I totally feel that fear of disappointing people because I’m not what they think Black people are supposed to be. When you feel like that, try to make the conscious decision to be yourself, act like yourself. Make casual conversation with them, don’t try to “act white” or “act black”. Let them keep their stereotypes, and walk away either enlightened or confused. But don’t let yourself try to prove yourself to them.

I feel that way about interacting with anyone for the first time. Even they're also Black. I never think about it in the moment. I just do my thing, but then I see/hear something like this and it makes me reflect on my own experiences. Like "yep, definitely shattered his/her expectations right away." 😅

I get what you’re saying but I think there are people who are “too picky”. People want the stereotypical man, who does x, y, and z, and wonder why they’re single.
