The most amazing part of this (for me) is more than 12,000 screaming metal heads going completely silent when Professor Dawkins begins to speak. The respect is just incredible. It seems that Nightwish is turning you into a metal head as well. You aren't the first and I suspect you won't be the last.

The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation." "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

I think it's amazing to to see music to mingle with actual science. Rock music was always related (some times) with political statements. Like Black Sabbath's Into the void or War pigs. Like Iron Butterfly's Slower than guns. But this is kinda new: pls listen to Shoemaker from Nightwish. About the US geologist Eugene Shoemaker. In honour of his outstanding work, parts of his ashes are now buryied on the moon. Nightwish made this a topic, to be recognized , today. Greetings from the far north of Germany!

The natural follow-up on this song is the 'Human Nature' album. It's made as a little deeper peak into the impact we as humans have had on the Earth - and vice versa. Remember there are 2 dvds on the Album - the second being almost pure classical music describing the nature throughout a year. Human Nature has been created to be listen to in order! There is a red line through the album including the second dvd. And the third and last part / album of these 'evolutionary stories' from Nightwish, are being released in 2024. Nightwish are going to the studio this summer to start recording the new album.

Thank you for the amazing reaction! As most likely stated here already (my client won't let me read comments easily) the Tampere live show is even more spectacular, and absolutely worth checking out ps. I usually don't do this, but I just had to mention how extremely cute you seem as a person :)

Sometimes the KZread algorithm gets it just right and introduces someone like me to someone like you. Nightwish reactions are common on KZread which is good because they are great so when I saw you suggested I was really surprised when I went back on your history. Really pleasing you have a fan base for years now ever since you started your channel. I need to do some catch up and of course I am a new subscriber 🙂

It's actually (I believe) electric bagpipes that I believe Troy is playing. He plays a wide variety of instruments. Let's just say the band is in my eyes is not of this world. They changed and saved my life 4yrs ago.🎼🌹

The Nightwish have had three lead singers, and Floor Jansen that sings now and the other two are all schooled sopranos.

Heline, as you are listening/reacting to contemporary music, may I suggest you try a band called Focus, they are a Dutch band, (who were huge in the 70's) led by the multi instrumentalist Thijs Van Leer, who often features the flute in his compositions and songs. May I suggest 'House of the King' which is a composition with flute playing the melody, or 'Janis' which again features the flute. A comical, novel piece called 'Hocus Pocus' features Thijs in his many musical aspects, it has to be heard to be believed!

Your livestream chat let you down. Tampere version would've been much more up your alley. Troy plays the pipes and whistle at the start, plus it's your home town.

I love both the Tampere and Wembley versions of this song, Only Nightwish could do justice to the Greatest Show On Earth, the first part is different in both versions thanks to Troy being able to play so many instruments, Wembley has that magical moment when Professor Richard Dawkin coming on stage (he wrote the book and read the important lines from Darwins The origin of species) Dawkin actually recorded all the spoken parts for NW on the album as well You must see them live, they are one of the best bands I have EVER seen live (and I have seen a lot)

In case you haven't heard (of) them yet (which I guess is very likely due to how messed up the music industry is...), may I recommend Corvus Corax? They use lots of bagpipes (out of currently nine members, three _don't_ regularly play bagpipes 😄), but also have some rather interesting flutes and whistles every now and then. One of the funnier ones shows up pretty much right at the beginning of their song/video "Der Fluch des Drachen - Wild und Frei" (don't know how your channel handles YT-internal links, so I won't post one, but just copy-paste that into the search and the video should pop up right away ☺)

Heline, an excellent reaction to an epic song. Thank you. I would highly recommend another symphonic metal band, Epica. Although they are a bit darker than Nightwish, their music composition is just as wonderful. Given your background, you would enjoy listening to something from their 10th-anniversary performance in which they performed with a full orchestra and choir. Start with the song Unleashed.

Hello Heline, I always thought of suggesting htis to you when seeing your Nightwish reactions ...So here you go: maybe the band "Celtica - Pipes Rock" might be of interest for you as well (they are on my treadmill workout list together with nightwish for ages now) :) You can go for Alba's Shore or Megawatt as starters, but basicaly everything has a special energy ... even their version of Amazing Grace is cool for the treadmill ;) )
