Fly Fishing British Columbia Review : Life is Like a Box of Chocolates (2-09-23) 4K

Спорт

This is the review of my recent visit to British Columbia.
The trip of a lifetime, turned into a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride.
This overview provides a sense of the challenges I had to overcome and how I went about the process of day to day, turning what could have been disaster, into triumph.
I ended up with 20 + quality salmon but had to fight for the right to catch them.
The ten 8-13lb Coho Salmon were the highlight of the trip. And the MONSTER steelhead that got away, just gives me a reason to go back some day..............

My experience of the lodge , guides and the fishing is a total opposite. I had the best fishing experience ever , great guides offering sound advice , awesome fishing , I caught more fish in ten days than I would in a lifetime in the UK. Some of the fish included fresh chinook to 35 pound, 20 pound plus chum, coho, sockeye , pinks most sea liced. I guess every experience is subjective , it’s that good I’ve booked again and I’ve fished BC many times.

Credit to you for highlighting your trip and the pitfalls,. I hope a lot of anglers contact you to find the name of this lodge. 9 guests to 2 guides😲 Flossing for fish,😢, back home we call it snatching, that's not fishing

John sorry to hear your story, its a story that we hear on a regular basis. Thats why as a company we check out and validate all the destinations that we run. It is all to easy for a lodge to make a great looking website and promising the earth. This is such a bad representation of Canada and what great fishing the Skeena offers for all types of Salmon and Steelhead. The lodge you have travelled to only gives the area and the true good guides who work hard a bad name. John feel free to give us a call and we will be only too pleased to help you in the future, you will get 100% advice, we make sure the destination matches your expectations and if we think you are expecting too much we will tell you what is and is not possible. Plus we provide great detail pre trip information about what to take and not to takeso you are well prepared before you arrive. basicl;y the more prepared you are the easier it is for our guides and also you are much more likely to have a great time and rebook with us, so it is worth while us investing time in you. Regards Peter

Another fact that we only understood after returning - non of the guides had access to classified waters so they could only take us to the local town water ,so 17 anglers all were pushed into 100 yards of water of which only 30 yards was productive !!! It got even more fin when the locals turned up and started chucking spinning gear out between us !!

And we each paid £5k to fish public water we could have got access to with a $150 permit and hotels at £100/night plus hiring local guides. Like the ones we met in the local shop. #Fleeced

John I’m so sorry for your experience …you’ve travelled across the globe to fish based on the expectations created on the hype of others …who let’s face it just want your money …I learned from a similar experience in New Zealand 20 yrs ago…never again ..no more group bookings for me ….single guides only snd research research research …and for the record your resilience and outlook has probably saved the trip to a degree …keep smiling mate 👍

Were you there? Told of at least five separate occasions in my own kitchen on what to take. Even bought a new rod for it. Only to find it was not up to the job on the 150 yards of gravel bank we fished pretty much every day.

I happen to know who you're referring to, and he doesn't even own a 9' rod, as I asked him. I'm not sure then why he would advise a 9' rod when all he uses is a 10' rods himself? Did anyone else on the trip have the same setup that you had?

@@gordonredmond1329 Yes, from people that actually know what they are talking about. I quote, “an 8wt reservoir rod is all you need”. Told me that on at least five occasions. He also had everyone tying up weighted spinning jigs that no one used but that’s another story, along with the single rooms, three star accommodation, wilderness fishing in areas no one else can go, 1 guide for each 2 anglers etc, etc, etc.
