"oh, my memories are coming back in ways I wasn't ready for" is such a pretty and relatable line. I really like this one.
@mullafacation

What's weird is that I'm not sure if it is a relatable song about memories and how everything drifts into the future or just a load of words threw in a bucket and rattled around until it forms something that seems like it should make sense. The human brain (and actually, computers too) can't pick out truly random words, it has to take it from somewhere, so I think what Bill's doing is just writing thoughts but not fixing them so it makes sense to hear.

@@mullafacation yeah I get what you mean. It's like a rorschach test but with words instead of ink blots. this song has made me cry, and i mean that in the best way possible. ive had to be a caretaker to almost all my grandparents, who all had gotten dementia before they died. and while they were not to the point of forgetting their place in time fully, this song, makes me think of someone with dementia singing about their experiences. how time flows for them, and how they see the world and people they interact with. i know bill's songs are vague, probably on purpose, but i cant get over how much this fits people who cant keep track of reality anymore. a soft song despite losing the ground under your feet is something so powerful, and comforting.

Nonsense. They are not usually simple at all, and any comedy is only an element of some parts of the songs because it's part of the human experience. Hell as far as the "simplicity" goes I bet you wouldn't even be able to figure out the chords to any of his songs, even ones without modulation. After you've tried that, try sitting down and writing a melody with fitting lyrics that's half as good as any of his songs. It's insulting to call his stuff anything other than musical genius and genuine expression. This one is heartwarming, why the heck would you say it feels heartwarming and then say it isn't? How it feels is what it is, that's what art is. Maybe most people don't recognize his music as what it is because any time there's anything in a song other than "I'm in love" or "I'm heartbroken" it just seems quirky and strange
Bill Wurtz has such a way with words. I’m never able to tell where he’s going with a sentence, and each sentence is open to much interpretation because out of context they make as much sense as they do in context.
I adore how close Bill gets to his songs having a clear meaning without them ever having one. I almost understand it I’m this 🤏 close, but it’s still just music. Beautiful, nonsensical music.

Honestly, all I don't exactly understand is 1:28 the rest can be seen as a memory (being the beginning of the song) slowly deteriorating as time passes, first it's clear, then in the first chorus, the 'future' represents your future self recalling the memory, second verse I have no clue how it fits into everything, in the second chorus, the '7th scene' is you retelling the story, hence why the point of view is unclear to them, as this could've happened years ago and many details could've been forgotten, regardless, you write down what you can remember and read through it to reexperience the memory, however this time, instead of you flying around, the sandals fly around. And as even more time passes, the memory fades more and more to the point where you convince yourself you remember the story clearly, when in reality all you know for sure is that you 'traveled the ___, jumped over the ___, into the ___, back to the___'
@giggabiite4417
2 жыл бұрын
@@cheesecraft789 I think the blanket is referring to a "safety blanket", that sort of feeling where you only do things you would do at home but in a different place which I find is intrinsically related to thinking things completely through. In other words, if he traveled thinking closely about all his actions, he probably wouldn't have nearly as much fun as just being there. This also means that what he does during that time is harder to remember cause he was just living in the moment. Without his blanket holding him down, he can "fly around" edit: I feel like I explained this badly, if so pls say so and I can reword it

whenever he releases a new song i listen to it on loop until i start to realize the existential metacommentary baked into the lyrics "i walked on earth in special sandals. then i took them off and now i can fly around...i watched those sandals fly away and i didnt notice when they hit the ground "; an homage to the cynic/buddist philosophy that true freedom is achieved once soul is detached from all earthly pleasures. "some people ask why the sun is not very bright. my arms are too tired for this conversation."; blatantly faulty arguments are not worth fighting "my calendar is telling me that its the future"; measurement of past and future are just human concepts and shouldnt fixated on. never wait till the future to be happy because it will always be the present and never the future. so let the future be now "there are characters in the second scene and they never talk but you know exactly what they mean"; there are so many people who you will see but never truly know or meet "somewhere in the 7th scene when noone understands the point of view you find so familiar"; there are so many people outside your immediate social bubble that will subvert your worldview "oh! my memories are coming back in ways i wasnt ready for. but im still enjoying how it feels. so im holding onto the details. capture the details. in a series of carefully chosen words and phrases and then replay it"; literally him having an existential epiphany and writing it into his lyrics so he can revisit the headspace later "and know exactly what the story will be...and pretend to know exactly how the story will end"; finding contentment with never knowing the answer to what will happen after death

This bops more than any song has. It's calm, it's confusing, and it's just good. I usually use this rating as a joke, but seriously, 11/10. Edit: Aperently the replies think I am saying I watched the entire video by the time I made this comment and I'm commenting for likes, but I'm not. I just liked the song and I was at the part where it was calm which is about 3/4ths into the song. Saying this again, I just like the song, okay?

I love the abstract style of Bill's songs because we can interpret them in different ways which make them all the more precious.
@Squiddit
2 жыл бұрын
exactly!!! a target he's said he always likes to hit is songwriting is keeping things abstract and open to interpretation, while still making the feelings all real. unfortunately this leads to a lot of people assuming it's all random, because the meaning isn't as direct as in a lot of other pop music, but oh well, their loss. glad to see someone else gets it
The first verse has a clever line that I don't see people mentioning. "Some people wonder why the sun is not very bright / My arms are much too tired for this conversation" It's because he's flying around, his arms are tired from flapping. Get it? Also it may be a nod to the story of Icarus, though that could be a stretch. Basically he's saying he doesn't have time for negativity.

There aren't very many artists that do this. I'm a metalhead at heart (though I love all music), but it's sorta the difference between Nickleback and System of a Down. They both have very unique styles that are instantly recognizable but System is far superior because their songs are also distinct within their style. I love artists that have a unique (capitol V) Voice, but also experiment within that Voice to make each song it's own unique experience. That, to me, is the genius of Bill Wurtz.

1:38 “Most people wonder if the moon is apart of the sky, or if its just a decoration added later” damn i mean according to the Hebrew scriptures (or Old Testament of the bible for y’all Christians like me) i guess it was added later and could be just a decoration
This song feels extremely different to others he has made. It still has the somewhat chaotic element, but Bill really makes you focus on the beat this time, while adding familiar existential words to add emotion. 2:07 was an extremely beautiful transition, the animation perfectly represented the feeling that was made in that moment. guys. he is actually saying more than we know. bill is a genius. all the things you think are meaningless are metaphors
Nobody's talking about the phrase "pretend to know exactly how the story will end"? That line is absolutely genius. So often people make predictions with extreme confidence, but in so many ways we can never truly know how something will turn out. We can't always predict our favorite shows, we can't always predict next month's weather...and we can't predict how our stories will end.
Glad to have you here Bill!
I kept waiting for the trademark dissonance and jarring vibes, and it never quite came - everything was harmonic, relaxed - except for that *brief* mention of the future near the end that leaves a faint note of ‘hmmm.’ I had no idea how much I would love bill wurtz music that isn’t existential nightmare. it’s so… so nice.
