The most amazing part of this (for me) is more than 12,000 screaming metal heads going completely silent when Professor Dawkins begins to speak. The respect is just incredible. It seems that Nightwish is turning you into a metal head as well. You aren't the first and I suspect you won't be the last.

Excellent piece!
Troy playing his guitar with the e-bow, followed by the Floor's voice... So beautiful, I have tears in my eyes every time 😢
With you being from Finland, I too am surprised you had not heard this before. As others stated below, the Tampere show is a must see---especially for you. Thanks for the video reaction. p.s. Nightwish is best live. Watch them for an hour and you might change your mind about live music.
The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation." "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."
I misheard the introduction as "an agressively trained flute player" and I think that's beautiful.
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Only NightWish can create a musical piece describing 4.6 billion years of Evolution. From the creation of the Universe, the creation of our planet through the creation from animals, people and of course Music. This is a once in a lifetime musical composition that belongs in a museum! That ending when Richard Dawkins starts talking about how lucky we are to be here and how the music swells to when the band takes a bow gets me emotional every time. It’s is inspiring and moving and does exactly what a great piece of music should do. Make you feel!

Nightwish... the only band to put tears in my eyes. What a bombastic, epic music! What amazing arrangements! What great musicians! And... WHAT a voice! Wow! Besides classical music, their music is our musically legacy, i would say. We were here :)
You have no idea how often this video tempted me into buying a set of Uilleann pipes. And my neighbors don't know how lucky they are that I have thus far resisted the temptation of buying a set of pipes. 😂
Just a helpful hint, when you pause, take it back :10 seconds when you resume, so you don't miss anything or cut into the next section unaware.
I think it's amazing to to see music to mingle with actual science. Rock music was always related (some times) with political statements. Like Black Sabbath's Into the void or War pigs. Like Iron Butterfly's Slower than guns. But this is kinda new: pls listen to Shoemaker from Nightwish. About the US geologist Eugene Shoemaker. In honour of his outstanding work, parts of his ashes are now buryied on the moon. Nightwish made this a topic, to be recognized , today. Greetings from the far north of Germany!
Greatest band on earth

There is a whole orchestra and choir backing track in this song, and the Orchestra parts written by Tuomas are very rich and full, partucularly the outro. I think what you probably heard was a quick piccolo run in there at some point.
Thank you for your great reaction to this masterpiece. Maybe we'll meet in Kitee at the concert.
To other commenters: There is no such thing as 'the wrong concert' when it comes to Nightwish. Would she have enjoyed Tampere more? Maybe. She'll have to watch it and see. I think she would greatly appreciate listening to Human | Nature, more specifically Music, Shoemaker and Endlessness. Omg that first pause I actually yelled, "YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!" hahaha
this was after they'd already been playing for 2 hours....the "e-bow" or an earlier version, was played by guitarist Mick Ronson of David Bowie's band "Spiders from Mars" on the song "Suffragette City"....I saw it done live around 1971 or 72....to hear them singing, with Troy doing lead, and Floor/Marko backups, listen to "Harvest" from the Human/Nature album
That first pause is insane timing. Talking about the feel and choice of instrumentation within a fraction of a second of the BOMBASTIC entrance. I'm losing it.
Thanks! Your commentary was excellent.

Tuomas Holopainen is on that keyboard. He is a genius in music and the whole band is built around him. All very talented musicians and Floor brought the final touch to that.
The NW super-fans know all the lyrics, even the lines that Richard Dawkins is speaking at the end. ;o)
The live version is Tampere is more intense and has synchronized fireworks. This version however has sir Richard Dawkins performing live. LUCA means Last Universal Common Ancestor

I might have to do a separate reaction of the Tampere version, so many seem to prefer that one 😅 I loved the e-bow on this though!
Nightwish, the compositions, arrangements, musical performances, vocals, all world class, absolute genius.
I recommend you to listen to the whole album. You gonna love it. I❤Music
Tuomas plays 6 tones in the beginng. Carbon is the 6 in the perdodic system. We all are Carbon and Water.
The natural follow-up on this song is the 'Human Nature' album. It's made as a little deeper peak into the impact we as humans have had on the Earth - and vice versa. Remember there are 2 dvds on the Album - the second being almost pure classical music describing the nature throughout a year. Human Nature has been created to be listen to in order! There is a red line through the album including the second dvd. And the third and last part / album of these 'evolutionary stories' from Nightwish, are being released in 2024. Nightwish are going to the studio this summer to start recording the new album.
I have listened to this wonderful piece of music many times. But just now it brought back memories of the first time I heard Holst, "The Planets". It made s strong impression on me, that I have to this day when I listen to it now. I must always thank Tuomas who brought this incredibly wonderous score to hear. Impressive to say the least.
This really was an expirience !! Great and epic !!
When you're going to that concent, you might want to invest in some musician grade hearing protection. There are earplus out there that will drop >30 dB of sound level while being neutral when it comes to frequencies - the music sound like it's supposed to be just quieter. I'm pretty sure their sound engineer wears those. 🙂 They're not cheap, they will need to be customized you your ears but you will (probably) love them. 🙂

Awesome reaction and very good comments from you. Nightwish have only few own and festival gigs in June this year. In Finland shows in Kitee and Vaasa. After that they go rehearsal and record new album. They announced just unterminated tour break, so no gigs/tour probably in 1,5-2 years after this summer.
Never cared for any metal with female vocalist... until I heard Nightwish (Finding Nemo) from an ending scene in the movie, The Cave (I think). Listened to them now at least a decade. Really awesome band there...
Hahaha... your reaction is so honest, so sweet :) You forgot to drink the coffee in the beginning as you´ve been that deep in the magic of that music. Reminds me about myself when first listened to this masterpieces by Nightwish. Forgot everything around, and countless coffees have become cold meanwhile :)))
The Tampere version contains the most musical rendition of "The Big Bang". In my opinion, "The Greatest Show on Earth" is Tuomas Holopainen's Magnum Opus.
Just your own reaction to when Troy came-in with his pipes is the main reason you should watch the Tampere version... all-in-all the better 'show' .... (that doesnt mean this is a bad verson btw, it is also superb)... I am pretty sure us Nightwish fans wouldnt mind you doing a reaction to the Tampere version 🤘🤘🤘
29:45 watch out - adding Nightwish to your car playlist can endanger your driving license. I live in Germany and while quite a few bits of Autobahn don't have a speed limit, there are some. My car can't match the sound of Floor but it can match the feeling when she lets rip. I really need to keep my right foot under control there... 🙂 Which reminds me - I'm missing Gabriel Bardac from the comments. He's the General of the Nightwish Army, he'll send you a list of excellent recommendations of what to listen to.
Fantastic E-bow!!
The Flute Lady reacts to Uillean Bagpipes. When Richard Dawkins quotes the words "Endless forms, most beautiful" the Wembley crowd cheers at the name of the album.
Hey Troy, we found this bloated roadkill by the side of the road, can you play it?
OMG Heline 👍🏼 You are a Soumi Fluetist you have to go and nock on Tuomas Holipainen entre door..and give him your reference.. don't even think about the Soumi shyness just doit 🇸🇪🇫🇮 🇸🇪🇫🇮🇸🇪🇫🇮
Somehow I missed the Tampere concert in 2015 even though I live here in the same direction. But it's a great song, I've watched many reaction videos and many of you were really impressed that it's a great great song 💎
Your smile said it all
@20:34 Tuomas plays 2 measures of the fuge from Bach's Tocatta und Fuga, almost no one notice. A bit later there is a riff from Metallica - Enter Sandman. It really shows how well this is written bij Tuomas. An ode to the greatest composer ever and the best metal band.
You know that you have some boss moves when you have David Attenborough reading a poem in the end of your gig.
Troy was playing guitar with his e-bow, a small device that excites the guitar strings in a similar way the bow would excite the strings of a cello...hence the name "e-bow".
for more flute you must listen to the tampere version but it was a very good reaction music with flute listen to the dutch group george baker selection una paloma blanca live or fly away little paraquaya

Heline, as you are listening/reacting to contemporary music, may I suggest you try a band called Focus, they are a Dutch band, (who were huge in the 70's) led by the multi instrumentalist Thijs Van Leer, who often features the flute in his compositions and songs. May I suggest 'House of the King' which is a composition with flute playing the melody, or 'Janis' which again features the flute. A comical, novel piece called 'Hocus Pocus' features Thijs in his many musical aspects, it has to be heard to be believed!

I love both the Tampere and Wembley versions of this song, Only Nightwish could do justice to the Greatest Show On Earth, the first part is different in both versions thanks to Troy being able to play so many instruments, Wembley has that magical moment when Professor Richard Dawkin coming on stage (he wrote the book and read the important lines from Darwins The origin of species) Dawkin actually recorded all the spoken parts for NW on the album as well You must see them live, they are one of the best bands I have EVER seen live (and I have seen a lot)

oh yeeeaaaah, some ride that is (the greatest show on earth) ;-) thx for the video and like others allready suggested as well, i suggest to watch the Tampere version.
In case you haven't heard (of) them yet (which I guess is very likely due to how messed up the music industry is...), may I recommend Corvus Corax? They use lots of bagpipes (out of currently nine members, three _don't_ regularly play bagpipes 😄), but also have some rather interesting flutes and whistles every now and then. One of the funnier ones shows up pretty much right at the beginning of their song/video "Der Fluch des Drachen - Wild und Frei" (don't know how your channel handles YT-internal links, so I won't post one, but just copy-paste that into the search and the video should pop up right away ☺)
C'mon guys, she lives like 90mins away from Tampere 😂 Cool reaction either way
Heline, an excellent reaction to an epic song. Thank you. I would highly recommend another symphonic metal band, Epica. Although they are a bit darker than Nightwish, their music composition is just as wonderful. Given your background, you would enjoy listening to something from their 10th-anniversary performance in which they performed with a full orchestra and choir. Start with the song Unleashed.
Hello Heline, I always thought of suggesting htis to you when seeing your Nightwish reactions ...So here you go: maybe the band "Celtica - Pipes Rock" might be of interest for you as well (they are on my treadmill workout list together with nightwish for ages now) :) You can go for Alba's Shore or Megawatt as starters, but basicaly everything has a special energy ... even their version of Amazing Grace is cool for the treadmill ;) )
When you go to a Nightwish consert I hope you can come in contact with Troy or maybe get in contact with him when he is in Finland. I would love to see a video from such a meating or at least some information from that. Love your videos❤❤
Listen to 'Elan' from Wembly. Troy is singing and playing the flute in this song.
