May 1st, 2010. 2 ring veterans; undefeated Floyd “Money” Mayweather and “Sugar Shane Mosley collided in a non title Welterweight Superfight. Mosley was originally scheduled to take on Andre Berto in a WBC and WBA Welterweight Unification a few months ago but it was called off (with the entire undercard pulled) due to the tragic Haiti earthquake where Berto lost a few of his family members.
Prefight records; Mayweather 40(25)-0, Mosley 46(39)-5.
Entering the bout, Mosley was a Triple Crown World Champion who won world titles at Lightweight, Welterweight & Light Middleweight. Over the course of his 17 year career, he garnered commendable wins over Antonio Diaz, Wilfredo Rivera, John John Molina, Golden Johnson, Luis Collazo, Jesse James Leija, Phillip Holiday, Ricardo Mayorga, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Vargas (2x) & Oscar De La Hoya (2x).
On the other hand, the 4-1 betting favorite Mayweather was world champion in 5 different weight divisions; Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Light Welterweight, Welterweight & Light Middleweight. In his 14 year pro career, he had defeated a great number of notable oppositions such as Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Arturo Gatti, Jesús Chávez, Carlos Hernandez, Sharmba Mitchell, DeMarcus Corley, Gregorio Vargas, Carlos Gerena, Genaro Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Carlos Baldomir, Diego Corrales, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah & Jose Luis Castillo (2x).
However, Mosley’s UD12 win over De La Hoya in their 2nd meeting was controversial as most observers thought the Golden Boy clearly outboxed Sugar Shane to win the majority of the rounds. Oppositely, Floyd’s UD12 win over Jose Luis Castillo (their 1st meeting) was highly questionable as many felt that El Temible was the apparent winner.
Although 38 year old Mosley was somewhat past his prime at this point, he started off well in the opening round and had his best moments in the 2nd where he staggered Mayweather with a thunderous right hand followed by 2 more rights that nearly sent the 33 year old Floyd to the canvas.
However, from the 3rd frame on Money May adjusted and took control of the bout with his superior boxing skills & ring intelligence to largely dominate Sugar Shane, who had visibly slower hand speed and declined mobility despite still carrying power in both hands.
Moreover, Mosley had been inactive for about 15 months going into the fight.
Floyd’s patented right hand was especially sharp as razor; consistently finding the mark on Mosley’s chin with little to no trouble for the remaining 10 rounds en route to a lopsided UD12 win.
The 3 judges scored it 119-109 (2x) & 118-110 for Money Mayweather who remained undefeated with a perfect 41(25)-0 record.
By CompuBox Punch Stats, Mayweather connected with a staggering 46% of his power shots and 44% of total punches thrown.
Enjoy this highlight of one of Mayweather’s sharpest performances, and don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE!

Mosley was pushing 40 and this was his last half decent performance against an opponent you could probably name (Half decent for 6 rounds at least) It was surprising enough he still had enough in the tank to deliver that performance against Margarito (Who was just a punching bag without his plaster of Paris) but until then the last time he looked good against a solid opponent was Cotto in 2007. The fact he even landed those shots in this fight was pretty amazing. I thought it was gonna be a very dull 120-108 win for Mayweather when they announced it was happening

Red Yayhole I believe most knowledgeable Boxing votaries will agree. Nobody in the sport history had his Ring IQ and ability to Make Adjustments. Floyd is the *king of adjustments.* Ring IQ: A) Knowing WHAT to do B) Knowing HOW to do it Floyd personified that. His Ring IQ was a reflex in and of itself. Casuals wonder why people didn’t just bull rush Floyd...this is why. He never let them. Mosley, Robert Guerrero, Manny, and Canelo all tried to bull rush him. They all were neutralized and he made it look easy. That’s fucking ridiculous! Look at those names I just listed and who they were at the time Floyd fought them! He made beating them look easy.

@@ritzkola2302 So true man. Its unbelievable how discredited Floyd is to many casuals and even a ton of purist fans. Floyd is an all time great and easily the smartest and best defensive fighter ever. When has Pacquiao been made to miss and fly across the ring only to end up in swinging at air and flying off in the total opposite direction of the opponent. Floyd was and is the best

When Shane obliterated Magarito people said his age was fine while being 7 years older. 1 year later when Floyd gets wobbled people were fine, but then when Floyd turned it up. "Oh no Shane was too old." Then somehow Canelo fights Cotto and Shane then gets full credit. Manny even gets credit for fighting Hatton, Shane, and Oscar after Floyd. Manny drained Oscar and Cotto instead of fighting at their comfortable weight at 154.

Shane damn near KO’ed Floyd. But after Floyd recovered it was pretty much over. Floyd was just too fast for people. If you weren’t quick Mayweather would just pick you apart and get you frustrated because you couldn’t hit him back. Then you can see that his opponents start being scared to throw punches because they knew they were going to get peppered with shots in return.

A friend of mine always comes to me with these scenarios. Trying to find the best fight to bet on in terms of odds. I told him "You're joking right? Mosley might catch him with something in the first 3-4 rounds, but he isn't going to stop him and if he doesn't stop him he is gonna get peppered until the final bell rings" Mosley was like Roy Jones Jr. Speed and power and accuracy, that's how he won his fights. Fact is as you get older those the speed and athleticism go, as well as how long you can be those things
