They have certainly gotten better since they started. I wasn’t a fan of their products early on, they weren’t really anything special. They have put out a lot smoother reels since then and it’s definitely hit my list of To-Buy reels. I’ll probably pair 1000 w/ power handle with an Old18 buoyancy light rod and have it as a gift for a family member. Love how loud the drag is. May go with the new Tatula LT MQ as a substitute.

How does it compare to the Stradic FL? Other than the 2 pc bail and handle.

It's honestly not far off. But you can definitely tell the stradic and ffp apart blind folded. Stradic is definitely more refined in all aspects ( feel and look ) But how I look at it is Shimano , daiwa and so on all had to start somewhere as well and I'm sure they weren't solid right out of the gate. ffp will get to that level. They have some good guys there. I did forget to mention one other small con ( con for my personal preference ) when you open the bail it don't have that clickly feel/sound like other brands have ( daiwa , Shimano and Penn ) that for me that is a indicator of the bail being " locked " in place and ready to cast. ( Without having to look at the reel ) Unfortunately the ffp don't have that and because it don't have that click / lock feature my bail closed on me a few times during a cast. Definitely need a little more time with it to see if I can work that out. I'll be doing a 6 month review of it.
