Welcome to FlossTube, Laurel. I am looking forward to more of your videos and your progress on the cross-stitch "learning curve." Your work is lovely and your subjects diverse. Also - for someone relatively new to cross-stitch; you are to be admired for using or wanting to work on linen. I have 20+ years of stitching under my belt, and I a still hanging on to Aida (14-18 count) for dear life! Take care and stay well and safe.

Hi Jasmine, thank you for the lovely comments! Ha, I just thought I was "supposed" to work on linen :) I'm quickly learning in cross stitch there is a lot of wiggle room in fabrics. I, too, still enjoy working on aida, especially at night!

Cotton kittens is adorable! The feet on the fat little kitty are adorable! I have the owl kit you are working on in my stash and would love to stitch it one of these days! Love seeing your progress on it because I haven't seen anyone stitching it yet. The "fuzzy little butt" cracked (no pun intended!) me up! I may have to get this book for my future grandchildren's stash :) Have a great stitchy week! - Laura

Cotton Kittens finished up so cute!!! Evenweave is different than linen. It’s a man made product with perfectly spaced squares. Linen is made of 100% linen and is not perfectly square, but pretty close.

Cotton Kittens is adorable! And I also love that owl! I always loved reading to my kids when they were little, & I always loved getting them involved in the summer reading programs at our local libraries & Barnes & Noble, etc. My son is in his 20’s & wants me to stitch him a Pokemon project (Gengar), so I might check that Etsy shop & see if they have one. 😊

Hi Laurel Have you seen the fabric calculator on 123Stitch? In the fabric tab, just scroll down and there is one for aida and a different one for evenweave/linen. Just pop the design size width and height in then how many inches you want to leave around the sides for finishing and the count of the fabric you want. It will work out how much fabric you'll need. I hope that makes sense and that you find it helpful. Feel free to ask any questions if you're unsure, happy to help you. :) Marie

Aida has half the number of squares , so 20 count Aida and 40 count linen or even weave are basically the same. In Aida you’d stitch 2 over 1 and with linen you’d stitch 2 over 2 and get the same sized stitch. So 14 ct. Aida would be like 28 count linen, 16 would equal 36 and so on. So if 40 count linen is too hard to stitch you could try 20 count Aida. As someone else said, you don’t necessarily have to use the same fabric count as the pattern, it will just change the size the project turns out. Your kittens are just sweet, I’ve never seen that pattern before . I loved reading books to my children, their children and many children I worked with over the years in education and child psychology. My grandsons book he likes the most right now is Chi ken Soup With Rice by Maurice Sendak. They read the book in class at the beginning of the school year and as the story tells of how they will eT it each month they would get it out the first day of the month and read that months verse. Since school has been out since March he comes to my copy every first to read that month to me and then reads it to his parents and sister. It’s such a cute book, he’s not the first child I’ve seen fall in love with it. Happy stitching🙋🏼

My vote is to use the gray fabric for the Madme Chantilly piece. Also, don't feel you need to use the over-dyed threads for a piece, alot of times DMC is just good. Or use DMC for the smaller sections and the over-dyed threads for big chunks of color.

What a sweetheart you are! I’ll look forward to seeing more from you. Order yourself some Evenweave to try first. You can totally see where to put your needle with each stitch. I like it the best. I only wish it came in a higher count. I think you’ll like it, especially for your large Halloween piece. See you soon! Edited to add: you can pick up a fairly large piece at your local Joannes or Michaels stores to see if you like it.

Thank you for the lovely comments and tips! I haven't tried the linen fabrics yet, as I am intimidated a bit. The 32 ct lugana was easy enough to see, but stitching over two was tricky at first :) I have seen 40 ct evenweave called Verdal (?) on KittenStitcher.com for fairly cheap, but it only comes in white!

Hi Laurel. I love the progress on your owl piece! It looks really good! Just a tip... you don't need to stitch with the fabric that the pattern has called for unless you want too. And jumping up to 40ct when you've only worked on aida could be daunting. I'd start with some evenweave like 28ct lugana, jobelan or monaco and see how stitching over 2 works for you. You wedding ring is gorgeous! I enjoyed your book reading.

Omg I LOVE that Halloween black cat pattern, I must stitch it 😂🔮🧙🏻‍♀️ Your owl is spectacular, it’s going to be stunning, can’t wait to see more progress ❤️ as a new flosstuber I’m finding there’s definitely a learning curve to making videos, I’ve had to re-record as well 😬 it seems like you liked stitching on the linen, I’ve only tried it once. Did you find it to be thinner? You have some amazing fabrics too!

Rainbow Cat Stitcher Thank you for your kind comments! 🥰 Yes, I had no idea how much work went into making these videos. It gave me a new appreciation for everyone who makes them. I’ve only tried 32 count Lugana, which is an even weave so the holes are...even? 🤨 It took a little bit of learning and felt like I forgot how to cross stitch because over two threads is strange at first. I bought 40 count because I saw so many charts called for it! 😟 But I’ve seen a lot of people use counts they are more comfortable with instead...so those 40 counts will likely stay put away until I find a small enough project for them.

Rainbow Cat Stitcher Yes, let’s do it! That would be so much fun! The chart calls for 40 count murky, but I’m going with 32. It can also be done on Aida. I “splurged” for classic colors works, which will be my first time using anything not DMC. After we receive our goodies, let’s pick a time to start. 🎃 👻
