Thank you so much for sharing your story about your recent job search. Congrats on the new job! Take care and please do not let the recent trials in the job search take away your joy! Hello, Congrats on your new job. Love all your WIPS! I couldn’t help but notice that you weren’t as joyful and cheerful on this video as you’ve been in all your past videos. Trust me when I say, sometimes we go through times in our lives that are rough and rocky. I hope that things will get better and so I’ll look forward to your next Flosstube and pray that you’re back to that bright light that drew me to become a fan of yours. By the way, my daughter is now 33 years old and reading books to her from her birth was something I always enjoyed and she loved. I truly believe that her love of reading from the age of five and throughout the years has only grown stronger all because I shared my love of reading to her early on. Please know that you sharing your books at the end of your videos is a wonderful thing! Smile

I am so glad I found you! Your stitching is lovely and your Owl!!!! Your owl is stunning! When I learned to stitch about 40 years ago, linen wasn’t even an option. I stitched on Aida, Lugana, & Jobelin. It is nice we have so many choices today so I say stitch on what you love! I am sorry about your experiences searching for a job. I know that was difficult. Our world has had more changes this year than just a pandemic unfortunately. And some of them are shocking to us. I was a fundraiser for a college prior to retirement. I cannot imagine having to ask alumni, parents & donors for a gift during this time. I am very thankful to be out of that environment. For those of you still in it, though, you have been and will be facing challenges you never thought of before. This is where your youthful resilience will kick in! (Sorry, I didn’t mean to climb on a soapbox.) I have faith, though, you will get us all through it. P.S. I love the book talk! I have one grandchild, he is 13 mos. & we have already started a collection for him. His Mom & Dad read to him every day.

Hello fellow librarian. Well, I have just retired after over 30 years of working at a university, and am now librarian emeritus. But I had a long career as a Cataloger of Slavic materials, which is a dying occupation. The trend now is to outsource. Most librarians have to have a strong systems background. Wishing you a wonderful career and happy years in the profession. If you ever decided to apply to a university library remember the LC classification system is used and not Dewey.

Enjoyed the visit ! Glad you found a job ! They are hard to come by now especially if it’s a interior job ! On the Owl wip I was wondering if the threads are numbered and separated when you get them ? I really dislike it when they are clumped together and you must figure it out . Hi Kim, the owl kit came with separated threads but I am not sure if they were numbered. I believe they came pulled through a paper hole sorter/ thread keep ...if that makes sense. It was very easy to tell the colors a part as they were in order by the key. I bobbinated mine, but remember thinking that I could have just numbered the thread keep and used it that way. I've had my fill of clumped up threads in kits that I won't buy a large kit that doesn't come sorted! 😌

Your owl is looking great! I agree on the job thing. I remember once, (years ago), I applied for a job and six months later I got an email letting me know I wasn't going to be considered (not even for an interview). I had honestly forgotten I had even applied. :-/ My teenage son is currently trying to get a part time job, and same thing ... they don't get back with him, or give him any feedback. Anyway, glad you did get a position. So if your school is starting out doing virtual learning, what will your job look like? Was your position one where the classes would normally come to you for a 30 (or more) minute time slot each week to hear a story and check out books? Are you starting to see an increase in teachers requesting your assistance in finding resources. This is, in part, what ultimately pushed me out of school librarianship. Reading stories to the kids is great, but I wanted to be more of an assistant to the teachers to help them find teaching resources, and even assist in teaching, when appropriate (like to introduce Information Literacy and/or computer skills), but after 17+ years of banging my head against the wall because the teachers couldn't be bothered to collaborate with me, I gave up. I give kudos to anyone working in the education industry right now ... you all have a monumental task ahead of you. My husband is a band director, and as of right now, they are telling him, he can't have the students play their horns unless they are outside. We live in MI ... that might work for September and part of October, but by the middle to end of October it will be too cold and nasty outside for that. Have a great week! I love the book talks. I don't get to read too much children's lit these days, so it's fun to see different stuff! ~Katrina

Hi Katrina, These are great questions! I'm not quite sure what my job will look like virtually, I am imagining a lot of me recording read alouds and attending zoom meetings. In my old school, I was on a fixed schedule like you described and experienced the same frustrations. I wanted to pursue other areas of librarianship, so I left my position and earned my MLIS. Unfortunately, Covid made it so a lot of my public library interviews were put on hold indefinitely and I decided to return to the school system, hence all the interviews. I am hoping this new school and administration will have a fresh perspective on the library and its potential. 🤞 It's definitely going to be a very different year and I'm sure I'll share small updates in future videos. I hope your husband is able to stay safe while teaching. Playing horn outside in Michigan winter???😬 Please let me know how that goes! Hoping your son is able to find a job soon! It's such a challenging time for job searching and I sympathize! 😣

Hi, thank you for letting me know. It seems like some are having a volume problem. 😟 I'll be adjusting the volume manually during editing for the next video and see if that resolves the issue.

I like your videos. But may I suggest you invest in a microphone. I have a problem hearing you.

Hi there, thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. I'm sorry there have been volume problems. I do have mic attached to my phone, but I think I may have to manually adjust the volume to be higher when editing. I did play the video on multiple devices with no audio issues, but definitely want to fix this for everyone! 😣 I hope to have the issue resolved in my next flosstube. Thanks! ☺️

I think I might possibly enjoy your video if I could actually hear what you were saying...🤔

Hi Connie, sorry to learn about sound issues. I adjusted the mic gain in order to pick up less white noise and therefore speaker volume may need to be increased. I've asked others if they had audio issues, but haven't learned of any. I'll keep your comment in mind for when recording again.
