good video, The ironic thing for me ( i used to live and fish in burry Port) is that the spot your catching those smoothhounds was all slag stone and muscle beds back in the 90s, nothing but rocks as far as the eye could see, thats why it was called the black point, but it had the same deep channel right in close, it was an awesome bass mark, they'd feed on the crab close in amongst the rocks, lots of big bass where also caught on plugs all around there, but the smooth hounds where pretty much non existent in that area unless you went further out on a boat or down to cefn sidan beach, the Sandy beach environment has obviously attracted different fish to the area over the years. I don't go down that way much anymore, so its interesting to see how things have changed, thanks for the upload.
@@Dave_177 One of the locals told me the story of the place. My understanding is the sand shifted naturally. The deep water channel opposite the old lighthouse on the other side is an even better spot for smooth-hound.
Ñice to see your video ' love waching them ' you got a very nice manner'
@@peterbush4569 Thanks Peter.
Theres feeding mullet and theres frenzied feeding mullet. The frenzied variety will take a fly more readily than the latter. Seeing mulet grazing is my biggest learning. I think they go in to frenzy mode and sound like pigs at a trough. I think I've learned that fly takeable mullet , have to exhibit this frenzied behaviour...not always the case, as some anglers do well fishing static on muddy estuaries...
A great video and good information, well done.
Those mullet are after the turds coming downstream😂
@@kevinwood1358 No sewage outflows in that river.
Welcome back very enjoyable video Many thanks.
Thanks David. That was a bugger to do. My wife’s shooting with the phone was critical. AND I learned the Jack Hargreaves Voiceover.
Where's all the new videos?
Lost interest in trout. Not so easy to film sea fishing. Too much extra gear to carry about.
@@johnp4hc Lost interest in trou!?!?!? I'm shocked to the core....
@@Labeilofest Had an epiphany about catching wild fish that never grew up in a stock pond and have been in the water for years rather than weeks or days.
@@johnp4hc I get it and I agreed, the smaller waters this is correct but when we are talking about Rutland and Grafham, they are large enough to hold good stocks of over wintered and grown on fish. Each to their own but it is a shame not to see any more content. I really thought you were starting to get somehwere.
Welcome back, I must say that flounder looked an awful lot like a sole to me!!
I wondered that during the editing! Not wide enough for a flounder.
i hope you will still be fishing rutland and could you possibly go to grafham and pitsford please 👍🎣
Never say never. But probably not this year. I’m obsessed by wild fish for the moment.
I'm sorry to hear about your subpar experience with the fishing guide, John. I'd appreciate it if you could give me their name. Cheers.
Question for everyone, when fishing a team of buzzers, do you use tapered leaders or do you use say 8lb all the way through from the fly line to the point? Thanks in advance!
I’ve tried both. But now stick with the same leader all the way through. When they are hard on them it’s like a feeding frenzy. No real need for fine presentation like with dries.
Your guide should loose his license for allowing you to keep that last sockeye out of the water that long.
Counting fish that don't make then net.... can't count that. Dropped!!
Go upstream to the blue stone and ping a shrimp behind it and wait for the bingo
The beat to yourself and you never had 7 on the shrimp poor show mate 🤦🏻🦐🎣
Get the shrimp on 🦐 everyone else does 🎣🐟👍
Love u fishing vids and ur enthusiasm but Jesus learn to cast properly...
Great video, can I ask what landing net to use thanks …

Do you ever fish heralaw and if u do any tips or videos am gone on the 15th of march a no long way away but am rattling lmao a need a fix hard winter on me and ma da
I’ve never been. But early season you can’t go wrong with the Pitsford Pea! Works everywhere.
Badly advised? Not from what I hear
Were you there? Told of at least five separate occasions in my own kitchen on what to take. Even bought a new rod for it. Only to find it was not up to the job on the 150 yards of gravel bank we fished pretty much every day.
I happen to know who you're referring to, and he doesn't even own a 9' rod, as I asked him. I'm not sure then why he would advise a 9' rod when all he uses is a 10' rods himself? Did anyone else on the trip have the same setup that you had?
@@gordonredmond1329 To be fair there were so many things we were mislead about it’s hard to keep count. Anyway the positive side is we’ve now found some way better lodges and guides to go with on any future trips.
@@johnp4hc that’s good, let’s hope that you carry out the correct research into the areas you are fishing in the future 👍🏻
@@gordonredmond1329 Yes, from people that actually know what they are talking about. I quote, “an 8wt reservoir rod is all you need”. Told me that on at least five occasions. He also had everyone tying up weighted spinning jigs that no one used but that’s another story, along with the single rooms, three star accommodation, wilderness fishing in areas no one else can go, 1 guide for each 2 anglers etc, etc, etc.
I’m very sorry that you had such an experience but please don’t paint us all with the same brush. There are many many good people, guides and lodges here in the Skeena Region - tight lines Fishing is our Addiction! Guiding is our Passion! Adventure is in our Blood!
I'm guessing you don't have to get out of bed at 4:30am to fish the reservoirs.
No you don’t, or when you go out with guides that have licences for classified waters.
Well done david learned more off you in 20 mins than off so called experts a rutland water ' spot on
We were going next year' learned so much from your vidoes ' we now know the pit falls and cons of some fishing tips cant thank you enough. I like your very well persented tell it as it is
Thank you. I try to keeping it honest!
Hi John I've tried searching for you in FB Messenger and I find 3 x John Scott Parks (with an S) and several John Scotts but no John Scott Park (without the S) . Do you have a link? I would like to ask you which lodge as I am looking at a trip.

Nice fish handling! Keep em wet!
Spot on 'i enjoyed waching you fishing
My experience of the lodge , guides and the fishing is a total opposite. I had the best fishing experience ever , great guides offering sound advice , awesome fishing , I caught more fish in ten days than I would in a lifetime in the UK. Some of the fish included fresh chinook to 35 pound, 20 pound plus chum, coho, sockeye , pinks most sea liced. I guess every experience is subjective , it’s that good I’ve booked again and I’ve fished BC many times.
I didn’t specify which lodge. I’m glad you had a good experience on your trip.
Please let me know what lodge I would love to book up for next year
Your bang on about Skeena flossing/mouth snagging. There's plenty of good guides out there who know how to get fish legitimately but unfortunately there's plenty of greasy rednecks who claim they know to fly fish but snagging/flossing is their only game.
Ya I know which lodge you’re talking about, worst in the region
John sorry to hear your story, its a story that we hear on a regular basis. Thats why as a company we check out and validate all the destinations that we run. It is all to easy for a lodge to make a great looking website and promising the earth. This is such a bad representation of Canada and what great fishing the Skeena offers for all types of Salmon and Steelhead. The lodge you have travelled to only gives the area and the true good guides who work hard a bad name. John feel free to give us a call and we will be only too pleased to help you in the future, you will get 100% advice, we make sure the destination matches your expectations and if we think you are expecting too much we will tell you what is and is not possible. Plus we provide great detail pre trip information about what to take and not to takeso you are well prepared before you arrive. basicl;y the more prepared you are the easier it is for our guides and also you are much more likely to have a great time and rebook with us, so it is worth while us investing time in you. Regards Peter
We’re already in touch. My friend David has already been emailing you back & forward.
Arrrr now that makes sense already talked to david. Lets hope we can help sort you all out. The lodge we have recommended is also awear of the issues you had and they will ensure you have the true Candian fly fishing experience. @@johnp4hc
Hi John Sorry to hear about those problems some of which I’ve experienced. Have also had some really great experiences in Canada too but can you let me know the lodge you stayed in as want to avoid! Thanks

I’m on Facebook as John Scott Park so you could try messenger.
Credit to you for highlighting your trip and the pitfalls,. I hope a lot of anglers contact you to find the name of this lodge. 9 guests to 2 guides😲 Flossing for fish,😢, back home we call it snatching, that's not fishing
Bang on, any redneck moron claim to be a fishing guide and can floss fish with T-18.
You should have been up one of tributary Rivers for Monster Steelhead, that guide ? Bulkley River steelhead hit 30lb, prime time late Step/oct and the other tribes are also WICKED!!! don't bothar fishing for stupid coho there crap.
I’ve really enjoyed your trip to British Columbia hope to see you back filming at Rutland many thanks
Rutland is a bit like Groundhog Day for me now. I need to find a reason to go back. I’ve got three ideas for my “fishing with friends” series. Me “guiding” You and Gary on Rutland, then you guiding me on Grafham. That could be fun next year.
Who is the xxxxxtttr that cant keep the fish wet. Tell him to learn some conservation techniques it's fisherman like him that ruin it for all.
is there many steelhead around the tributaries of the skeena
We couldn’t fish them as our guides didn’t have the licences.
A lesson learnt make sure the lodge has access to the classified waters or you will end up fishing the towns water all the time
that is unfortunate @@johnp4hc
@@davidhumphrey1819 i here that river gets a handful of steelhead
@@johnwallace5098 If only we’d been told that BEFORE we paid up front for the trip. We assumed that because it was organised by a “reputable” UK guide that we’d be fishing in the “wilderness”.
Hi John Evan here from Edinburgh very happy for you, catching that salmon something back in return for your, hard work and determination
That was a great day. It felt like it finally all came together. I ended up with 20+ fish for the 7 days I fished which I’m really happy with.
why did they check your id?
They have to check your identity against the licence to prove you are who you say you are.
Was a nice trip quiet and peaceful no combat fishing
I think that was my favourite day. Corey was brilliant. I learned so much.
And I caught 35 salmon !!
@@davidhumphrey1819 You certainly did 😀

Thanks Derek!
Something different.well done .
Not my idea of salmon fishing...but thanks for taking the time to record it..
Not my cup of tea either.
Not for me.Reminds me of the first day of the season at a lot of waters, with everyone clammering over best spot for and shoulder to shoulder to get the best sport rather than share.Much different to your Rutland videos with light tackle, dry flies and buzzers, etc, where you have the tranquility and beauty of that amazing reservoir.Well done though John for showing us fly fishing in other places in the world.
It not at all what I was expecting.
As a Canadian, we have many high-altitude reservoirs that rival our natural lakes in terms of beauty. Most of us prefer exploring wild waters and seeking out wild fish, but it's not always feasible. The Skeena River and the other famous rivers surrounding Terrace, BC, are quite popular among anglers. While many people may be after salmon, most Canadians and Americans specifically target the highly esteemed Steelhead. Due to the limited number of rivers and fishing spots, it is wise to rise early to secure a good location. I can assure you that I will never forget the experience of hooking and landing a 20lb Steelhead.
Too many lines in the water for my liking
Don’t even get me started on that! Should be no more than three anglers in that spot.
I hope more people subscribe
I’m doing OK! I do this as much for myself as others. It’s a nice way to capture the memories.
Yes a wonderful memory steel head number 1 and when I caught it there were just three of us on the point as was agreed to give us more space - did not last long though !!
All of 30 minutes before the “invasion” of the fishmongers.
