Will that fly ride hook up?? Wondering because generally you tie bead chain or lead eyes on top of the shank and it turns the fly over but those bead chain eyes seem too light to flip that hook. Am I right or nah??

In this case the idea isn't to turn the fly over with these. With this heavy hook and md bead chain eye the fly will ride hook down which is what we want. The bead chain on this is simply there to finish off the fly.

What would be the smallest hook you would or could tie this on? Great video! Ernie

I have tied them all the way down on a #4. You just have to use less material on the head and trim it down more. The small ones work great for when fish are spooky or when they are targeting smaller sized minnows.

Does this fly float on the surface or does it sink ? I've never used one , what size hook do you use for tarpon , have you tried different colors ? Darker -lighter ?

Dave Scheer i have fished this in every color imaginable pretty much. it sinks slow. i like 4/0 for tarpon, and color depends on water clarity mostly

Great looking fly, I wish you didn't have to trim off all that beautiful fox. Don't they make them in a smaller size? I make my own on the Nor-vise so I can keep the tips and the color of the fox tail. To each his own though. It is still a good looking fly with or without the tips. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean

Thank you for your comment, Sean. I am sure there would be a way to create a dubbing brush that would focus more on accenting the tips at the right length. Idea is to have a head similar to spinning deer hair, but way easier. lol

marabou tail, coyote fur for the mid section, ep foxy brush 1.5 for the head. Then trim it down. Some rubber legs in there and bead chain eyes.
