Tactical breaks in his career and minimal punishment allowed for him to do that. He only ever overworked himself in training, which that in itself can cause you to break down. But for his fights, he overtrained to where he was able to perfectly align himself with the skills of his opponents and always have loads of extra reserve left over for when he needed to turn up for a bit to get the win. The only other fighter I could compare that to is Roy Jones, however Floyd at 45 and Jones at 45 are two different 45s. Jones fought multiple times a year, while doing freakish training regimes, playing basketball games before the fight, fluctuating weight multiple times, and as a result his legs were the first to go. It’s all about pacing yourself. It’s the reason Marciano retired so early.

i always felt like the pads were a gimmick thou. like in training iv never seen someone pad like that. Some of those shots just don't make and sense like when are you gonna triple tap a left hook. at @8.09. Unless this is for cardio and reactions i don't see the point in knowing a 200 piece combo. Maybe just instinct boxing when you start to panic? the shots are also very very light, which means most of those realistically would never land. I dunno i feel like there are better ways to train in this instance. that stuff is just for the cameras same with the speed bag.

He knows how to work his body and still preserve longevity,,, there's a Zen saying: "Less is More" ... Extreme effort and strain, doesnt always accelerate ur learing curve in building skills...Many people with the No pain No gain mentality are pushing so hard that the body degenerates and suffers damage,in training and especially in hard sparring....skills dont improve because good form is often sacrificed in pushing too hard for power and speed...floyd Always focuses on having good form and his power and speed come as By products without being sought directly..

The part that people don't realize is that he's "trying" to take it easy in these workouts...lbs-- he's only showing glimpses of how he can REALLY move! His body mechanics and control are elite when it comes to this craft--smh --The dude hasn't slowed down at all.. it's just that....hell, he's spent over 30 years training hard; why go hard in retirement?? Even in these exhibition bouts, he's just chillin'..lbs-- Floyd is really the "Bruce Lee " of Boxing; the man mastered has mastered many styles-- dominated in his era and is living his best life... and still gets to do what he loves while helping out the younger generation of boxers, it don't get no better!
