Fly Fishing Rutland Water : A "Cracking" End to an Evening on Dry’s in Old Hall Bay (14-06-21) 4K

Спорт

It was the hottest day of the year with no cloud cover. You'd have to be insane fishing the banks of Rutland Water in such weather. Then at 4pm the clouds appeared. I decided to shoot over to Old Hall Bay for another try on a dry fly.
It was a truly "cracking" end to the day!

    Paul from Two Novice Anglers here. We really enjoyed this video, we subscribed and will look at the others. We don't fish from the boat yet as we have fished for less than a year. This bank video is so helpful. Thanks again.

    Well done on getting the fish on the hottest day of the year John but try smoothing your casting out a bit , slow down and let the rod do the work . Looks like your trying to force it out at times mate ..Enjoyed your video though , keep them coming , i'm down at Rutland next week ..cheers Stevie

    I definitely was that session. I’d been doing really well slowing it down but I went a bit like animal on the drums. Tranquility will soon be resumed. I was out twice on the grass practising slowing it down today.

    Notice you are wearing a wrist support, I’m having wrist issues the day after fishing. Does it give enough support to reduce the post fishing ache?

  • @johnp4hc

    @johnp4hc

    Yes it definitely does. If fished a LOT this year so getting old leads to RSI. The support stops you using the wrist so much. I fished Draycote yesterday without it and my wrist is aching again.

    Will take a look at that. As we’ve only got a couple of weeks off the banks I’ve decided to go 100% dry until I switch to boats. It will force me to try new techniques. That’s the second one of the 2 piece Loomis rods that have done that. The last one went after a few months, they sent me a 3 piece replacement and I liked it so much I bought another. Used them for the boats and my 2 piece for the bank. It’s done well to last 15 years with the abuse I’ve given it. Will try and find the article.

    @@johnp4hc I say this with the greatest respect as your videos are realy good but you are a tad rough with the rod etc when unhooking fish you tend to just drop your rod in the deck 😉 maybe a contributing factor to the break 😉 not picking holes in anything you do by the way just an observation... keep doing what your doing 👏

    @@robertlithgow8916 That’s a VERY good point. On the bank I’m always eager to get the fish back ASAP. You’ve made me think that on those granite banks it just takes one bad “drop” to damage the rod. I’ve also had it drop off the car when driving so I was really lucky to have it last 15 years. I’ll be very careful with the other two.

    Sad times about your rod John... I did notice that you dropped your rod once or twice on those rocks to change flies... That could of caused a crack or some other damage which led to the snap.

    Bad luck. Isn't the main lesson learned not to spend £500 on a rod for reservoir fishing? They always get knocked around, dropped on rocky banks and in boats, hit by weighted flies, etc. I have several expensive 3-5 wts for delicate dries on rivers and streams, but my resr rods are El Cheapos.
