Floor is very special. People here already wrote, that she is classically trained and that she has been singing for 25 years now, always training and learning, always developing her voice, There are diverse things, you can listen to. - Her work in Nightwish, starting with "Ghost Love Score". A Guy named "Gabriel" will lead you on that path from there. - The Dutch TV-show "Beste Zangers" from 2019. She has done amazing things there. Very diverse. - Her YT-channel, with great covers and even her Master Class, about singing. - Her former Bands, "After Forever" and "ReVamp" - A ton of co-ops, with bands and artistst. (Ayreon, SoilWork, Evergrey, Epica, ...) - Even a smartphone-video, from a karaoke bar in Thailand, with her singing a song from Disney's Pocahontas, that will blow your mind.

Our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen is the current singer of the Symphonic metal band Nightwish. She is widely considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time, yet undiscovered by a broad audience. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some more background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of this. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. Later she did a year Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. Besides managing Revamp and doing vocal coaching at the same time and as Floor is a perfectionist, she had eventually pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating in the iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in open air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor Jansen was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band in 2013 as the relationship with Annette and the band was strained even before she became ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so Revamp disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZread. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe, watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'. And to see her in full opera mode watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZread in the last year and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. Also her 'Fan Friday' videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left there. Floorgasm alert! Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band 'Sabaton'); daughter Freja (just turned 4 years last march); a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.

She's also studies musical theathre and is a vocal coach also. She describes herself as a vocal nerd. In total she studied 6 years of singing.

Something to consider. Floor had only had her gall bladder removed a few weeks before this and couldn't travel. She recorded this at home in Sweden and band and other guests in Holland. Worth visiting her KZread channel as some wonderful covers and chats and vocal coaching. Oh and yes she's tall. Over 6ft. So many reactors use her as an example of correct vocal technique and placement.

In this clip, Floor was recovering from an operation. That is why she recorded the song from home. Amazing. If you want to hear her extremes search for Floor Jansen Disdain Live (growling and distortion), Floor Jansen o babino caro TV show (full on opera) and for a spectacle Floor Jansen Henk Poort Beste Zangers 2019. The best thing about her is that she can sing opera and growl in the same line as you can hear in Disdain and everything in between and all done perfectly and healthy. She is classically trained at the conservatorium in the Netherlands, but she also took the Rock Academy and did some years of musical theatre training. She also plays the flute and (I think) guitar. It is compulsory that you need to do three instruments at the conservatorium (voice being also an instrument). Her main job is to be the lead singer of the symphonic metal band Nightwish, but she is also working on a solo career, especially in the Netherlands and Germany.

This is one of the most vocally restrained performances I have heard from the Goddess.

Floor for vocal coaches is the gift that keeps on giving. I would put her in the same league as Dimash. All of the covers she did for the Dutch TV show Best Zangers from an Aria to Lady Gaga are all superb, her live performances with her first 2 bands After Forever & ReVamp are full of stunning vocal techniques and finally all of the live performances with Nigthwish are also stellar.

What a good comment. I learned a lot, thank you. Floor can sing anything. She is a Dutch Singer (me too) of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. Listen to three pieces of their music with Floor. The poet and the pendulum, written by the keyboard player Thuomas to overcome his deep depression after that the first female Singer was fired. A very personal piece and Floor made it to a jewel. Then listen to the masterpiece ghost lovestory. And then a complete other side of the band in which Floor is crawling (the low crawls!). There is a lot more, you'l see. It Will be a journey with the queen of metal (and pop and rock and etc) Dear lady stay healthy.

I'd recommend anything from her band's performance at Wacken 2013, particularly Ghost Love Score, Everdream, Storytime, Romanticide, and Nemo. I'd also highly recommend Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort, Dangerous Game, also with Henk Poort, and from the show Beste Zangers, I suggest Winner, Mama, and I Don't Know a Thing About Love. There's even more than that. Floor is phenomenal as you have discovered! Looking forward to more.

Floor is incredibly diverse. - symphonic metal is her primary wheelhouse, but she can sing heavy growls, pop, opera, rock. She also sings in a ton of different languages. Her live stage presence is also incredible. I Keep bringing this up, but one of my musical bucket lists is to have her and Dimash do a collaboration together. Yeah, she is that good. My only fear is if they were both on the stage at the same time, it would melt from all the energy. ;-)

She has her own YT with many covers done during covid while they could not tour, as well as all 2019 performances on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers were awesome! Floor Jansen has the best technique and the most versatility out of any female metal vocalist. This woman exudes metal. She is not only the best female vocalist in the genre, but one of the best voices in metal as well.

I have heard a lot of her but just scratched the surface. She sings a cover of Heart song Alone. It's awesome. Beste Zangers has a lot of her. Her Night wish band is just awesome. Too much to put on here. Go down the Floor Jansen rabbit hole. It's impressive. Arguably the best vocalist ever

Fun fact to this performance. She had to record this performance at home in Sweden, because she had a surgery just a couple of days before. That makes it even more surreal. I would as well recommend Nightwish‘s „Ghost Love Score“ as a next step into her versatile discography. There are 2 live versions that should be used for reactions. One is at Wacken 2013, the other one is from Buenos Aires 2015. Wacken is in front of a crowd of 82.000 people only a couple of months after she joined Nightwish. It is one of the most impressive Live Shows I have ever seen. PS: Nightwish‘s genre is Symphonic Metall, but don‘t be afraid because of it. It is nothing less than beautiful and a 10 Minute long experience of artistry.

I would recommend the holy trio: 2013 Waken "Ghost Love Score" 2015 Wembley "Poet and the Pendulum" 2015 Tampere "Greatest Show on Earth" coupled with the 2015 Wembley version of the same song. In the Wembley version you will want to add the very ending where Richard Dawkings comes on stage to recite the last couple of verses.

what you have seen and heard here is one facet of a diamond and, well, if you follow the fans down the rabbit hole, imagine what it will be like to perceive the whole diamond in its full glory, and then imagine there are more gemstones, all beautifully crafted together and forged over time into a wonderful piece of jewelry called: Nightwish 😃

​@@annsouren He did not write 3 octaves correctly, Floor said many years ago in the interview that she started with 3 octaves and she said in the interview that she now has 4 octaves, but does not matter for her, this interview was many years ago, after this she did a lot of new things with her vocals in songs, I'm sure that now more than 4 octaves, I think she has 5-6 octaves now.

By the amount of stoppage in this video its quite clear that this was alot to process for someone who just climed atop of the iceberg of Floor Jansen. I think the reactor will be quite shocked to hear yours is an empty hope after this. And thats before discovering the beauty of Toumass compositions. I hope this channels is quick to get to more because that's when the nightwish army sets up camp and gets the subs uo abiut a 100k over night. I guess Ghost love score at wacken would be perfect as this vocal coach actually seems to have some real experience and should be able to appreciate what a monumental performance that is. Floor had gall bladder surgery about two weeks before this video was recorded. She was slated to join the rest of the cast on location in Ibiza, but instead she remoted in and performed this. To give a better picture of her versatility, review her performances on "Beste Zangers" in 2019. She's also recorded covers of "Let It Go" from Frozen, "Alone" by Heart, and "Into The Unknown" from Frozen 2. Beyond that, I'll echo other commenters and point you to her work with Nightwish...her "day" job.

But they didn't play only metal, some songs sounds like a Folk song, other songs a little bit irish or scottish with bagpipes and other wind instruments like floots, than they sounds really big with orchester and chor (what are recorded bevore with the London symphonics and/or the London kids (?) chor) and than they have really hard metal songs. Every song is different and the fans love that! You don't must be a "metal chick" to hear Nightwish because they have so many different sounded songs, start your Nightwish journey with the song "Ghost love score" or "Nemo" from the Wacken 2013 conzert, i'm 100% sure you really will like that songs! I hope you do some Nightwish reactions, many people, me too, would like that because you are a good reactor! But please don't stop every 10 seconds, that's tooo much. Hello! I see that you have got information on Floor’s singing abilities. I will add that although she is a very accomplished vocalist it’s never about her, it’s always about the song. That and the fact that she is a very humble person, is what made me fall in love with her. She has been known to sing every single genre that exists except rap. I was going to give you the entire history of her singing career but everyone else here beat me to it.

you met Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants. she sang many beautiful covers and she not only sang but improved the song itself, some suggestions could be "oblivion", "let it go", "adagio" and others, but the list would be too long. same thing for the songs she sang on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers, where she sang many other songs incredibly well, such as "shallow", "the phantom of the opera", "vilja lied" and many others. obviously it is impossible not to name the symphonic-metal band Nightwish, where she is the lead singer, but the list of songs she sang with them would be practically endless and the best choice is to start with the song "ghost love score" in the incredible performance of the 2013 concert in Wacken.

Hi Ann! Thank you for reviewing Floor. I hope this review and the many comments of her fans that you see below will encourage you to enjoy more of her work! I really liked your breakdown, unfortunately however I cannot agree that the particular SONG she is singing here is a very good song, or that it showcases her abilities to anywhere near what she is actually capable of. First, as I'm sure other commenters have mentioned, Floor was coming off abdominal surgery a few weeks before so her maximum performance was compromised to some extent. Second, for the same medical reasons she had to record the song from home and broadcast it in to Beste Zangers, rather than going there in person. However the B.Z. sound stage is professionally managed and Floors home is not. For example she had to re-master and upload a second version of her solo cover of "Let It Go" from "Frozen" because her home studio didn't do the audio properly. Third, I know some Europeans think "Euphoria" is a good song, but I can't agree. I believe they are romantically attached to the song as part of the Eurovision Song Contest, but as a stand-alone demonstration of Floor's abilities no one (particularly no reputable vocal coach) would put "Euphoria" in the same class as Lara Fabian's "Adagio" if you wanted to test a classically-trained singers professional abilities. With regard to the references you may have seen in the other comments to "Gabriel Bardac", I have checked all comments as of my writing this and yes, it seems he has not responded yet. He is a Nightwish savant and usually writes in within 6 to 12 hours of a reviewer posting a Nightwish video to recommend what other songs to listen to and provides the links for them. This saves other commenters having to re-do his writing. I can only suggest to check out Floor with "Nightwish": Nightwish is a band from Finland. Tuomas is the keyboarder, Songwriter, composer. Marco is (was - he resigned just recently) playing the bass and doing also the vocals. He is very versatile and an awesome singer as well. You might watch „The Islander“ from Tampere to experience this. Emppu is playing the guitar. He can shred it but he always does exactly that much, that is required by the song. Kai (also Wintersun) is now at the drums and replaced the original drummer Jukka (whom you saw here) who had stop playing the drums due to health issues. But he still is with the band. Julka was a perfect drummer and showman, Kai is a perfect drummer and a machine and beast at the drums. Then there is Troy, a multi instrumentalist from England who in older performances supported the band at some tracks but became luckily a full member of the band after this tour. He‘s a great singer as well. Last but not least there is Floor, the Dutch singer. She is the bands third singer after Tarja (operatic) and Annett from Sweden (pop/rock). She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls The perfect start would be "Ghost Love Schore" from Wacken 2013. Wacken is THE metal festival worldwide. Nightwish were one of the headliners in 2013. It is in the north of Germany in a rural area. Therefore the bullhead with flames is the Wacken symbol. There are more than 80.000 metalheads having a big party each year. Here are some suggestions other Nightwish stops: -> There are only great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones. -> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-) -> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.) -> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional) -> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, … -> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level -> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is one of the two most epic songs. The title is not about the gig, but about the topic of the song: The evolution of mankind. -> "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley) is my personal absolute masterpiece of Nightwish. Be sure to know the background of this song ahead (short version see below *) --> "I want my tears back" from Buenos Aires is pure positive power with a dancing Floor and a fantastic (as always) Troy. ***** From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. It‘s a good idea to hear the album in the given order, but nevertheless here are some of my options to some of the songs. -->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself --> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it. --> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending. -> „Pan“ is just an amazing roller coaster ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to power metal like Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“. -> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor. A sad and important story and at the same time for me one of their musically most beautiful songs. --> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish. -> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice. --> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course. The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world. ***** If you'd like to Explore Floor on her own: Beste Zangers The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary. ***** * Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“ Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time. As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears. One detail showing the ingenuity of Tuoams: Exactly three minutes after the words "Now I have only three minutes and counting" he is "killed" by the pendulum. And then everything becomes dark and there is just this fading heartbeat of the dying poet. Great reaction, I would love to do another great suggestion for reacting to... Og3ne, pronounced O-gene, where the O stands for the blood group of their mother (they're sisters). And the -gene ofcourse stands for the genes they share. Their harmonies are superb 👌. Check out a live performance of them when they sing Clown or one of their home isolation videos, for instance Bohemian Rhapsody. Her "home style" is symphonic metal (she's the lead singer of Nightwish, the world's biggest symphonic metal band), but she can basically do whatever you want her to do (she has joked that she hasn't tried French rap and black metal). Recently she has branched out into softer territories after she took part in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers, where singers gather to sing each others' songs in their own style and where she sang operetta, Dutch schlager/chanson, salsa, country, a Phantom of the Opera duet, and rock ballads. @@annsouren I wouldn't put it past her, yes. :) Black metal would be more awesome, though, because I really want to hear her do it and because it requires an entirely new set of techniques to master so you don't hurt yourself. She already does death metal growls now and then.

And then to think this performance was just a couple of weeks after she was in hospital with pancreatitis and had her gall bladder removed. She was not able to travel, that's why she made an (internet co-opted) recording from her shed at home and not in the studio. A lot of people already mentioned Ghost Love Score, the song that lured me into a reaction-vid hobby during these covid times. You will then surely enjoy her version of The Shallow, a Lady Gaga cover, where she displays so many subtile techniques. Apart from Nightwish she appears on some songs from the scifi opera Ayreon, where Arjen Anthony Lucassen, the composer/director, an old and close friend of Floor, has her to sing the full force clear parts. Just search Floor and Ayreon or Floor and Star One.

Please go down the Floor/Nightwish rabbit hole. She is the best female vocalist on the planet. Watch any of Nightwish 2013 Wacken live songs, (Ghost Love Score, Storytime, Everdream) Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley, and of course all of her Beste Zangers performances. This woman is a force of nature.

Recently Floor is exploring different singing styles, like in this one, each of her Beste Zangers 2019 and her YT channel covers are amazing and worth to be checked.
