLM no longer have any turboprop aircrafts in their fleet.

Noel, thank you verry much for this video. I'm not familiar to Air-Antwerp but i surely was verry familiar to VLM-flight crews. There is something magical about the Fokker-50, all the flightcrews (both pilots and cabin crew but also maintenance engineers and instructors) realy liked this aircraft called the Rolls-Royce of the turbo-props. The only tangible reminder i have on this aircraft is a once replaced flight-controll-yoke hanging on the wall of my livingroom.

really great video again Noel - I really enjoyed the history of the aircraft at the beginning but i would advise giving the photographers credit otherwise they could easily get the video taken down (unless they are your images then screw me!!). Top work !

That aircraft was my "bus" for a few years when Norwegian Airlines started out with only The Fokker 50

I just subscribed. Great video and it's good to see the F50 aircraft in a video. I'm from Australia and the F50 was a regular in Western Australia. However they were sold in 2016. But in South Australia the F50 is used for Alliance Airlines which is a charter airline. Overall the F50 is a strong aircraft....Fokker really did make it a strong, tough and dependable. It was built like a brick. You'll get roughly 260 to 275 knots true air speed (TAS) and the aircraft can fly at a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet. The range is impressive too. The F50 is a fuel truck. Cheers.

Made the ANR-LCY flight today. It was awesome to fly on this aircraft.

As predicted by Noel, the airline had a short history. In june 2021 all operations were stopped.

It's feels good to see you ride the Fokker 50! I hope I can see you ride the Q300, Q400, ATR 42 or 72 (early development with 4 blades), Saab 340 and Saab 2000

Come to Australia we have plenty of F50s, F70s and F100s at Alliance Airlines and you can fly on them for reasonable prices 👍

Tom Jordan I’ve done the F70/100 when KLM operates them here in Europe but that F50 has evaded me. Doing it in Oz would tick two things off the travel list too 😁

Actually Amapola in Sweden still uses them in 2024. Would be very happy to take it for a flight some day!

Come here to australia and you can fly the biggest Fokker fleet in the world with over 40 F50s F70s and F100s. Just flew the F70 last week and it was a cool little jet.

If you ever come to Germany please try 'Rhein Neckar Air' from Mannheim to Hamburg. But only this direction. Aircraft is a DORNIER328 and you will get the best service in board you can imagine. Greetings from Hamburg

There’s an airline that flys between ADL and OLY called alliance which has a fleet of mostly Fokker 50s

You should fly with Alsie Express! They operate two ATR 72-500 with a business class like interior and drinks & snacks on a 35 minute flight.

The excellent service is still the same as it was many moons ago on the Rotterdam-Hamburg route! Unfortunately the same goes for the low pax on this flight, I took many vlm flights to Hamburg and I can't remember a single flight that had more than 15 passengers on board

We are flying a few in Adelaide Australia with Alliance Airlines, ex KLM I think.

Looks like a fun flight. Odd to have 2 F/As on a 50 seat aircraft.

Air Antwerps flight from London City to Antwerp is interesting. There's a series on TV on Channel 58

My only experience flying on a Fokker 50 was on a government plane. Yes, it was very noisy as Noel pointed out. Also, the tray table was so tiny, that it actually looked “cute”. I was offered quite a meal service by the Taiwanese Air Force Presidential Airlift Squadron.

9:24 note the Luchthaven sign on the side of the building. The top half, where it said Aéroport, has been covered up ;)

Also, when I did the route in reverse on Cityjet, the same parking stand at Antwerp, we had the shortest bus ride ever - barely the length of the plane!

I think Air Antwerp is managing it better than VLM, thanks to shareholders KLM and Cityjet. ANR - LCY was a profitable route for VLM, but VLM made the mistake of wanting to expand too quickly. They opened a lot of routes: Zurich, Maribor via Munich, Rostock via Cologne, Manchester, Aberdeen via Birmingham.. The growth wasn't sustainable. KLM and Cityjet want to keep the sole route ANR-LCY for now till they are profitable and only then will they think of new destinations.

London City used to be home for loads of airlines using Fokker 50. Now it's home just for ''Fokkers''.
